I know its done by all but the Partick keeper on sat took the absolute p... out the referee. The ref for his part ran around for about 10 minutes with his arm up in the air i can only assume showing of his Rolex watch to all.
5 additional minutes extra played when there was 5 subs and 2 stoppages for injury was a disgrace. Will only encourage more p... taking of these guys, most of whom have never even played the game.

The ref`s antics were laughable. He should have shown the goalie the yellow card the first time he delayed a goal-kick, not in added time after a few warnings. Even adding on the correct amount of time doesn`t fully compensate the other team because the real purpose of such time-wasting is to break down the momentum and rhythm of the attacking team.
I heard ex-England goalie, Paul Robinson, on the radio on Saturday saying that even when he played managers would encourage their keepers to go down `injured` when their team was under pressure so the ref would have to stop the game to let the physio on and, after treatment, the keeper was allowed to stay on the field because of their specialist position. Nowadays, because refs are more protective towards players in general, a defender just needs to stay down in his penalty box and the ref will immediately stop the game to allow treatment which relieves the pressure on the defence.

It rips my knitting when refs wait till stoppage time to book the keeper for time wasting. It’s incredibly weak refereeing, book them early on and it will curtail it significantly.

There is a straightforward solution.
Following one warning, award an indirect free kick to the team being disadvantaged , no less than 10 yards from the goal line, from a position of their choice.

Aye, that would certainly eradicate it, VEE. A far more effective deterrent than the odd yellow card. I mean, how many goalies have amassed enough yellows to incur a suspension?
Not your average Sunday League player.

Or football could do what is done in rugby union for a conversion attempt or a penalty kick, which have to be taken within 90 or 60 seconds respectively.
Perhaps a goal-kick in football would have to be taken within 30 seconds of its being awarded or the ball returned to the playing area - no time for the goalie to amble from one side of the goal area to the other and then doing some gardening and boot-cleaning. The penalty could be an indirect free kick from the "D", with the goalie getting a warning followed by yellow and red cards.
It would make the game much faster and more chaotic, with many more miskicks by goalies.
Chances of it happening? Zero!

Stanza .. I might have got this completely wrong but I am sure I read a while back that a goalie has 6 seconds from when he has the ball in his hands to get it back in play ?? .. I will have to try and find it as that does not seem like a lot of time

Here we go :-
According to Law 12 of the FIFA rulebook, a goalkeeper is allowed to hold onto the ball for up to 6 seconds. Once the goalkeeper has taken control of the ball with their hands, they must release it within 6 ( six) seconds.
If the goalkeeper holds onto the ball for longer than 6 seconds, the opposing team will be awarded an indirect free kick from the spot where the goalkeeper touched the ball with their hands.
However, this rule is often enforced leniently in practice, and goalkeepers are typically given some leeway if they are being pressed by opposing players or if the ball is in a difficult position.

Has never been enforced in the game and never will be. Same with awarding indirect free kicks as that comes down to individual refs interpretation of time wasting.
The thing that annoys me ids our fans moaning about other teams time wasting when we do exactly the same when winning close games 😂

That’s one of my favourite things to see on a pitch tbh. It’s shithousery perfection and there’s absolutely nothing anyone can do about it.

Making the goalie take it the same side as it went out would be a start - similar to a corner kick - as opposed to anywhere along the six yard line.
The general antics are good fun though if it's going your way. Allan McGregor was good at asking for a 'new' ball from the ball boys knowing fine well the original ball was being returned behind his back at the same time......plead ignorance at two balls on park and kill another 20 seconds :-)

The US football governing body, Major League Soccer (MLS) Board of Governors, announced new rules Friday for the 2024 season.
The Off-Field Treatment rule has been changed. If a player with a suspected injury remains on the ground for more than 15 seconds, the referee will stop play and wave the medical crew onto the field to evaluate the player. When safe, the player will be removed from the field and remain off the field for a minimum of two minutes for further assessment and treatment.
A timed substitution rule will be implemented which requires a substituted player to exit the field within 10 seconds. If the rule is broken, the incoming player has to wait for a 60-second holding period, before entering the match at the next stoppage.
Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions given in a match will also be announced by the referee to fans in the stadium and viewers at home, according to the new rules.
Match clocks, including the scoreboard, video boards and stadium clocks, will run until the completion of each half, including additional time at the end of the first or second half.
Opposing players who simultaneously incur head injuries requiring off-field treatment, who are subsequently cleared to return to play, will return to the match at the same time, following the Return To Play Equity rule.

The six second rule was enforced when it was first brought in. It got binned quite quickly though; most people would assume the law has been deleted from the statutes. Allowing the goalkeeper to play the ball anywhere on the six yard line was brought in to speed up the game ironically. It used to be that you had to take it from the side closest to where it went out, and if a shot went over the bar the keeper would often deliberately make a big thing about not knowing what side it was to be taken from, asking the ref, getting it wrong then fake apologising before moving it etc.
