Raith might have done a decent deal here, more money to get a decent manager in.

Supposed to be Stevenson as player/manager, but maybe Potter again?

Robson is a great appointment for them…was at Aberdeen and knows what needs done where we look at a league 1 manager with 30 months experience part time and all is good!!!!

Only 12 wins out of 40 games when he was given the job permanently.

BBC report says
“Aberdeen were eighth in the top flight when Robson was dismissed 11 months ago after a year in charge.”
“Initially, he led them to third place and group stage European football - as well as the League Cup final - but poor league form ultimately cost him.”
“Prior to his management career, he played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Dundee United, Celtic and Middlesbrough, as well as 17 times for Scotland.”

He had a brilliant run initially there but something went wrong and he was unable to fix it. Rovers will be hoping they have the same start as Aberdeen did under him. It`s a long deal so it might bite them.

So the guy with 11 months experience who failed at his last job, is better than the guy with 30 months experience who currently has his team in their highest league position?

Theres a massive difference between managing in the Premiership and Europe than in League 1……he was also their u18s manager for years before stepping up. Had a good playing career to add to that as well.

Good players don`t always make good managers.
While there may be a difference between managing in the premiership and league 1, Robson failed, with pretty much the same credentials and pathway as McPake.....
I think any managerial appointment is a huge risk.

I still think he is a better appointment than tidser buffy.. just my opinion though. Premier league s we know is alot harder than the championship which is also a huge step up from league 1 where kelty hearts are

It may be a better league but you also have better fulltime players, who you can coach and work with everyday.
Robson would never have been near the Aberdeen job based on his cv if he hadn’t been a youth coach there. His caretaker record is very good, but his record once being made permanent manager is absolutely dreadful.

Can’t help but feel it’s a steady appointment for Raith, and one that I would have been happy with here.
Robson did a good job with Aberdeen initially and had a good reputation working with the youths there, so certainly worth the punt.

The same pathway as McPake? He was at Aberdeen for 6 years as a youth coach before getting temp control then full control of the team. Which he then led to 3rd in the Prem, Europe and a Cup Final. 8th place may have been a bit bad looking, but look at the likes of Hearts and Kilmarnock this year…..every team that qualifies for Europa (outside the OF) generally struggle the next year in league.

Yeh. Youth job, take over as interim, bit of success. Get job full time, some success, get own players in and stink the place out. So a similar pathway, and length of time in the jobs... McPake moved onto us, Robson now onto the wee team..
Aberdeen fans wanted Robson binned long before he was.
It might work out, it might not. However, Raith fans I know are neither excited or upset about it. Most feel it`s a meh appointment.

Who`s to say Robson would come here, if results go against us we will be 7 and 8 points behind our closest challengers, with a board he doesn`t know ?
