BBC Sport have a feature today asking readers to rank the 10 best centre backs in Premier League history. It`s linked to Virgil van Dijk`s recent form nullifying Mbappe and Haaland in successive games and it`s interesting to see the stats they have used to assess his career performances -
`The former Celtic player has won 148 of his 210 Premier League games for Liverpool, with his 70.5% win ratio - of centre-backs - only behind Manchester City defender John Stones and ex-Manchester United player Nemanja Vidic.
Only Vidic, Arsenal legend Tony Adams and Chelsea icon Terry have a higher clean sheet percentage than Van Dijk`s 43% at Liverpool (of players with 200 or more starts).
Van Dijk has won a higher percentage of duels and aerial duels than any other Premier League centre-back since 2006-07 (excluding those who have not been involved in many).
Of centre-backs to have played 3,500 minutes or more since January 2018, Van Dijk has been dribbled past less often per 90 minutes than anyone else. On average a player gets past him once every seven games (it has only happened 29 times).`
Incidentally, the 10 CBs they are asking to be ranked are Kompany, Vidic, Campbell, Stones, van Dijk, Adams, Ferdinand, Terry, Carvalho and Stam.

Tony Adams is head and shoulders above Van Dijk and the rest of those on that list. They couldn`t lace his drinks far less his boots

Which stat did you use to measure that, r-s-p? Milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood? 😊😊😊

If he can be better than all those guys wearing a black bin bag to sweat out a hangover in training, imagine how good he`d have been if he was trying.
Anyway. Nice to see you have a pop at someone who battled alcoholism through much of his career. Classless

I`m sorry you took it that way as that was not the intention. Your pun on `lace` wasn`t exactly blameless but that`s the politically correct world we live in. I`ve great admiration for what Tony Adams has done to overcome his problems and help others.

The season with Carvalho and Terry together when Chelsea won the title under Mourinho was incredible.
15 conceeded in 38 games at that level is absolutely frightening and i think there was a run of nine consecutive league clean sheets in there as well at some point.
