Apologies no live updates today - purely down to not wanting to pay £26 entry.
I’ve also been putting off an eye test so there’s that too 😂
Please post the team etc if ye get it before me ~ I’ll keep an eye oot for the clubs posts on X and the BBC etc.

Good save from Mehmet there but defence were poor for the cross.

No shot on target yet but a few corners and poor crosses that have came to nothing. We really seem to be struggling with crossed balls when Hamilton go forward though. As I type 1-0 Hamilton. Poor stuff again. Defence looks brutal

It’s time for everyone to consider the real possibility that mcpake is very limited and he might well have taken us as far as he can.
Signings, formation and tactics, just not good enough for me. The German statement has bought him some cover but this absolute dross can’t go on.

His jobs is on the line, he should be utilising all his contacts in the game to help him out with some decent signings.
But instead we’re getting young raw players that it’s unrealistic to expect them to hit the ground running in this league. It’s a recipe for disaster and if sacked he can have no complaints. We were stuck in the summer as we had too much dross on long contracts.
If we were to sack him where do you think he’ll end up? We tend to be the last full time club for many a player and perhaps a manger too.

Wonder how many goals Ayr will take off the mighty Dunfermline nil next week?
I mean we weren’t really expecting a new sub goalkeeper to make any difference were we? Gotta laugh playing some of these jokers and expecting to take something from the game against the 2nd weakest team in the league…
Good news is we’ll likely have some new inexperienced raw youngsters on the bench to make zero impact next week. Infact no doubt bene will be out and we’ll end up with Hamilton playing centre back again too.

We looked brutal against a team that will most likely be joining us in the relegation fight. Sadly for us it looks an absolute certainly we’re going down. The players are trying but are nowhere near good enough. Even though it’s clear we need improvement, we are scraping in the bargain bucket and the board have waiting far to late to release funds when many players that would have improved us have signed for our rivals. Our summer signings of Ngweyna and Wotherspoon are poor and make us look even weaker than last season. There is zero creativity and zero goal threat in this squad.
Hosler even looks miles off it. When he gets the ball in space he’s not driving forward at players like he did in league one. Sadly I can only see it being cricket scores against Ayr next week. As much as the board have badly let us down, McPake must take a massive chunk of the blame with his signings.

Hamilton at center half will be better with chalmers in midfield. Otoo and hamikton don`t work well together as they end up offering nothing going forward. Both great players, but it`s stifling the forward play.

Why play the same formation week in week out this 3 at the back just about worked last season does not mean it will work this season as teams know oor likely formation now playing this system and come up with a game plan to play against it. Why not play 4 at back with the extra man trying to attack and suprise the opposition team by guessing oor formation every week but playing the same every week team set up to combat it. Mcpake have different plans, Plan A plan B. We have the professional to adapt to changes.

Good news is we’ll likely have some new inexperienced raw youngsters on the bench to make zero impact next week. Infact no doubt bene will be out and we’ll end up with Hamilton playing centre back again too.
Hamilton at center half will be better with chalmers in midfield. Otoo and hamikton don`t work well together as they end up offering nothing going forward. Both great players, but it`s stifling the forward play.
Agreed. You can’t play Hamilton and Otoo as a midfield two. Neither of them are creative. They’re both better defenders than midfielders.

Of the games I have watched, when the opposition scores, there is always the feeling that`s game over. I agree with one of the earlier posters that when we lose a goal, the heads do seem to go down. Again not being able to test the goalkeeper in the first 45 minutes is an issue. You can argue that we have lost goals through errors we are simply not creating chances and as a result there doesn`t appear to be the belief we can get back into the game.

The team seems to play a bit better, in an attacking sense, when we have lost the game!!

