A few times lately when I`ve switched on my PC it has attempted to install a new version of Microsoft Edge even though I haven`t prompted it. I`ve gone along with it so far until I check my files (Photos, Documents, Downloads etc.) and they seem to have disappeared. At this point I stop the download and restart the PC and it reverts back to what it was before and my files reappear.
Has anyone done the full installation and, if so, were your files restored? I`ve backed up all my files on a memory stick just in case but I`m concerned that at some point I may be forced to complete installation.

Why are you using Microsoft Edge to start with?
Download Firefox.

The answer is in my username. I don`t have sufficient knowledge of alternatives.

I'm with Auld Par on this ,only stopped using internet explorer as BBC iPlayer stopped allowing you to use it, managed to move to Google chrome , although get messages to upgrade to Edge ,not sure of it ,so leave it alone

I just mentioned windows 11 was installed on laptop (see other thread)
I`ve used Firefox for years, occassionally chrome.
I prefer Firefox.
didn`t use Internet Explorer or don`t plan on using Edge.
don`t have any issues with Edge trying to force me to use it. not sure if it`s to do with setting Firefox as default browser,

Edge uses the same core as Chrome now. It's fine but most people still use Chrome.
I'd be surprised about things like Amazon not working on a modern browser.

I just googled `Firefox` and this came up - `You`re already browsing in Microsoft Edge. Keep using to get world class performance with more privacy, more productivity, and more value`
Sounds a bit desperate!

They'll do the same when you first use it as it'll be desperate to remain the default browser. Our work said to me I didn't need Chrome as "Edge is the same". The first thing I did was out Chrome on.

And if you're that bothered about privacy then use Tor.

I use Edge at work for our daily news. It was an automatic update and it seems fine so far.
