 Micro shin pads

Anyone else noticed the alarming amount of Facebook adds for these quite frankly dangerous things?

Quite why any parent would dream of allowing their kids to use these things is totally beyond me

It`s the in thing these days the "shin pads" professionals use are tiny there for kids will want the same ones. It`s like I was coaching a kids team a few years ago and the team we were playing tried to make a sub and the wee guy didn`t have his football boots laced up etc etc. It all drops down from what they are on tv to grass roots.

c'mon the pars

there is a correlation between players who wear them and players who cry about being kicked and the referees needing to "protect them"

Understand kids having to wear shinpads as a protective piece of kit when growing up etc, but surely adults should get the choice? 😂 they aren’t going to stop a leg breaking challenge anyway, so if they get cuts/grazes then its on them……

My footballing career was stopped because of a compound tib and fib. Reason was I was late to the ground and didn’t have time to put the kit on and it was allowed in those days.
Could it have stopped the leg break. Potentially not.
Would it have stopped a career ending injury. Absolutely yes.

Many of the modern sleeve ones are the bare minimum to achieve compliance with no real intention of protection. They really aren’t of much protective use for kids.

Some youth clubs started banning them a while ago.

Saw a referee a few weeks ago bring the boys in at 9-a-side prior to kickoff and produced a proper shinguard which had been pretty much snapped in half from a tackle.

Visual aid seemed to have the desired effect, don`t think any of them will be thinking of wearing the micro ones anymore.......will need to be content with doing a Freddy Krueger job on the back of their socks ;-)

After watching Anthony Gordon`s acrobatics in last night`s game, it`s an Oscar he`s needing because they were nowhere near his shin pads!

Wouldn`t help when Virgil smashes him in the side of his head with his shoulder. Should have been off for that

Or was it Gordon running into him to try get another Liverpool player booked? Got two booked from his diving antics last night……zero sympathy for the guy when things like this happen to him as he’s a cheat himself

Considering Van Dijk ran in from his rear diagonal and threw his should into him I don`t think Gordon can be blamed there. 100% dirty play