Sorry DBA
Was not at game today and did not watch it. What was our formation today?? I thought it was 3 with comrie playing on the right of the 3.
We are not going to get top quality in now as we are up for sale but hoping some rich investors come in and know the potential this club has.
The budget if any has not been there cause I think the Germans knew away back that they knew they were going to sell but waited until season ticket money, sponsorship money and merch money came in first.
I also imo think they should have contributed in the first team first then branched out getting the youth set up done after having set up a successful first team but probably think I am not alone in this.
I don’t really blame mcpake as such as he has not had the backing but the formation side of things yeah he’s to blame.
Sorry just frustrated the now…

And I certainly will not be watching them much longer as what we are seeing at present is rancid got better things to do on a Saturday afternoon , no Plan A never mind Plan B from Mcpake
Under McPake we seem to be absolutely gash !!
I am not looking forward to playing an inform Ayr team next week if we are going to be served up the same old dross

I feel your pain but hopefully if reports are to be believed, we should have a new CB for next week. Really our problems are up top/midfield. Ends up putting to much pressure on defence and we end up leaking poor goals.
From what I’ve read tho the goal we lost today was a shocker

I think McPake has become demoralised with what’s going on behind the scenes and lack of support from the BOD. Perhaps if the club had been run properly by the owners he would have done better.
In saying that, I think his current mindset has affected the team and performances. It won’t change under JMcP. It needs a new manager to lift the team, improve training, tactics and formation. We need to get the best out of Otoo, KRH, Kane to name a few.

I don’t think the players will improve under the current manager tbh. Listening to JMcP after the game makes me feel that the dressing room is in disarray. The team needs leadership and they are not getting that.
I would make Chris Hamilton captain though as he is the only player that has the inbuilt motivation to give 100% every game.

Bottom of the league with no goals scored.
Germans selling up.
Mcpake making crap decisions on the pitch.
The longer this goes on the worse it could get.
Will we get straight back up from league 1? (yes, I am being very negative Nelly here because I have us relegated already!)… I don’t think we will.

Fisher was awful - he was subbed for that I would think
Sam Young was a decent sub
Cooper at least wasn’t frightened to shoot
McCann ran the flanks well and has found a long throw in the locker
Bene isn’t directing or leading and I blame him for organising the defence for the goal.
Sutherland has a Gallus streak about him that I like
Kane held things up well and had a few nice touches
Witherspoon was looking for the pass with few wanting them
Comrie is off form
Mehmet had a great save but either he isn’t confident in those around him or vice Versa

That’s pretty upbeat coventry, makes it seem like we did okay and were just unlucky. No point running the channels well if you couldn’t cross a road. Bene looks like he’s on a big win bonus and knows it was a mistake to sign up to it!
Also would add Hamilton were and are a very poor team and they beat us pretty much with zero pressure just a ball into the box. .

I agree with Coventry Par - Fisher had a poor first half and had also been booked. Young did better. Frustrating goal to lose as Tumilty was completely unmarked at the back post. Cooper really impressed when he came on and Sutherland also threatened with McCann trying his best as usual and hitting the bar. However the slow tempo and lack of movement off the ball continues to be a problem. Could have done with Cooper and Sutherland coming on earlier.

It was a poor game with the game decided by horrific defending at a corner but I must say I thought the ref was very poor allowing Hamilton to disrupt the play with niggly fouls all over the park. The foul count on BBC says they committed 20 fouls, by far the highest in the Championship today, and they only got 2 yellow cards. We got 2 for 9 fouls and one of these was for KRH after the ref had initially allowed him to break away after a challenge in midfield.

The first half was incredibly poor quality, and the atmosphere was really poor, felt like a friendly kind of vibe which never helps, was hoping for a little more backing from the crowd.
We offered nothing, literally nothing up top, we just find it more difficult than any other team at the moment to generate some attacking momentum, open up defences a little bit, playing it wide, and quickly to stretch teams. None of that, was very slow and turgid, same as every other game this season.
When you are that uninspiring up top, defending is crucial, and Hamilton should’ve been ahead earlier with a clear as day, unmarked shot which Mehmet did well to tip onto the bar. We’d think, got away with that, lesson learnt but no, similar thing following attack and this time back post as free a header as you could possibly ask for and in the net.
You have to point the blame on McPake for this, as that is basic defending and should be well drilled in but we continue to let it happen.
People are being nice to Fisher, he was absolutely brutal in that first half, I would’ve subbed him off earlier and haven’t been impressed with him all season so far.
Second half, we were the better side, no doubt about it, Hamilton offered nothing up front and we were on the front foot for the majority, but I just find having any kind of shot on goal it takes some amount of effort and unnecessary hard work to achieve it. I disagree with McPake on KRH, he had little to no impact on the game. McCann was the one working his socks off carrying the team forward and firing the balls in, one flukily whacking the bar. Josh Cooper probably had the best chance, he hit it well enough, just wide of the net.
Bene went down injured, I must admit, there’s a small part of me that think he’s at it, and surprised not to see Breen come on but Young did well, albeit had nothing to really do.
Full time, glad to be on the bus home, was encouraged by the second half performance but overall another disappointing day and with the unbeaten Ayr next up, McPake may be one more loss away from the exit door.

