When you hear the remuneration commanded by those who run our biggest companies and commercial organisations you can be excused for thinking these individuals must possess superhuman powers compared to us lesser mortals but evidence given to the Post Office inquiry today would suggest otherwise.

`Adam Crozier and Alan Cook, who both held senior roles while the events of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal unfolded, have both claimed to the inquiry that they were not fully aware of the prosecutorial function of the business. Crozier claimed he did not realise it was the Royal Mail legal team that was enacting prosecutions on behalf of the Post Office. Cook said it was only near the end of his tenure he realised that he was the managing director of an organisation that could prosecute people. In his evidence, Crozier described Cook’s statement on that as “surprising”. A counsel acting for sub-postmasters described part of Cook’s written testimony as a “straight out lie”.`

As well as being CEO of Royal Mail from 2003 to 2010 Crozier has also been CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, the FA and ITV plc. He is currently chairman of Whitbread and the BT group.

Quite amazing to hear someone who would have previously justified his massive salaries as being very well deserved, to be reduced today to admitting not to understand much about accountancy.

Was funny to hear him bang on about risk and audit in the face of the Post Office being a complete mess. He literally had one job.....

Clearly he`s well connected and that`s what has seen him through.

He admitted he wasn`t a legal expert either. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

I think he`ll need to improve somewhat to hit the heady heights of "a little knowledge".

Braverman is supposed to be a legal expert as well, after revealing she only did conveyancing!
