Players getting sent off for fighting a team mate is a rare occurrence. Total red mist and stupidity. Glad it happened though.

Only other example I can think of was Craig Levein and Graeme Hogg many moons ago…

The rules of the game seem to have changed radically. What used to be a fair shoulder charge is now forceably pushing an opponent with both hands. I see three examples of that in the highlights, one of which led to Arbroath`s goal. Ewen Otoo was the victim of this several times. Maybe our guys aren`t physical enough and should be prepared to deal with it. Falling down doesn`t seem to be an option that the referee reacts to.

It was a second yellow that the Arbroath player got for fighting not a red. Although if he had grabbed an opposition player like that I`m sure it would have been a red.

Yes, Bird was sent off for a second caution and his sparring partner picked up a yellow in that incident - can`t ever remember seeing such up here.

Bird`s parents must have been having a laugh when the named him Jay !!!

I don`t think Bird is a very common surname. I remember a Lewis Bird from Oakley. He was a decent player - played in the same school team as another Oakley lad who was a phenomenal player - Terry Wilson, who played for the Pars, along with a host of other clubs.

Could Lewis be Jay`s dad?

Is that a genuine question? Why the **** would you think it likely a boy from Oakley fathered a child 400 miles away for the kid to only cross the border 6 months ago?

I used to work with a lass called `Bonnie Bird` in Edinburgh.

Genuinely. That was her own name as well, not a married name.

Gary T on here will confirm. We all worked together at GE.

Must be something about the surname Bird that makes their parents give them an associated first name. 😀

Have a lovely Christmas 🎄 everyone.

I just wondered if they were related, so keep yer knickers on, min! I knew Lewis and actually met him about 10 years ago after a 30 year gap and only knew it was him because his name was plastered in big letters on the side of his van.

I`ve no idea where Jay Bird is from, where he was born, or how many borders he`s crossed. Why should I? Thanks for the friendly response 👍

It would only take a basic knowledge of championship football to see arbroath’s recruitment and where they have signed players from. Do people pay no attention to what other clubs are up too?

This may surprise you, but I have better things to do than concern myself with the recruitment of other Championship clubs. Happy to keep abreast of what the Pars are up to.

No problem with folk like yourself who have different priorities, but you shouldn`t assume or demand everyone else has the same ones as you.

Merry Christmas. 🙂

The problem with highlights is that they reflect the good passages of play that we had and not the opposition - That’s understandable they are our highlights. They are not a true reflection on the game. Arbroath had a period of play at the start of the SH where we were pinned right back & if they had converted their chances the game was finished.

I was happy to get a point.

I think a point is a point. Is progress that we didn`t play well but still git a point. Raith have been doing that most of this season but picking up 3 points. It`s points that will count at the end of the season. How we get there won`t in my view. Its a tough period to get through right now, but I am confident we will come out smiling the other side

It does surprise me. You are generally quite in tune with things and I’m a bit surprised someone like yourself doesn’t look at what is happening elsewhere.

“Maybe just me but after watching the highlights through myopic rheumy eyes we maybe could have won that game .. Aye .. Naw ?”

Goes back to the theme of watching the game vs the highlights. We maybe create. 0.2 xG vs 11 men. V 10 we were about 1, a large amount being the Moffat chance where he should score. There were a few other chances but they weren’t fantastic. A draw on the ballence of play was a good result

Didn’t we sign cardle not long after he’s had a fight on the pitch with one of his airdrie team mates?

Infact it was the team captain!

Well, there you go. Thanks for giving me more credit than I deserve. Football probably already takes up more of my life than it should. There are far more important things to be getting on with at my age.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Aye, there are about 40,000 people in the UK with the surname bird. Jay Bird was born in Milton Keynes and is black. I would say there is a fair chance that Lewis Bird fae Oakley is Jay`s dad

Struggling to understand why Redstar and Pars4life1 had to be so smartassed with their replies to GG. Red stars seemed a bit more tongue in cheek but who stole pars4lifes scone?

They gave perfectly adequate information to answer so why the ridicule?
No need at all and the idea that we should all be well read up on other teams comings and goings is just ridiculous.

Cheers, Parrot, but I`m quite relaxed about these exchanges. Red Star`s post is actually quite funny. They`ve just given my ears a wee tug for being so ignorant. I didn`t even know that Jay Bird is black or English, but I`m unrepentant.

40,000 folk named Bird in the UK? Well, I never. Could be useful bit of trivia, that. Might come up in a pub quiz. I wonder if there are more white people called Bird or more black Birds. There are definitely more blackbirds where I live. They like a good sing at the crack of dawn, too. A bit annoying in the Spring when I get woken up before 5 am, but hey, it`s the season of goodwill to all men... and women..... and birds, no doubt. 😉
