 Best chippy

Maybe should be on the food forum but I think this needs a wider audience. Since moving back I've tried out the Abbey Fry (hit and miss), Gennaro's (decent) and Marinis (was great but recently crap).

Hope it's decent as Dunfermline is utterly rank for chippies.

Going back in history to the '60s and '70s, the fish and chip shop next to the old bus station used to make the best post-match fish suppers in the universe. Forgotten its name, but I think it was Italian.

Don't know if it's the oil they use these days or whether it is that they don't wrap them in newspapers anymore or simply it is that your tastebuds change as you get older, but fish suppers don't have the appeal they used to.

Here in Oz, the fish is very different - they call it flake, but is generally believed to be shark.

Must have been very unlucky as when I tried the Dalgety Fish Bar the better on the fish was mushy and the chips were firm. Willing to give them another go though. Used to like the Brig but they seem to be quite expensive and not as good quality. Marini's on Aberdour Road is pretty good and they do good grilled burgers of that's your thing. Armando's is good too of you like old school stuff. The one in Kincardine was always good for a sit in but I think they had a fire?

The Golden Chip in Pilmuir St. was always my fave, probably because I lived nearby and it was therefore conveniently located... I even mind when it was the Golden Bird...
I returned to that chippy after an absence of 25 years and, while the layout was a bit different, the chips tasted EXACTLY THE SAME... cracking chippy...

The Golden Bird was opposite the Auld Toll at Hospital Hill.

The Golden Chip has been that as long as I can remember. It was originally smaller but extended in the mid to late 80's into what was once a wool shop (Wyse's)?

Was there not a Golden Chip at the crossroads in Rosyth at one time as well?

Jeezo. Talk about starting a debate!

Going to do Gennaro's next time. Dunno what's happened at the Aberdour Road Marinis. Used to be spot on but seems to have changed in past few months. Not sure if they're still run by the same people despite the name staying the same. The fish seemed to be of a cheaper type imo. In fairness, I didn't specify the TYPE of fish. I reckon it was coley or something.

Someone mentioned Romanos. Go there if I'm after a pudding supper. Black pudding in particular is awesome.

Special Fish supper from Sauros still my favourite chippie meal ever though. 90's/early noughties, was in there for one every Fri evening

dont think its a bitterness, from a large amount of experience people want an edinburgh lifestyle without paying edinburgh prices for property so work and socialize the other side of the bridge and evening meals more likely to be from waitrose/M&S rather than a chippy whilst others have moved or have been moved there from other areas of the town and already have existing relationships with already open establishments

Not sure what relevance your point has to my quote given the bitterness is from folk who dont live in Duloch and you reference those that do.

My concern for the place is the general disdain in the town for Duloch means anything trying to establish itself there that isn't a "brand " is going to struggle.

I live in Duloch having moved over from Edinburgh. I go wherever is nearest and don't expect an "Edinburgh lifestyle" whilst living in suburbia. So many people with a "chip" on their shoulder. Duloch isn't posh and folk there don't think they're posh. If they do then they're no doubt a bit Hyacinth Bucket.

Might give the Hook and Catch a go. Must be better than the establishments the common-folk from outside Duloch frequent 😂

You drive your own Bentley? Why not have your man servant do it for you? I sent mine on foot to the Curry Pot last night. Whilst I adore their food I do not wish to stand with the serfs from Abbeyview. I've heard some of them live in "terraced" houses. So uncouth.

My only complaint about Duloch is the lack of an organic wholefoods supermarket. I have a man who delivers but I do enjoy perusing the shelves for foie gras and kobe beef. I shall lobby that no good Lib Dem councillor to demand a Waitrose at the very least.

Pfft... you peasants know nothing of luxury... I choppered up to Andorra yesterday for a spot of late season skiing...
Apres ski, as I exfoliated quietly in my voluminous bath of freshly imported yak milk, I was seized by the desire to consume a gargantuan feast consisting of a black pudding supper, two pickled eggs, a crate of McEwans Export and ten Regal Ordinary...

Swiftly summoning my manservant Pedro to my glistening bathroom, I tried manfully to explain my predicament...

"Pedro! El Chip D'Or in el toon a Calle Pilmuir! Necessita una supper de pudding negra, dos huevos de Pickled, cerveza del Exporto McEwans y diez tabacos de Regal Ordinario! Take the Lear Jet!"

Hastening off, he ably manouvred the Lear onto the QAHS playing fields and sped to El Chip D'Or on the antique Harley Davidson...

He managed to return with my epic feast before the milk had even begun to curdle...

The only problem was that forgot to ask for extra salt, a problem I swiftly solved by draining the Med and forcing it through my personal desalination plant etc etc blah blah blah....

You drive your own Bentley? Why not have your man servant do it for you?

Bentley's are for the gentleman who enjoys driving and have 'adequate' power to make it enjoyable.

One engages staff to drive the Rolls when one wishes to be wafted along to ones destination.......

Oh, and back on topic, the best chippy I've been to recently is my local in Falkirk.....Colorado's which is just up the hill from it's better known flash competition Benny T's.

For those that go for chips after an away game at Falkirk try taking a left at the roundabout and visit my American friend for a change.....some real American options like a Philly cheesesteak being added to his menu.

Got the Hake supper earlier in the week. Wife got white pudding. Both were fantastic. Cheesecake was a bit meh by comparison.
