 Sportwashing dangers

Not sure if anyone follows F1 but Saudis actions in Yemen have been brought to the headlines after Yemen rebels attacked an Oil plant near the race course.

On the one hand it was good that instead of the Saudis giving a false impression, their actions have been brought into focus…

but is there a danger that a sporting event in these sort of locations out backed by these regimes are just putting a big target on the event itself, especially given the news coverage they’d get if something happened?
