Pars pull out of race to sign Crawford:
Author: Neil Farrell Date: Monday, 3rd Jan 2005Jim Leishman has this morning confirmed that the Pars have dropped out of the hunt for former Par and current Pilgrims player Stevie Crawford. This now leaves it a two horse race between Dundee United and Hearts as favourites to sign the current Scotland international striker.
The Pars have been in negotiation with the Dunfermline-born 30 year old Plymouth striker for several weeks now, but with other clubs interested as well, the bargaining position has increased for Crawford and especially his agent Bill McMurdo. Although he has scored 7 goals in 20 games for Plymouth Jim Leishman told the official site that the club did not want to exceed the budget given to Davie Hay and jeopardise the long-term objective for the club.
The money that would have been spent on gaining Crawford to the squad will now be made available for Davie Hay to strengthen the playing staff during the January transfer window. Two trialists are due this week for Davie Hay to take a look at.
Meanwhile it was today revealed by the BBC (no, not a "Chick Young exclusive") that Crawford will be plying his trade with Ian McCall`s Dundee United in a three and a half year deal for what will probably be £4,000 a week. Not a bad wage for playing in the First Division next season.
