From chat with NL on COWS -
Midfielder David Wotherspoon is back on the training ground, Chris Kane’s calf strain is being assessed and having recovered from a hamstring injury, Tashan Oakley-Boothe should be available for training on Friday. Joe Chalmers is still recovering from his hamstring injury. He missed the game last weekend with a little tear at the top of the tendon but could be available to play Partick Thistle a week on Saturday. Michael O’Halloran is still not ready. Kieran Nwenga had an injection in his groin last week so he needs to let that settle before he comes back to training. Striker Connor Young is out with a nasty ankle sprain, it’s a bad one added Neil:- “It was a strange one, you know when you look at it on the video, he sort of rolled the ankle in whatever way he’s landed on it, he’s twisted it badly. It’s a shame because we like him a lot, we think he’s a real goal threat.”
That is a lengthy injury list and Neil commented:-
“It’s unbelievable, a lot of senior players obviously losing Chris and Joe at the weekend was a blow after them playing so well against Livi on the Wednesday. I think it’s just part and parcel of the level that we’re at. I want them, if I’m here next year, to be in a lot better condition and a lot more robust for the rigours ahead of the season. I don’t believe the players should be getting hamstring injuries 50-60 minutes into a game, I really don’t. There’s a lot of things at their disposal now that wasn’t before. So for me, unless there’s an old condition in there or the player had a little problem with it before, which again we have no evidence of, I don’t think they should be getting hamstrings at that stage of the game. I’m just old fashioned that way.”
So in addition to David Wotherspoon and Tashan Oakley-Boothe coming into contention there are two others who could make the squad for Hampden. Victor Wanyama’s now training away and “starting to look a lot better” according to Neil and Kane Ritchie-Hosler trained today so he should be available for the squad as well. Commenting on Ritchie-Hosler who has been out since mid February, Neil said:-
“I’ve seen clips of him playing, he stood out in the game at Firhill where w e won 4-1. So he’s obviously got that attacking thrust that we’ve missed, a bit of pace in the wide areas. He’s quite a direct runner and gets you up the pitch quickly. It would be difficult to think about him starting because he’s been out for so long, but certainly to have him backing in and around it, it could be a bonus for us going forward.”
Clearly Chris Kane’s game time needs managed but his manager is sympathetic to not only him:- “We had a feeling after Wednesday, not just for Chris but for a few of them, because they put so much into the game physically. And that’s the way you have to play. What we need to do is get more robust as we go along so we can manage the games and the recovery better. But I did have a worry after Wednesday that there would have been a bit of a downturn from the exertions going into the Hamilton game. In fairness to the players, they looked fit enough and kept going right to the end. They just looked a little bit lacking a bit of sharpness around the box in particular, but I thought overall it was a decent performance and we didn’t get what we deserved really.”

Really hope we can get 60 mins from Kane tomorrow or at worst the last half hour. We seriously need to manage Kane’s injury and hope he can play between now and the end of the season. Yeboah is a massive downgrade and if Kane cannot manage I’d rather see Wotherspoon or Cooper playing behind McCann. I’m interested to see Hampson get a chance but that’s a gamble with the situation we’re in.
Hopefully Ritchie-Hosler, Wotherspoon and Ngenwya will have important parts to play. For me, tomorrow is an absolute must win.

Tomorrow is absolutely crucial, if QP win we aren`t catching them with 3 games left. If Kane is even semi fit to start the game or come on later I`d risk it. The likelihood of both Airdrie and Hamilton getting wins against Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle respectively is pretty low (both away) so we have to take advantage.

If Kane’s not fit to start we really need to get Cooper in behind McCann and bin Yeboah.

Surely Yeboah can`t start ahead of Cooper. Shame about Connor Young, though. He would be a great asset at this stage of the season, especially with the doubts about Chris Kane.

Should Yeboah start tomorrow, it will undoubtedly games lost in my opinion. His signing has proven to be a calamity, as he has contributed nothing of value. I hope Kane is able to play, as his presence elevates the performance of those around him. In the event that he cannot play, I hope that someone like Cooper will step in.
I feel bad for my negativity towards Yeboah, yet he has offered little to instill in me any confidence in his ability to contribute. I would be delighted if he were to play and ultimately prove me wrong; however, based on the majority of matches I have watched him in, his performance has been dismal. I don’t understand how an individual with little talent beyond the capacity for relentless running finds themselves at a club like Bristol City.

