 Is this another scam?
Topic Originator: GG Riva

For the 3rd time in about 10 days, when I've been on my PC on dotnet (I know, I know) my browsing has been interrupted by a message claiming to be from Microsoft, informing me my computer has been infected with 3 different viruses and that I must download a free cleaner with 240 secs as my PC is 32% infected. The only way to get rid of this screen is to shut down and start again.

I'm not aware of my PC underperforming, but I have noticed a "not secure" message appearing near The top of the screen when I'm on this site. I also have Bullguard protection, which came highly recommended.

Any help or advice ( other than "spend less time on dotnet") would be much appreciated. 😃

GG Riva, .net has appeared as a ‘not secure’ site for months & months on my laptop. It’s always made me a bit apprehensive tbh, I’m not technically minded so I’ve no clue what it means!

I always thought it meant it was a wee bit unhinged.

I wouldn't trust that so-called microsoft message GGRiva. If your computer is performing alright I'd say carry on and ignore it. I sometimes have to shut down when I get a dodgy popup that overrides all my options for closing the site. I just press the power button and hold it down for several seconds til my laptop shuts down, then I boot up again, no bother.

Why would it wait til you're 32% infected or got three viruses before it tells you. Treat all popups as potentially evil. I do.

Like I say, if your computer is working OK - that seems to be evidence that the message is a lie.

Cheers, onandup. I'd kind of thought the same. So much for Widdy's techy pals, eh?

GEW35, I looked into the security. DAFC.net has an SSL certificate (it needs renewed every 3 months and sometimes needs to be done manually)

hopefully when you come onto this particalar thread that you now see the GREEN padlock and site is secure

the issue was that GG Riva was using an unsecure image ! and so I modified his signature to use https instead of http

:o)
