A lot of criticism being made about a school in Paisley inviting in a drag queen called Flow Job to read a story to P1s as part of LGBT month.
This has been heavily politicised as she was introduced by Mhairi Black but I'm struggling to see the issue here. Yes, the individual posts some risque stuff on twitter, but I'd ask why a P1 was allowed on twitter in the first place. These kids will have no idea. As far as they're concerned this is a man called Flo who dresses a bit differently. I'll be these kids are at the panto every year!
Am I missing the issue?
Same applies to the outcry when a local panto star turned out to be a Fake Taxi driver. Does it matter?

Suffered through men in drag doing Panto every Christmas in Primary school so see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Suspect the routine was designed to be age appropriate too

The fact that no pupils have complained is probably proof of the pudding. The UK media is out to undermine the SNP at every opportunity, and since there are no ‘Loonie Lefties’ in sight just now what better than to hunt out ‘Nutty Nats.’
I have been positive towards Mhairi Black ever since she kicked that weasel Douglas Alexander out of Scottish political life. Alexander was the guru who advised Gordon Brown not to go for an early election (which he would have won) but to wait for a bigger majority. He later came back to Scotland mastermind the Holyrood elections which saw the Labour Party decimated. The fact Mhairi is a Partick Thistle supporter is a good sign as well. I see signs of a young Margo McDonald in her.
However her defence of the drag queen in a Paisley school has been very weak and an indication of her immaturity. A pantomime is something parents voluntarily take their children to, not something which is prescribed by a school. And a pantomime dame like Stanley Baxter bears no resemblance to Lily Savage no matter they are both masters of their art. I can accept that the drag queen modified the act for a younger audience, but if Mhairi Black believes that only ‘homophobes’ see a problem with this then that apparently includes John Swinney. ‘Homophobia’ has become like ‘anti-semitism’- a catch all slur for anyone who disagrees with ‘my’ position.
The Headmistress of the Scottish school claimed that Section 28 denied teachers the right to even talk about LGBT matters within school. This as far as I remember never applied in Scottish schools so we have an ignorant headmistress, one being lauded as ‘brave’ and ‘innovative.’ That is not much use if she is ignorant. She is in the wrong job.
Mhairi Black would be better turning her attentions to the Army coming into secondary school in order to recruit; and I do not think they are recruiting for Sandhurst. Canon fodder is more their remit. And some Scottish schools now boast about having their own ‘community policeman.’ Very progressive but so far as I know neither Fettes or Merchiston Casstle have yet seen the need for such a support worker.
So here’s my question to Mhairi Black. Are you a Socialist? A Nationalist? Or a Gay Rights activist? You can be all three I hope, but get your priorities right.

Sammer clause 28 was law in Scotland as well.
It was called section 2a up here.
Repealing it was one of the first pieces of legislation to go through Holyrood.
Here is a link to the debate where it was repealed. I'll give you one guess which party opposed the repeal.

In that case the ignorance is mine and not the Headteacher’s, although I cannot agree with her claim that it was forbidden for LGBT issues to be mentioned by teachers in the classroom. I can’t remember any Scottish teachers being aware of the legislation at the time although presumably Guidance staff were given advice in relation to it. Section 28 was a vindictive piece of legislation that will not be mourned by many save the hanging and flogging wing of the Conservative Party it was designed to appease.
The choice of guest speakers in schools will always have the capacity to provoke controversy and maybe that’s not a bad thing. However as I noted earlier there never seems to be any outrage when the British Army comes in to promote militarism, when the Rotary Club come to promote capitalism or the local minister comes in to promote Christianity. Nor, I am happy to say, does there seem to have been any backlash against GG Riva visiting schools to promote DAFC!
