Sad news indeed. Jim MacLean was a fine defender and club captain during the 60s when the Pars were a real force in Scottish and European football.

Buspasspar, Fri 20 Oct 12:06

Jim McLean had been a first team coach at Dundee for 18 months, with the expectation that he would take over the reins when John Prentice departed. Instead, McLean walked across Sandeman street to take over from Jerry Kerr at Dundee United in 1971.

McLean took little time to exert his influence over the Tangerines, signing up promising youth talents like Ralph Milne, John Holt and Davie Dodds, cornerstones of his United sides for a decade. McLean consolidated United’s position within the top flight, and as McLean’s youth policy began to prove effective, players such as Maurice Malpas, Paul Sturrock and David Narey began to show their first team worth.

Some cracking players there .. Sad News .. RIP Jim

The Jim McLean who managed Dundee United, is not the same one who captained the Pars in the 60s, BPP.

Yes I don`t remember the Jim McLean who captained Dunfermline very clearly (obviously far too young to remember that) and had to do a double take because I thought Jim McLean, manager of Dundee Utd passed on at least a year ago.

Very sad news, before my time, but the piece on COWS with historian Duncan Simpson offers a fine summary of his playing career. It`s unbelievable to think now that we were a club regularly competing in the business end of European Competition. I wonder what a defence with him and his replacement Roy Barry would have been like?
R.I.P to Jim, a true Pars legend

Jim McLean the Pars centre half was nicknamed “Jungle Jim” if I mind right. He had been suffering from dementia for a few years - there was an article in the media relatively recently - good defender who missed out in the double league/cup loss 1964/65. RIP

Took me a while to find Duncan Simpson`s tribute, but it was well worth it.
