I got back a wee while ago from the cinema, where I and a couple of pals went to watch the new movie Civil War. There`s a lot to unpack here, so I won`t review it yet, but I will say it is an immensely affecting movie. I will likely be pondering the issues in this film for some time to come.
Has anyone else seen it yet? I`d like to know what your thoughts are.

Is it about the American civil war or a more recent one?
…there’s about ten civil wars going on in Africa alone right now!

It is a dystopian take on what would happen if America descended into a second Civil War. The film is vague about the causes and politics of the new Civil War, but it effectively captures the sense of not knowing precisely who your enemy is. Some of the battle scenes are pretty brutal.
These days, it is not too hard to imagine that Trump`s winning or losing could prove a catalyst for such an event. You have to hope that wise heads prevail.

It was an interesting film but some of the scenes were quite chilling and hard to watch, notably the random killing of people based on where they were from and the actual storming of the White House. I wondered if there was any attempt to delay its release in an election year but I wasn`t aware of any. America is a strange mix of conservatism and liberalism.

It is the sort of thing you could imagine happening. A lot of people these days are so entrenched in their views that they can`t accept any other way of looking at anything. Everything is black or white, there is no middle ground. With the rise of the internet and social media it`s created worldwide echo chambers of people taking sides. Look on twitter, you will see people that are pro or anti Trump, Team Windsor for Kate (RIP) and William or Sussex Squad for Meghan and Harry, Pro Palestine or Israel, there`s no finding a middle ground. People`s minds are closed
It`s a very unhealthy situation and no good will come of it
