Looks like a large crowd walking from high street up links street with families etc met by a large gathering of Rovers fans throwing flares etc separated by about 15 police officers - couldnā€™t quite tell though as it was recorded on the first ever video recorder by some jakey shouting out their window..

You would have to ask police Scotland that one mate I have been saying for weeks that it would kick off big time along links street today no way should we have been allowed to walk that way when we left the pub

To the people who were involved congratulations on being an embarrassment to fellow supporters, our club, city and the human race. Itā€™s this kind of ridiculous behaviour that makes me stay away from our away games. Itā€™s certainly not the kind of behaviour I want my 11 years old son seeing and thinking itā€™s acceptable at a football game.

This is the problem, people think it`s football and it`s "just what happens". If you can`t go to the football without acting like a bellend then maybe football isn`t for you.

absolutely blows my mind that people go to football for a fight. Never mind criminal damaging property. Absolute buffoons that cannot handle their drink. And then to defend their actions by saying its just football, or its a derby im allowed to act like an idiot.

Stick them in the jail for a day a watch how hard they really are.

after seeing the videos its the usual i`ll dress like a hooligan and im part of an ultra group types. im sure the club are really proud of your behaviour

Exactly my point but that seems to be the view of some. Is it just what happens or is it just banter?

It`s funny how they idolise ultras from other countries or Germany but are acting completely different to them.

Photos of the damage on Pie and Bovril. Lots of damage, graffiti including "die Rovers Bastards" and "hang the Rovers scum", also graffiti on the seats at the front (presumably the seats hidden by the banners etc in that section). Going to be a hefty bill and increased policing costs yet again at our away games next season, especially if we share a league with Raith and Falkirk. Absolute idiots, and banning orders and fines need to be handed out if they catch who did it (some people will know of course but won`t want to be seen as a grass). Sad.

The bottle opener incident is mentioned in the article, and in their statement, Hibs acknowledge that "the behaviour of certain sections of Hibernian FCā€™s own support has not been good enough at times this season".

This is a problem that affects ALL football clubs, and pointing the finger at supporters of other clubs doesn`t solve that problem. Somehow we need to deal with the root cause(s) - is it something about football that brings out the worst in those who attend matches, or is it something to do with the polarisation of views made worse by social media, or is it something about the demographic of the fanbase, or is it all these things plus something much deeper in the human psyche about tribalism, frustration, personal inadequacy etc. The problem of football fans` anti-social behaviour goes back to its earliest days.

This article is about fan behaviour at American football, but suggests some things that I think are true for us.
https://tinyurl.com/4z2w9tsb

The whole article is worth reading, but I`ve picked out a couple of paragraphs:

"According to social identity theory, we all craft our identity within the group(s) to which we belong, so being a fan of a particular team can be central to an individualā€™s identity. When the team is doing well, fans have a feeling of vicarious achievement, with hormonal surges and other physiological changes similar to those of the athletes on the field. Highly identified fans have even bigger increases in positive emotions following a win. Known as "basking in reflected glory," the teamā€™s successes bring an increase in status and a feeling of pride for highly identified fans, which can be powerfully reinforcing.

The Flip Side: Dysfunctional Fans
While highly identified fans have bigger increases in positive emotions when their team wins, they also experience bigger increases in negative emotions following a loss, including anger, humiliation, and resentment. A team loss can be experienced as a threat to one`s social identity, and fans who have a stronger identification with their in-group are more likely to feel angry when this happens. The vast majority of fans will follow social norms and deal with losses without infringing on anyone elseā€™s experience. However, there is a darker side to fandom for a small number of fans, who will diverge from those norms and engage in abusive or aggressive behavior. Researchers have defined these ā€œdysfunctional fansā€ as having impaired social functioning and engaging in behaviors such as confronting others and complaining. Dysfunctional fans are more likely to behave aggressively at sporting events, shouting insults to rival fans, insulting referees, or even engaging in violent acts.

Unfortunately the article doesn`t offer a solution to the behaviour of these dysfunctional fans!

I`ve said it on previous threads, but there is something seriously wrong and it appears to affect football more than any other sport. People can group together in pubs, cafes, cinemas, rugby matches, theatres etc but you (rarely) see people suddenly deciding it`s fine to throw objects or make racist/bigoted/sexist/homophobic remarks in those situations. For whatever reason, football fans appear fine with this. Our two biggest clubs actively promote bigotry despite making claims to tackle it. Tackling it by making ORANGE football tops? Tackling it by allowing songs about the Queen/Pope? Tackling it by allowing away fans to be pelted with pies?

We are also to blame. We have a fantastic set of fans in the North West but some seem intent on throwing objects, shouting abuse, smashing things up and starting fights. Many will recall our previous chairman getting considerable grief for closing that section due to the behaviour being displayed. Maybe he had a point?

Reading the extracts from that article makes me wonder if the theory put forward could also explain some of the reaction on here after a poor performance or result.

A good post Kozma. The fuds who done that would have been fair proud of themselves to note that there was going to be extra police on duty for the game so lets trash the toilets too and maybe see if we can find another disabled supporter to give a kicking to. Not sure if it was our ultras LOL, northwest or Tan Man and his twats but they`re costing the club money as well as tarnishing the reputation. Well done

Who is Tan Man? I`d be surprised if it was the Section North West, they went into hiding big time after the furore of their cowardly attack on the Rovers kid. They must`ve been kacking it to turn up, due to the threats made on Twitter (X).

On a side note, what is it with these new "Ultras" kids and their dress sense. I seen a whole bunch of Motherwell ones all wearing matching Motherwell Ultras branded hoodies - looked rediculous. At least the casuals of the 80s and 90s had great clobber