The manager at Bristol City probably looks at Yeboah the same way our managers have looked at McCann and thinks they can be the one that turns the guy into a player

Yeboah is only 18 but I think it`s fair to say he hasn`t fulfilled his potential. Bristol City gave him a three-year contract in 2023 when their manager was the very experienced Nigel Pearson. Doncaster Rovers` manager Grant McCann spoke very highly of him when he took him on loan at the start of this season but he was recalled by Bristol in January prior to coming here. The only goals he has scored have been for Bath City in the National League South.

They obviously have hopes for him Eck given his age.
He is rapid though.

I watched an interview with Grant McCann when he took him on loan to Doncaster. They had obviously watched him a few times and been impressed by his pace, power and ability to press; nothing about his goalscoring ability though!

Typical that our two best players against Livingston injured themselves during the game.
Todd will be a bit sharper this week, if Kane is not fit I’d play Todd behind McCann. Wish we’d got another striker in January, lack of firepower could be what sends us down.
Hopefully it’s a bit of mind games from Lennon regarding Kane and he’s ready to go.
Will be good to see KRH as well. Sounds like he’s 30mins at best though.

I`m a bit mystified by some injuries.
Wotherspoon and O`Halloran injured, doing what?
Kane, he`s our most committed player, by far our most streetwise ,and if he doesn`t play it`s hard to see how we can score. If he didn`t have long term injury problems he wouldn`t be playing in the Championship.

Although worrying thing is he’s talking about players who everyone is expecting to move on. Maybe it’s just dangling a fake carrot…..

I think tomorrows game might suit him and while his decision making has been poor, he`s trying like a bear, I hope it turns for the kid because regardless of what you think of his ability he`s working hard enough.

Fao Berkey. Its already been said that he`s only going to stay if we avoid relegation. If we go down, he`s offski. I thought everyone was aware of this. Anyway, you know now.
It`s a moot point anyway as we`re staying up. I have no doubt about this (touch wood).

McCann is the only option we have up front really if Kane is unfit. Frustrating as McCann performs better with Kane in the team.
I’d much rather see Cooper start over Yeboah.
I’d probably rather see Bene have a shot up front again as well if it meant Yeboah stayed on the bench.

Can’t play anybody but McCann upfront as that would mean Yeboah.
Out of the two McCann starts.
It really is a massive area we need to address in the summer.
Wouldn’t mind if we could get an hour out of Kane and then replace him with Cooper to go behind McCann or if Kane isn’t fit to start I’d go with Cooper behind McCann and get Kane in for last half hour.
Don’t want Yeboah anywhere near the squad tbh.

Other than posters on forums, I have never heard this being said by anyone connected with the club. I have heard Lennon say the contract is only until the end of the season and it will be “reassessed” then, he’s spoken of loving being back involved….but at no point have I heard, officially, that he’ll be gone if we go down.

Unfortunately we can`t afford to be content with players who can only contribute by putting a bit of effort in. McCann is in the same boat effort should be a minimum requirement for every player. We need players with the ability to compete at this level and unfortunately a few of this lot have had more than enough chances at this level and have proved they don`t have the required ability to cut it in the championship.
We aim to be top 4 and competing to get promoted next year unfortunately a vast majority of this team won`t get us to that level.

Still hamstrung by the ludicrous decision to put Sutherland and Dapo out on loan. I see something in both of them and we could really do with them as options. Before anyone jumps down my throat with "they`re not ready" " need game time elsewhere" etc. There is no way they are worse than Yeboah or McCann. The whole issue was for years there was zero competition for positions.....and yet here we are at a critical point in not only the season but our future cobbling a team together with no idea where the vital goals may come from.

Mebude isn’t good enough either apart form his cameo debut at Falkirk he’s not really done much.
I said elsewhere that I would rather have kept Taylor Sutherland and given him an opportunity instead of loaning him out and bringing in Yeboah. Sutherland looks far more likely to contribute to the team than Yeboah has and it’s a missed opportunity given our striker situation.
Saying that just watch Yeboah come on and score the winner today 😂

Why not just play Cooper up front? I`ve already mentioned that Arsenal did something similar a month or so ago. They didn`t have many strikers fit so he played a midfielder up front and it paid off with a few goals. Sometimes you have to think outside the box, give it a try and see what happens.

The players should be above it. In fact tjey should just stay clear of the forums.
We all know they dont though, and it is bound to have an affect.
I worry about Yeboah. 18 yrs old, just starting his carreer. He gets utterly destroyed on here.
Im sure Lennon will help him ignore it and focus on his game, and development, but he shouldn`t have to.
