Great presenter and not afraid to voice his own opinions.

Bet it’s a woman…..not that it bothers me, nothing against it, but it’s one of, if not the, biggest show on the BBC and having been hammered for equal pay over the past few years then they’ll use this to show improvements I reckon.
To be honest, I would rather the show (Sportscene as well) had a presenter leading the chat. I don’t want someone like Lineker (or Thompson) doing that, I want them analysing and telling me what players should be doing better or what they are doing well, not asking the questions.

Always liked Richard Gordon and how he handled the rabble of presenters with cool authority on a Saturday afternoon was great.
Also Happy Birthday to Archie McPherson at 90 years old whoooft. Where did time go!!

I`m surprised the popularity of a programme like MOTD depends on the identity of the presenter. Do people switch off when they discover a particular edition isn`t being hosted by Gary Lineker?

Hopefully replaced by an ethnic minority vegetarian lesbian who drinks Bud Light to set off the snowflakes.

Nah I’ll think they’ll change it up completely. That’s too close as a like for like replacement

I like the guy who does MOTD2.....Mark Chapman. Pretty obvious replacement you`d think.

Mark Chapman is the obvious replacement, he`s a good anchorman for it. I liked Lineker.
I reckon the BBC will have been told they need to get rid of Lineker after his Israel critical comments. That`s not allowed

I`m sure there are a few on here who are convinced they could do a better job at a fraction of the cost. The trouble is they are usually otherwise engaged on a Saturday night.

He`s not leaving the BBC - he just isn`t having his Match of the Day contract renewed. He`ll be doing the World Cup in 2026 and may well continue to do live cup games etc. He might do the odd bits and pieces too, whether that is documentaries, other sports, radio etc.
I think Chapman is the obvious replacement and he should get the job if he wants it although there will be a few others in contention too no doubt. Both Lineker and Chapman are fine hosts and offer slightly different things. The best thing Lineker has done of course is to totally trigger the sad sack right wing losers (you know, the ones who claim everyone else are "snowflakes" but get offended by everyone, and who are all for "free speech" except when someone says something they font like).
