Will always remember him playing in the John Lunn testimonial game at EEP. When Scotland produced world class players.

Legend gets banded about too often but we`ve just one here. Scotland`s greatest ever striker surely. Was actually surprised that he was 84, thought he was older.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

a Scottish Ballon D`or winner. Incredible career.

Sadly as said above his latter years were blighted by horrible illness. May he and his family/loved ones now be at peace.

Yes, Denis was the true star of the Scottish team who made all the difference when he was in the team. One of those very special players that you would gladly pay your hard earned shekels to see. Made me proud to be Scottish and like others have said, the world seems just a wee bit emptier with his passing. Thanks for the great memories Denis.

I remember this game too. The starting line-ups were different from those advertised in the programme:
Ricky (Dick) Campbell, Andy Penman & George McLean started in place of Scott, Shaw & Sinclair for the Pars.
Ally Hunter & Derek Parlane started in place of Kennedy & Deans.
There were lots of subs too:
Alan Evans, Kenny Watson, Alan Reid, Gordon Forrest, Ian Campbell & Kenny Davidson came on for the Pars
Peter McCloy, Willie Mathieson, Jim Brogan, Derek Johnstone, Jimmy Bone, Dixie Deans & Stewart Kennedy for the Old Firm.

3-3 draw.
McLean, Edwards & Ford scored for Pars
Smith, Parlane & Denis Law with a penalty.
Pars won 4-3 in a penalty shoot out.

RIP Denis Law. Legend.

The ONLY Scottish footballer to win the European Footballer of the Year. A brilliant striker, scorer of so many goals at a time when protection from referees was practically non-existent, Law looked after himself on the pitch, often getting his retaliation in first. ๐Ÿ˜€

It`s incredible to think that he wasn`t selected to play for Scotland for about 4 years because there was a belief that players who played in England didn`t give 100% for the national team - not an accusation that could be levelled at Denis. He tried to strangle Celtic`s goalkeeper, Frank Haffey, for singing in the bath after that humiliating 9-3 defeat at Wembley in 1963. Some of the selectors also believed that Law and Jim Baxter couldn`t play in the same team. ๐Ÿ™„

I was at John Lunn`s testimonial but my memory isn`t a patch on Dart`s. I do remember Law scoring from the spot. Was he the player who played 45 mins for each side?

R.I.P. Denis. When will we see your like again?

Not your average Sunday League player.

Another very sad loss.

My ex pat buddy in Cheshire lived in the same street for a few years before DL decided to move to another affluent area. Apparently he regretted it later.

Apparently he was careful with his pennies, in true Aberdonian fashion - I suspect thatโ€™s more myth than reality.

R.I.P a true legend.

My favourite player, I had the pleasure of meeting him at Edinburgh airport and he asked what and where I was going, I said I was there to meet a former colleague of yours. He asked who it was and I told him, Denis went up in my estimation as a person and not just a player. He could have said Jimmy who but he did not he went on to tell me that he asked Jimmy when he was in Australia to go on a radio show with him as George Best went a miss. Jimmy said who would want to listen to an old man like me, Denis replied me, Jimmy I would like to listen to you.

R.I.P. Denis

I was also at the game. My memory of the penalty was that Denis took a blatant dive in the box, but 11000 fans were desperate for him to score and were delighted that the ref played his part.

Denis was set to go into the FA cup record books having scored 6 goals for Man. City v Luton in 1961, then the game was abandoned with 20 minutes left to play due to the awful conditions.

To add insult to injury they lost the rescheduled tie 3-1โ€ฆโ€ฆ..guess who scored Cityโ€™s goal !!!
