Presumably a trialist has to be a free agent, not contracted to another club?

It seems like our operating model is to secure the youngsters who have not really managed to make an impact at their youth academy.

There must be thousands of young guys who are possibly in no-mans land career wise.

It`s then up to our coaching staff and the guys application if they make it as a footballer.

Could be a sound plan if it`s cost effective.

I see we got beat 1-0
Same problem as our First Team , when we are on top or get the chance we cannot score ! and nobody following up at back post !
At least it was a chance to try a couple of trialists out ,
Noticed the Forum has been pretty quite
Is everyone waiting for tomorrow when we sign a player or two ??

So he’s a midfielder? Assumed it would be a striker if he was number 9.

The summer we brought in Callum Morris/Josh Falkingham/Alex Whittle a large amount of the recruitment was done after playing Nike Academy which was made up of players released from the EPL academies.

Wee Eck you should know me better than make assumptions !
I couldn`t go to the game because it was behind closed doors !
However I am basing what i wrote from the official Dunfermline site which was giving updates and a match report ! So it`s facts not fiction Eck
Regarding my opinion about not being able to score like our First team was based on this and our first teams record of scoring , At the games i go along to we often make good chances but do not take them and itbites us in the bum ! goals help win games
I think only Airdrie and Arbroath have scored fewer goals than us in the league so this is what I base things on regarding our scoring record !
I am confident though as players come back from injury and hopefully we sign one or two this will change , as I put many things down to how we have had to play people out of position just to field a team ,

Well you might be surprised to know that I read the match report too, wullie. What I learned was that we played better in the second half than in the first and had a few attempts on goal but whether we had any glaring misses or someone wasn`t following up at the back post is anybody`s guess.

Eck you can read along the lines what has happened and I know you are like myself we like to do our homework before posting , just like after a saturday night if we have got beat , it`s never a good time to post because you want to blame a certain player , but when you are rational its a different story ! nobody tries to miss chances just like deniz was getting slaughterd for a couple of bad things and I was happy people gave him the thumbs up after saturday , its football it happens , we move on but we certainly do not have someone up front at present who you could say will score a good few goals for us , and as I said I am sure this will change once because it doesnt matter what league you play in , it is very difficult to be play as a lone striker

And for you da no 1 you have always to get your tuppence worth in !
You should try stepping back a bit sometimes
there is the flip side da no 1 some folk are probably quite here because you just have to make a mountain out of a mole hill
I do not think anything I wrote is out of context with the amount of goals we are scoring , what I wrote is fact
I am sure you will want the last word on this too
check my posts in the future I never ever say anything bad about anyone as none of us are perfect

Aw calm doon min. I read your post the way is was written, in that you were commenting on a performance without actually knowing anything about the game other than the final score. Maybe if you`d told us you had read the report in your first post, I certainly wouldn`t have commented at all. Saying that, our official match reports are always going to lean towards our team rather than the opposition. Surely the only real way of judging how we played is to go to the game?

Anyway this is my final word on this thread, sorry if I upset you.

it wasnt McPake, if it was Isaac Fletcher he would have to been signed by us and the paperwork wasnt through or was released by Middlesbrough some time before the game.....although we do have previous for playing an ineligible player at this level.

Better than having 16 year olds on the bench who are untested at this level and there is a great chance they aren`t ready.

I would be delighted to see Cardle come in as a player/coach taking over Greig Shield’s role. Signing him as a player only seems a bit desperate though, which I hate saying as he is one of my favourite players ever to play for the club.

I do think Cardle would be a good appointment to the role Greg Shields has just vacated. Would depend on his other commitments with his own academy though I guess.

I do think given our bench is fairly weak most weeks that having an experienced player, that would certainly give the crowd a lift if called upon, can only be a good thing.

Brewster was still playing regularly though at a top level first at Ionikus and then at Hibs. Cardle hasn’t been with a team for 9 months since he was let go at Kelty! Not a similar situation at all.

He`d be a good player to have around the squad, and make an impact from the bench - having seen our bench the last couple of months, its pretty obvious we lack experience and ability. Add to the fact he would be a great influence around the youngsters, and has probably already worked with a few of them through his own academy.

