FIFA said on Thursday it will review a proposal to expand the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams to mark the centenary of the sport`s marquee event.
The 2030 World Cup will be held in Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, where the inaugural edition was staged, set to host three games.
The World Cup has already been expanded from 32 to 48 teams for next year`s edition in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
"A proposal to analyze a 64-team FIFA World Cup to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup in 2030 was spontaneously raised by a FIFA Council member in the `miscellaneous` agenda item near the end of the FIFA Council meeting held on March 5, 2025,"

Your title sums it up. It’s sadly all about money for FIFA.
It`s bloody tough being a legend

I cans see them going for it, Salton. More teams means more $$$. That`s all those running FIFA are interested in. 😟
So much for the guardians of the Beautiful Game.
Not your average Sunday League player.

There is going to be a half time show at the next world cup final extending the half time break up to 30 minutes.

64 is better than 48 I suppose, but in terms of quality the World Cup should be 32 teams and the Euros 16. All the faffing about with 3rd place qualifiers and stuff is a nonsense, even if it does make it theoretically easier for us to get out a group (closest we came was the 24 team World Cup in Italy in 1990).

So much for removing the corruption from FIFA……football these days is all about the sponsorship money and not the fans.

Also means the gap between the top and everyone else will continue to widen.
More games, will lead to more injuries, which will lead to top teams having larger squads, which means more top players will be on the bench for `big` clubs rather than playing regularly for `wee` clubs.
The direction football is going definitely isn`t for me.

64 Teams WOW
Should just go to straight knock-out everyone in the POT and draw the teams round by round - the winners would still play 7 games if it was knock out all the way
Based on the fact they`ll no doubt have long drawn out group stages it could be the first world cup where the winners have to play about 10 games to win it !
