 Worst result you’ve seen…
Topic Originator: Dave_1885

…..as a Pars fan?

Obviously many older fans will have differing views but based on our level/ability etc whats the worst result you’ve seen?

Last night is probably in my top 3…..losing to a part time team from 2 divisions below at home with those tactics was just brutal.

Cowdenbeath at home in the play off final would be in there too, along with Arbroath 3-0 at home in the Yogi Hughes era…..

See, my friend asked why it wasn’t the Falkirk semi in 09, but my response was that it wasn’t that bad as both teams were fairly evenly matched at the time, at a neutral ground and although it was a gutting result, it wasn’t a hugely shocking result, unlike last night

Were we not fairly level pegging with Hibs for that Cup Final?

2-1 Hafnarfjordur

5-0 home to Hamilton Accies. Could have been 15-0.

Play-off pumped 3-0 against Cowdenbeath (now no longer in the league system!)

Possibly the worst I have felt was after the 2007 Cup Final though. That could have been ours. Seem to recall Burchill having a great chance in the opening stages.

Burchill was clean through in the opening stage and tugged it wide.

That final came to symbolise so much of what is wrong with the Scottish Game.

As I recall it was known as the `Jinky` final because Jimmy Johnstone sadly died just before the game - the Celtic players all wore number 7 on their shorts. The fact that two teams were playing in the match was ignored/forgotten.

We missed a couple of decent chances - Burchill in particular - before Celtic scored a scabby goal through Jean Joel Perrier Doumbe, who`d never scored a goal before, and never scored one again. He`s exactly the type of forgettable expensive player from abroad that the Old Firm would pick up (and still do pick up) when they have the slightest of injury problems, and therefore perfectly illustrative of the ridiculous gulf between Celtic, Sevco and the rest.

And Celtic got to win their 40 somethingth scottish cup, whilst we knew we`d be unlikely to be in a position to win a trophy for decades.

European game in Perth
Hamilton 5-0
QOTS at east end when Dobie scored at hat-trick

2 more games that really stick in my memory for some reason.

1st may 1993 pars 0 vs 2 cowdenbeath as our title challenge was coming off the rails. Their 2nd goal was a give n go with a backheel flick. Rank rotten

6th Jan 1990 pars 0 vs 5 motherwell. They totally annihilated us that game, Davie cooper was out of this world if my memory serves right.

Not a singular result for but the final ouch at the end of a 3 game run. I think it was about 10 - 15 years ago and I think we were in the championship. If I remember correctly we lost 3 nil to Alloa (I think), then 4 nil to Livingston (again I think),then it all culminated in 5 nil home drubbing by Hamilton (I`m sure about that one).

The results, the feeling around the club and all the negative vibes did not a good time make.

The 3 cup finals all stung too, even though we were underdogs. Walking away from Hampden 3 times, totally dejected, and the Celtic fans weren`t even that excited because they`re so used to winning cups,it just feels like winning another bog standard league game to them.

I didn`t get to go to the earlier Hibs cup final (cheers faither 😉 ), but I can remember crying when we lost and my mother getting angry at me for crying about a football match.

I could be wrong, just from a failing memory, but I remember it as:
Hamilton (H) 0-5
Stirling (A) 0-3
Livi (H) 0-4

2007, towards the end of Kenny?

Too many to mention.
I don’t really count hammerings by the big guns as worst but the ones by teams about our level at the time or worse.
East Stirling in the early 80’s was definitely one of my first and worst memories
1-3 I think and got Tam Forsyth the boot if memory serves.
0-4 vs Meadowbank which effectively lost Jocky Scott his job
Hearts hammering us 7-1 at tynecastle after Calderwood’s kamakazi tactics
The defeat in Gothenburg where players and staff let the club down big time against a team on the level of East Fife.

Yes parsfan you`re right, I knew it was a fairly local team, hence why Alloa popped into my mind. The order is irrelevant, I just remembered it was 3 miserable displays and results.

I completely forgot about the desolation of the 2 European ties against part-time European minnows.

Think you are getting mixed up with the 0-4 pumping we got under Leishman in 1986 with Hamish McAlpine in goal, which I think was the worst result I`ve witnessed in person.

I`ve been at bigger losses, but that was a terrible night.

