 Alex Neil Gone

Stoke City have sacked Alex Neil as manager following Saturday`s home defeat by Championship bottom club Sheffield Wednesday.

The 42-year-old Scot spent 16 months in charge in the Potteries after leaving fellow Championship side Sunderland to join Stoke in August 2022.

He led Stoke to 16th last season, a fall from the previous two campaigns, when they had each time finished 14th.

But they have struggled this term and currently sit 20th in the table.

Despite an expensive 18-man summer overhaul, the Potters have won just six of their 20 league matches.

Managers leave clubs, players leave clubs……..he obviously had an offer from Stoke that was too good to turn down. It’s not worked out the way he hoped that’s for sure. He has a pretty good record in management…..up till now.

Personally I think he should have stayed at Sunderland.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Da no 1 has a soft spot for Sunderland and therefore took Neil`s departure as a personal slight. 😔

Other than being made an offer he couldn`t refuse, there would be little logic in the move. Sunderland have far more potential than Stoke. Definitely a "bigger club." His move is reminiscent of Owen Coyle who left Burnley, where he was doing very well, to join Bolton only to be sacked and his career plummeted as Bolton`s fortunes.

I think this is the only spell he’s had that was a complete failure. He’s a decent manager and I’m sure he’ll bounce back. He’ll be regretting not staying at Sunderland but I’m sure he left because of issues with the board?

There will have been other reasons that he left ( other than cash) that we will never know…..or indeed Sunderland fans..Anyway I don’t think Sunderland have done too badly since he did leave, they are doing ok..

The “ greedy rat” will be back in a dugout soon enough….

Managers have got to leave when their stock is high.

The alternative is that they remain loyal, eventually lose a few games in a row, the fans call for their head, the board sack them and then they`re out of work.

Then they either can`t get another job due to the abundance of new blood or they have to step down the leagues to re-kindle their career.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,
He's gonna pay for everyone this season.

Jeez I was only kinda kidding. He did drop my 2nd team right in it after 7 months in charge, a few weeks into their first season back in the Championship, after getting them promoted.

However we ended up with Mowbray who did a more than decent job.

Ironic that he`s got the sack at the same time as Sunderland need a manager.....
