I know some posters refuse to watch the CL for various reasons. I`m old enough to remember the old European Champions Cup, which I much preferred. I was very sceptical of the new format when it was announced. It seemed complicated and cumbersome and just an excuse to admit another 4 clubs that hadn`t won their domestic championship. I`ve been forced to re-evaluate my opinion. With one round of the first phase to go, there are plenty of games where teams have everything to play for.

think it`s been a pretty refreshing change. The "draw" seemed to do some interesting fixture pairings (PSG vs City) but each team played 2 teams from each pot so should all work out fairley even in the end.

I haven`t got a scooby what`s going on but I`ve found myself watching games and highlights shows for the first time in years. Some of the games are crazy!

Think it is better in its new format. More big games but also more of an opportunity for smaller sides to progress with a bit of luck.

Thumbs down from me.
There are far too many games right now, and it`s having a huge impact in terms player welfare and injuries.
We should be looking to have fewer matches. Not more.

I can`t argue with that, Bandy, but we both know there`s no chance of that happening. More games mean more money for the top clubs and that`s the only criterion those running the game consider.

It`s a load of nonsense, I`ve found that I don`t watch any of the games, not even bothered to look at the results this season

More games equals more money for the clubs and more money for the players.
Players can’t have it both ways. They can’t demand staggering salaries and then complain about the number of games.
Have bigger squads. Look at Chelsea. The whole team is changed for the European competition.

Love the new format. That group stage stuff had become absolutely dire. Same teams playing each other all the time.

Totally agree, the new format is a refreshing change, allows few mistakes and i would expect the tactically astute and hard working managers/coaches to rise to the top.
I enjoy the jeopardy of the one off encounter and its great to have almost wall to wall midweek football to enjoy.

Playing 2 games of football a week is hardly working down the mines or even working full time in a warehouse or supermarket.

If they are playing two games, there won’t be much training, other than working on set pieces, shooting drills etc.
I would rather play than train.

It’s certainly more interesting in my eyes. I used to avoid the group stages on the whole as they were tediously boring and predictable but at least this season has thrown up some interesting results and given the clubs that don’t usually stand a chance some hope.
I particularly like the single game format so it stops the away team just playing for a draw knowing they would win a return leg.

And they don’t even play the 90 minutes they are meant to! 😂 bunch of primadonas these days! The “big clubs” can easily afford to have bigger squads and the top youngsters in the country, they just don’t want to upset their superstars.
Liverpool have been a good example of squad rotation and promoting youth in the last couple of years and not been unsuccessful either.

The new format has definitely increased the jeopardy, but if PSG or Man City don`t qualify, look forward to super league rumours coming back , as the big teams don`t want Cellic etc in the latter stages
