I thought it was cleared up last season? Shame as a fully fit and functioning Wighton is a sublime player.

Wighton like Chalmers is not good enough for a team looking to challenge at the top end of the Championship so not a big loss in my opinion

This forum is not a happy place when the Pars are going through a sticky spell. No one is spared, the Board, the manager, the players, and even fellow fans who try to defend any of the aforementioned.
It`s obviously Wighton`s turn now. He`s obviously not done as well this season as he did in League 1. Quite understandable, considering he`s playing at a higher level and even more so when you consider he`s been turning out while obviously not 100% fit. How long ago did we learn he had problems with his knees? Some players would have told the manager they couldn`t play and just taken the money - which they`re perfectly entitled to do. We even had a player at the Pars whose injuries were a figment of his imagination some 25 years ago. Jimmy Calderwood bought him from St Mirren. He spent more time on the treatment table than he did on the pitch.... ☹️

Completely unnecessary. As are the comments on social media from wee fannies who are meant to be supporters of the club. Decency doesn`t cost anything.

Awful news for any player.
I seem to recall that early last season, when we heard about his knee problem, the steer from the specialist was to `manage it`, basically keep playing until it worsened. Given the form he found in the second half of last season it was good for us that he did.
I do however think it`s a bit of a stretch to suggest he was putting his body on the line for us. His deal was up last summer and, had he been out long term, he may not have received that new contract. He will have known this himself and wanted to carry on playing.

I think you`re perhaps the one doing the stretching, Jeffrey. 😀
I merely suggested he`s maybe been playing when not fully fit - the "body on the line" remark came exclusively from you. 🙄

My recollection is that the medical advice was to keep playing and his knee was likely to get better, not get worse which would have been a strange prognosis to give a player. Some of the stuff that gets posted on here is incredible.

You cannot run off an ACL injury.
If Joe Public had a partial tear of the ACL then the NHS would do nothing about it. You’d still be able to take part in sport, but the knee would likely swell &/or bruise & need to be ‘managed’ with rest and ice in the following days. The NHS would not operate until it became a full tear, which is likely to happen at some point, especially if you continue to play. I’d imagine this could be what has happened to Wighton. It’s a real shame for the guy especially if he has had ACL injuries already in both knees.
On a side note, I’d have robustness & injury history as one of the KPIs when considering signing targets.
Disclaimer: I’m not a medical practitioner & the above is just subjecture.

I`m not clear on the relevance of NHS advice and treatment. He would have been seen and advised by a specialist in terms of the club`s medical insurance surely?

Good perspective 7eleven.
For weeck I probably should have said, `if it worsened` rather than `when`. I do think though that he`d always be working around it until it got bad enough that a repair was needed.
The managers comments about his injury now sound like they are deciding if specific physio or an op is required.
"We are waiting on the next stage of his recovery whether it is a tidy up or just a strengthening programme. "
I imagine an identical discussion to last year.
I heard an interview with Ray Parlour once where he said something like, he reckoned `95% of the games he played he was not 100% fit`. We just seem to be getting all of our 95% this season!

The relevance of the NHS advice would likely be the same as the specialist i.e., you have a partial tear, but can continue to play until it goes completely. I’m assuming this is what the player would have been told last year, not that the injury would get better. Apologies for not making this clear initially.

School bairns. How does his opinion on politics have anything to do with football. Wighton isn’t good enough anymore as evidenced this year and the last season in the championship. Maybe down to the state of his knees to be fair to him. Still he ll probably be an asset again next year if we can’t turn it around. Every depressing cloud….

Does the club have medical insurance. I remember some years back, before our current investors came on board, we didn`t take out insurance because it was extortionate high and we ended up having to pay for several hernia ops, which had never happened before.
