🆕🎙️

🏁 It may be one win in seven league games, but there may be reasons for DA supporters to be optimistic as we overview the previous month and a half at the club.

These guys are certainly more optimistic than the average punter on here. It was interesting what they said about Wotherspoon`s `assists`. The SPFL website confirms he is joint top of the Championship stats with four assists so far this season.

2 from corners v Livi, 1 from a free kick v Falkirk, what was the other one?

Otoo’s goal v Raith maybe? Can’t quite remember, but think he maybe got a goal and an assist that night.

Would have to watch it back. Not exactly much of an assist if that was the fourth but they all count as they say.

Anyway, back to the podcast. Quite why anyone would think 12 points from the next 6 games is a goer when we`ve only got 9 from our first 12 is beyond me. It`s fine saying we`ve never really been outclassed (and that`s true) but I`d rather have two 1-0 wins and a 5-0 defeat than three 1-0 losses where we`ve competed well and just not quite put the ball in the back of the net.

BBC report on the Rovers` match says Wotherspoon passed the ball to Otoo before his deflected shot off Hanlon.

You can play around with stats all day long to prove your point. I think they're saying they have seen improvement from the first three games when we won no points at all and didn't have a full squad.

What do you think my point was? I simply couldn`t remember the 4th assist. And when it was recounted then it became obvious why - a short pass to Otoo who hit a speculative shot from distance that took a wicked deflection.

And while some would argue we`re playing better recently (although we played quite well in the first 45 at Livingston in the first game of the season but by contrast we weren`t too great in the first half there on Saturday), playing well and still not scoring or playing well and still losing doesn`t get you anywhere.

What do you think my point was? I was simply passing on what the BBC report said. The SPFL obviously sees that as an `assist` and Wotherspoon won`t be the only player who will have benefited from that definition.

Similarly I was only communicating my interpretation of the podcast view. After three games there were plenty on here predicting we were doomed to relegation. Show some imagination for goodness sake.

I think it was the un needed comment of ` you can play around with stats all day long`
Simply passing on the BBC report would have sufficed
Kelty asked what the 4th was , answered it himself, then followed that up with an admission that it counted
You once again added an uncalled for comment to initiate a more heated discussion....

I 100% agree with your playing well and still loosing points-the only thing I’d say is after the cup games and the first few league matches I genuinely thought we were on for relegation. Either via the playoffs or just finishing bottom of the league. The only thing I can say just now is even though we’re not winning enough the performances are at least giving me hope we’ll start picking up points

Some folk just cannot cope with anyone putting a positive interpretation on anything relating to the football team we all claim to support. If you do you`re accused of deliberately provoking an argument - on a football forum! I wonder how you cope in life in general when someone has a different opinion from you.

No being funny eck but how can you accuse others of being argumentative for having a different opinion whilst arguing with others for having a different opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

I.have been accused, more than once, of deliberately looking for an argument simply by expressing an opinion that differs from the majority on here. Can anyone dispute that the consensus on here is negative towards the club? Why is that? As I`ve said before you are much more likely to be criticised on here for a positive comment than a negative one.

I know lots of people who support the Pars who have a similar attitude to me but they don`t post to this forum. Some of them look at it and think it`s a joke.

That’s a load of rubbish. Berkey is regularly criticised on here for being perceived to be too negative. There’s a group of posters who seem to actively seek him out in any thread, to have a go at him.

Also, a line in your post has been pointed out to you, that was the line that seemed to instigate the reaction. You’ve chosen to ignore that and claim it’s because you were being too positive, rather than acknowledging that you accused someone of trying to play around with stats to suit their argument. I’m pretty sure you’re well aware of what you’re doing, given how regularly you include comments like that, to get under someone’s skin, then play the victim when it works.

All I was saying was you can base our form on the 12 league games to date or you can base it on the last 9 after we lost the first 3. I don`t see anything inflammatory about that. I was trying to rationalise what the guys on the podcast were saying. The point about Wotherspoon`s assists surprised me so I tried to verify it independently and it turned out he was joint top. I agreed with kelty_par`s suggestion that the fourth assist was probably Otoo`s goal against the Rovers. Then it all kicked off!

You can claim I`m deliberately provocative but to me it seems people are trying to shut me up.

Well whichever way it was intended, and I took your original comment about `You can play around with stats all day long to prove your point" (my emphasis) to be you taking issue with my saying it was "not much of an assist but they all count", I don`t think there are (m)any posters that are trying to shut you up. I think there are several people however who come across as quite argumentative or combative (and I`m certainly like that on occasion) and I think if we had a poll on here as to who`d be included I`d wager you`d be on that list too. Nothing particularly wrong with that of course but it does seem to lack a little self awareness if you genuinely don`t see how some of your posts can come across that way.

Anyway, as you say stats can be played about with all day long. The simple matter is you can call it 12 games or call it 9 games since we had a bigger squad, the result is the same. 9 points from those games. 1 away point from those games (against the team currently bottom). 2 away goals in those games (1 good consolation goal at Falkirk and a penalty at Airdrie). Only 2 wins, 1 of which was against a team down to 10 for the majority of the match. To suddenly go from all of that evidence to thinking that 12 points from 6 games (4 of which are away from home) would seem fanciful and that`s before we think that we can simply bank on beating Airdrie and Hamilton at home.

The podcast was trying to look for reasons to be optimistic, but it sounded more like simply hoping that our slightly less rubbish performances (and like I say, we were decent in the first half at Livingston, it`s not like we were hopeless earlier on and have suddenly started playing well, Livi at home apart) is somehow going to automatically translate into wins.

This is getting tiresome but if you read the entire paragraph I wrote about stats it quite clearly referred to the podcast`s assessment of form and not Wotherspoon`s assists. I was using `you` instead of the more impersonal and grammatically correct `one`.

It`s a shame the podcasters haven`t come on to clarify their comments.

If you had wrote “one” I’d just have thought “argumentative and hoity-toity” so it’s probably better you didn’t. Better just being “argumentative”.

In my opinion I don’t think they really need to come here to clarify their comments however, if they keep the podcast scheduled and are consistent with it their comments can be clarified during the next podcast or their comments may make more sense to listeners with added information in the next episode(s).

Btw Eck, I’m wholly aware there is a chance you’ll read my comment and think “no this C@4T again” so please bare that in mind as you furiously single finger smash your keyboard typing your next message.

Only here for the banter

And maybe the odd argument