I think Raith and Partick had a go at promotion last year. It may have cost them financially to do so. It might be a challenge for them to do the same this year unless they throw alot of money at it. I don`t see us being in a position to have a go this year but it would be a bonus to get into the playoffs. Hopefully with 2 or 3 coming in things can turn a corner.

Rusty was great when we won promotion then decided to be injured and focus on his band as we went down.

I don’t think the players have downed tools. There was enough aggression between each other when passes were missed or gaps were left to suggest they want to do better. Whether they are backing the manager is yet to be seen. Second half with players wanting to prove themselves/make an impact things were better. We need more ( controlled) aggression against the opposition.
The new boy Josh was what was lacking from many. Play the new keeper , incoming centre half , new midfielder a hungery Sam young , a very competent Sutherland … fighters in Hamilton Otoo Wotherspoon and Kane and who knows a couple of wins and ….

I think we were a little unlucky not to take anything from that. Not hugely unlucky – we did make a massive defensive mistake and we didn’t test their keeper nearly enough but we did have the majority of the ball and I don’t think Mehmet had a lot to do.
I note that Alison Walker (whose father’s life we celebrated with the minute’s applause) described Accies as being “Jammy” so there’s a different perspective.
A 4-4-2 to begin with, 2 naturally defensive midfielders in Otoo and Hamilton in the middle, Wotherspoon on the left and KRH on the right. This changed after about half an hour with McCann going to the left and Wotherspoon moving more centrally, where presumably he could see more of the ball.
Although we had more possession, Accies looked more dangerous – not sure O’Hara’s touch was going in when Mehmet palmed it onto the crossbar, and the goal we conceded was terrible. They had 6 players in the box for the corner, and we had everyone back. Tumilty’s run wasn’t picked up and he had a free header. I’m not sure you can blame McPake for this unless his instructions are not to defend the back post. Perhaps there is confusion between zonal and man for man marking; someone should get it sorted on the pitch.
We lost a lot of bad goals at the start of the Peter Grant era and I wondered if the 3 centre-back system led players not to take responsibility as there should be a spare man. Yesterday it seemed the opposite – everyone had their job to do and when one person didn’t do theirs, there was no-one to cover.
Fisher I assume wasn’t injured, but hooked. Just before half-time he played a hospital pass (too hard, too high) to Comrie right in front of the dug-out and got a rocket from McPake. Immediately after he made an error and then took the boy down and was booked. It was odd (but good) to see Young get the nod over Breen and he did fine, although he didn’t have a lot of defending to do.
Bene must be approaching the stage where he gets injured a lot – whereas two seasons ago he seemed to need treatment nearly every week but could soldier on, two years older and better opposition means that is no longer an option. I see Fogarty has come in so perhaps it’s with that in mind.
Ngwenya going off was a strange one – maybe necessary to accommodate Cooper who looked promising – almost like a normal midfielder. Again Breen wasn’t used when Bene went off and we ended up with a central-defensive pairing of Young and Hamilton; Wotherspoon lasted the 90, KRH was booked (I’m not sure why – the referee didn’t impress and I’m sure his stand-side assistant missed the ball going out at least twice) and McCann looked dangerous, or as dangerous as anyone (it’s a low bar) on the right. But again, too little too late.