I really don`t see the issue with giving him a deal til the end of the season.

Because it’s a smokescreen to deflect away from the fact this transfer window has been atrocious. Since he was a free agent he could have signed at any time, yet during the last few games we’ve went with 2 gks and 3 youngsters on the bench why wasn’t he good enough then but now seems worthy?

If he comes as a coach then I’d welcome that!! But folk are touting him coming back as a player and if that is the case then surely we should be aiming higher than a 36 yr old without a club for 9 months! And if he is the best we can attract then there are serious issues behind the scenes.

Aye and look at all the players we have managed to bring in. I don`t think anyone is suggesting he will be the first name on the team sheet but let`s be honest what`s the alternative? A sixteen year old who isn`t good enough or experienced enough to play at this level cardle ticks both of those boxes. I`d be pretty confident he won`t be asking for mega bucks and will fill the gaps left with injuries and gives us another option to change the game if the 11 that started isn`t doing it.

Aye look at the players we have managed to bring in! A defender (who could be decent) and a striker who’s been bouncing about in the Northern and National leagues of England! It remains to be seen if it’s been a successful window but right at this moment I’m not filled with much confidence that they’re the answer to our obvious shortcomings on-field.

And as I said before Lochgelly Albert- why didn’t we sign him when we were reduced to putting 2 gks and 3 untested youngsters on the bench? He was a free agent so could’ve been signed anytime - what’s changed between then and now?

Jakubiak, Tod, Breen, Todd and Comrie are all due back in the next two weeks so hopefully we are over the worst. Imagine if we`d signed another three or four as cover. No one has ever answered my question - how big a squad should a club like ours have, given we have no regular reserve team fixtures and we`re committed to a youth policy? Joe hasn`t played at Championship level for a few years but fans imagine him as he was about 5 years ago.

Cardle wasnt good enough 7 years ago to push us into the Prem, why do people now think hes the signing we need now after being released from League One and not having a club since?

Would be a fantastic appointment to the academy/coaching staff though and may even entice Dylan Easton to switch allegiances 😜

And an untested 16 year old is the answer ? Your saying you want improvement but don`t want to sign someone who has played at this level and extensive experience? Surely he will be an upgrade on any of our bench from Saturday?

We have had a by your view a "woeful window" then surely signing a guy to strengthen our bench is a good move ?

c'mon the pars

Happy to have Jojo at the club and I agree he might be a ready made replacement for Greg Shields.
I’m also sure that were we having serious squad issues, he could still do a shift as a sub and give it his all.
He clearly loves the club and hopefully will become a successful coach.

Here’s the issue- We have a decent attendance every week, we have a ground and facilities the likes of Livi, St Mirren, Ross County and every other Championship team bar Dundee Utd would love to have- yet we appear to be having issues attracting a decent standard of players.

dont see Cardle getting a playing deal, the academy role i think is totally different to what he does so i dont see that either but who knows.

im more interested in the lad Fletcher out of the two and what the thinking is with that one.

why cant we attract players?
others offering more money is the obvious answer.
maybe players dont want to travel from the west if they are over there.
maybe the club dont have enough scouts and contacts to widen the pool.

there will be plenty of other maybe`s but you will never got the real answers.

Just because we are not signing them doesn`t mean we are not attractive,

I suspect we are just not willing to match other clubs wage offers.

Doesn`t mean we are smaller, doesn`t mean we are in financial difficulties.

Just means we have x amount a week and if you wanna play for us that`s what you`ll get.

At the end of the day there is more footballers than spaces at clubs with 1000`s getting told every season they are not gonna be full time.

If your coaching staff is any good they can take any half decent group of footballers and build a team.

It`s time everyone woke up to the idea that we are a prudent club and we will only make marquee signings if the price is right.

If he comes as a coach then I’d welcome that!! But folk are touting him coming back as a player and if that is the case then surely we should be aiming higher than a 36 yr old without a club for 9 months! And if he is the best we can attract then there are serious issues behind the scenes.

He`d be an improvement on O`Halloran!

Could the problem be the likes of rovers are not putting in relegation reduction clause and we are given current form as we drop down the league? I assume we got stung last time with this.