Think it was the 0-2 loss to Cowdenbeath at home in 1993 with 3 games to go that done it for Jocky, along with only getting 3 points out the last 9 games.

The worst result you`ve seen?

I never saw it, though I did listen to the BBC commentary here in Melbourne—that Hafnarfjordur game in Perth. I have never experienced a deeper low as a Pars supporter than that. And heaven knows, there have been plenty of lows!

So many bad memories all in the one thread.

When I saw the title of this thread 2 games immediately came to mind, and I’m glad(?) to see they are both mentioned.

The worst I have felt after a game by far was after the Hafnarfjörður match at McDiarmid. Such a maelstrom of emotions – after the fiasco of the Iceland trip, the excitement of our first home European match but having to go to Perth to play it, the massive queues on the M90 and the recollection of grief at the sight of Perth Crematorium I was already an emotional wreck even before the game. The result was compounded by the mockery of some (ex-) friends the next day. I am comforted by knowing I may never feel that bad again.

But I don’t think that was worst result. After a couple of dishonourable mentions of the Stranraer cup game (I could barely speak after it, and it was a long journey home) and the 3-0 loss to 9 man Dumbarton (Jim Moffat was in goals, I think), the worst would be the loss to East Stirlingshire in the first round of the cup in 1984.

I’m only including games I was at. I used to say that I would rather see a loss in person rather than hear about it 2nd or 3rd hand; I came close to revising that opinion after catching some (but not all) of the radio commentary of the 8-1 at home to Celtic and the 7-1 away to Hearts. And I could throw in another couple of cup results (there must be something about the high expectations being unmatched by performance) from back in the days when all you would get was the full-time score on Sportsound or Grandstand (and if you were lucky a brief mention of the scorers in the papers the next day) – losing to Clydebank in 1975 and Brechin in 1978. Seeing the teleprinter stutter into life with SC1 Brechin City 1 Dunfermline Ath and being staggered not to see a high number helpfully confirmed in words immediately after was not fun.

More than a few tbh.
Burchill’s early chance in the Cup Final was no “missed sitter” from our position behind the goal - a half chance only.
Lots mentioned above qualify for Hall of Shame inclusion, a 0-6 at Raith on a New Year’s Day also.
Skol Cup final was a downer - as said, the Pars failed to turn up, especially Kozma who chose that day as another of his no show performances.

Agree with the above. Burchill was about 35 yards from goal when he hit the shot on the half volley if im remembering correctly. But Celtic were rotten that day, the 04 pars team would have beaten them.

Worst I’ve felt is probably the Cowdenbeath 0-3 game. Going into it full of confidence (arrogance). Back down to earth inside a minute. Last season will take some beating aswell. Rovers taking the utter p*** out of us all season long.

I would say the 5-0 Hamilton game but to be fair we weren’t really bad (well sol was) it’s just everything they tried came off for them.

For me it’s the 6-0 killie game or the blowout 8-1 away to hearts.

Not that simple - had we beaten Saints that penultimate league game Hearts still had it in their hands to win the league title on the final Saturday while we were losing the cup v Celtic.

A Jam Tarts victory or draw v Kilmarnock would have taken the championship to Tynecastle on points.

0-6 Kilmarnock game sprung to mind imediately. Memory is a bit patchy other than remembering Durant ripped us to bits and the game was maybe quite close at 1 or maybe even 2 down at a push before Dick Campbell sacrificied a defender and threw on David Graham to go with three up front and the roof well and truly caved in.

Other than that hard to disagree with the ones mentioned already.

Would add a game away to Livingston that got Davie Hay the bullet just before Leishman came in for the `great escape`. We are absolutely awful that day.

And purely for the humiliating aspect i'm sure Falkirk beat us at EEP at the end of a season under Hughes, think we already had been relegated, with the abiding memory being Anthony Stokes doing keepy uppies near the corner flag in front of the East Stand and getting the "Ole!" cheers from the crowd :-(

"And George Farm the Wee teams manager that day, that`s rubbing salt in the wound."

I hadn`t made that connection - only wanted to totally forget all from that day - the keeper at Stark`s Park was a total waste of a jersey.

George Farm left Rovers in 1974. The six nil drubbing was in 1983. Totally ruined my new year. Pretty sure Gordon Wallace was in charge of Raith.

Thanks HB - that fits the era I was thinking off.