So where now? Six straight losses. One win in 12. Losing at home to Cove (bottom of Division 1) and Forfar (bottom of Division 2). I think if we had the money to spare, McPake would be gone.
In management circles there is a (glib) expression along the lines of “if you can’t change the people change the people”. So either the personnel improve, or you get rid.
McPake was originally given the remit of “winning games of football”. Which he did – not particularly easily or entertainingly, but at least he won them.
It seemed his modus operandi was to play a possession based style, pass the ball around in the first half, tire out his opponents then step up the tempo in the second half, grab a goal, and see the game out, maybe nicking a second when the opposition left gaps at the back. If that was his m.o. it no longer works, and he has been slow to adapt.
I think there is a common route map for managers to take things in stages – improve the spine, make yourself hard to beat, grind out results before, at some distant point in the future, playing a beautiful, expansive, high-scoring brand of football. But most managers never seem to get to the last stage; they become paralysed by fear of failure.
I’d also question if they become so obsessed by coaching manuals (do such things actually exist?) that they lose sight of some of the fundamentals like creating chances and scoring goals. A lot is made of “shape”. Shape with the ball, shape without the ball. Sometimes I think that a coach would prefer that shape be kept rather than winning games of football.
Perhaps McPake is trying to make changes – the different set-up; the signing of Wotherspoon and now Cooper. I would hope this is a matter of discussion between him and the board, who have a responsibility to get the most out of one of their key employees.
He may well have been handicapped by the budgetary policy which seems to have been to limit commitments until the loan market frees up (which it is beginning to do). However, I do not believe he is getting the best out of the players at his disposal – in particular I would point to the lack of chances created – this seems consistent with the philosophy where given the choice of a quick, speculative ball into the box, or a safe, slow backwards pass retaining possession, the latter option is chosen every time. Not only is this turgid, it’s not proving successful and that is the issue.

Great post mccaigs tower.
Mcpake has certainly wedded himself to the slow, safe turgid play and the squad seems moulded in that image with a number of slow defensive minded players and those more attacking players we have or need have been largely ignored with no focus on attacking. Wotherspoon doesn’t have the legs to run into and create space and KRH has been turned into…well not a winger anyway and at this point this might be the highest level he plays at despite all the promise and being the only player in the team with any pace. He’s a perfect example of what mcpake is doing to players under the current set up.
Josh cooper looks to have broken the usual mould in that he has the engine and has a bit of a dig about him too, he should mix things up but he’s just one player and we are still lacking any quality experience and leadership.
Mcpake might aswell go for it against Ayr, the other stuff will see him out of a job anyway and if nothing changes in tactics and personnel the result certainly won’t.
The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity!

Im absolutely agreeing with McCraig there. To often guys roll it back without having a look. We were never a good looking football team under McPake but we did have strength and work rate in the middle. We got the ball wide and created chances from wide or countered quickly. I’ve not seen any of that for a long time tho. Probably since we beat Dundee Utd at EEP? 🤷🏻♂️
I don’t care if we play pretty football or not, I do expect us to compete, create chances and score goals. I don’t see us doing anything like it atm

Nice to see Rovers supporters in meltdown, blaming the board, no strikers, crap tactics, sack the manager!
Oh wait, they`ve done that already!🤔🤭🥴
I wouldn`t be throwing stones Kirkcaldy way considering they`re miles ahead of us currently
Are they?
100%
No questions about it…
They should be finishing in the top 3 positions of the league
We look like we’ll be finishing in the bottom 3 🤷🏻♂️
Nice to see the optimism on this forum, Raith saving money by having Potter as manager, we all know how good he is!
The wee team look like they’re about to buy their next manager.
We’ve just lost 1-0 to the weakest team in the league and haven’t scored a goal yet.
Don’t mix being realistic with pessimism. If we close the gap on Raith it’s more likely that they’ve sh@ the bed than we’ve turned into promotion hopefuls
Wheels coming off?🤔🤭🙈🤣🤣🤣

At EEP or starks park? 🤷🏻♂️😂
If they want to make a tube of it, more power to them! It seems crazy they’d sack Murray after game 1 without any plans for his replacement

I`ve been really impressed by McPake. It`s not his fault if the players don`t do what he tells them. It would be a terrible, terrible shame if another club were to take him from us.
