Josh Cooper kicked off for the visitors playing into the bright Spring sun and forced one corner after the other within the first 45 seconds. First opportunity however came on nine minutes when a short taken free kick deep down the left was touched by Joe Chalmers for Cooper to send an inviting ball to the left post, Taylor Sutherland got a flick on it but the ball travelled outside the far post.

Thirteenth minute proved unlucky for John Tod. He started the move on the left, picking out his brother who sent the ball on for Cooper to cut back for John in the centre of the box but his effort went wide right. Three more minutes on and a Taylor Sutherland run up the right ended with keeper Jack Wills having to beat away a useful shot.

Wills held an Andrew Tod shot in 33 minutes and six minutes later a Cooper cut back for Andrew was kept out by the keeper’s outstretched leg. John Tod smashed an opportunity wide left and Cooper cleared the bat with yet another chance.

It has been a very open first half, Dunfermline possibly the better in terms of possession and threat but Queen’s Park dangerous when they got near Deniz Mehmet’s box. That said the Pars keeper had no saves to make in the first 45 minutes. The Fifers must felt they should have been ahead at the break but the second half could still go either way.

What round was that? 2nd? Semi? Did we win it last year or the year before?

No Owen Hampson I see. Injured or useless? If not injured then I would have thought he`d have got some game time to show what he can do.

Second half -
Queen’s Park opened the half with greater intent but it was the goalpost that kept Cooper off the scoresheet on 56 minutes. An impressive move up the left by the Tod brothers teed up the former Morton youth, his strike was good but just unlucky not to net.

Freddie Rowe came on for Jake Sutherland for the final half hour before a surging run by Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia midway through the half, produced the hosts best chance of the match so far. The right back’s shot was pushed away by Mehmet but Sowa collected and in the follow up he was booked for diving in the box.

Next T Sutherland cut back from the right for A Tod to create another Dunfermline chance but the keeper held Cooper’s low shot to the left post. In 77 Cooper sent Sutherland down the left and Queens were relieved as A Tod’s attempt deflected over for a corner. Sam Young was on the end of Chalmers delivery but his header went over the top.

It was going to take a piece of magic to break the deadlock and it was Josh COOPER who pulled the rabbit out the hat. After being forced right along the edge of the Queens box he exchanged the ball with Hoggan before playing a clever one two off Chalmers to get himself in on the right side to finish. 0-1

Queen’s Park put in a great effort in search of an equaliser. Sub Connor Falls was denied by a great last ditch block and from the resultant corner the ball was miraculously kept out in the goalmouth scramble.

The pressure was completely relieved in the first minute of added time, when COOPER met sub Lucas Fyfe’s pass to drive the ball into the bottom right of the Queen’s goal. 0-2

Dunfermline through to their third Reserve Cup final in a row. They await the winners of the other semi final between Kilmarnock and Queen of the South.

QUEEN’S PARK: Jack Wills: Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia, Magnus McKenzie, Zach Mauchin, Jay Garva, Michael Collie (c), Timam Scott, Jadan Raymond (Jamie Bradley 57), Reece Evans (Josiah Sowa 57), Aiden McGinlay (Connor Falls 75), Anthony Hinds (Ross McLean HT)
SUBS NOT USED: Leo Fisher, Zach Balfour (GK)
YELLOW CARD: McKenzie (29), Sowa (69)

DUNFERMLINE: Deniz Mehmet: Liam Hoggan, Craig Clay (c), Sam Young, John Tod: Omar Taylor-Clarke, Joe Chalmers, Josh Cooper: Jake Sutherland (Freddie Rowe 60), Taylor Sutherland (Lucas Fyfe 82), Andrew Tod
SUBS NOT USED: Ewan McLeod, Mark Beveridge, Thomas Margetts (GK)
SCORER: Cooper (80, 90+1)

Hampson came on as a second-half sub last Friday but was pretty anonymous but he`s now away with the Welsh under-21s presumably.

That`s very impressive is it not, 3 finals in a row. You`d think The Old Firm and other SPL sides would dominate the reserve league, or am I missing something?

Kizmasrightfoot: think that was the semi final. Hampson has probably already joined the Welsh U21 squad as he was called up.

Not all the Premiership sides, including the OF, choose to take part in the Reserve Cup for some reason but we did beat Dundee and Dundee United in earlier rounds and could meet Killie in the final. Their semi against QOS is next Tuesday.

There are only 6 teams in the reserve league. Queens Park, Dundee, QOTS, Kilmarnock, Livingston and ourselves. I think there were a couple more in the cup but none of the bigger clubs enter sides these days.

ETA There were 12 teams in the cup this year

The way the Reserve Cup works is that there are 3 sections of 4 teams each. Each team just plays the others once. Our section included Dundee, Dundee United and Falkirk. We won all three games, Falkirk at home and the two Dundee teams away. The section leaders (ourselves, QP and QOS) and the best-placed runners-up (Killie) qualified for the semi-finals.
