With our owners wanting to prove their analytics model works - we are their guinea pig. (I`m delighted)
So what do we think... will they use analytics to prove:
(a) Put a squad of analysed senior & junior players together improves team performance and results ( promotion to premier)
(b) Catch them young, buy at a low price ( eg Bray) and sell them on gives you the money to build long term and then get promotion
(c) Something in between
and what do we think that means for next season ? >>>
I hope that the focus (most likely) on quick promotion doesn`t mean the likes of the Sutherland brothers and the Tod brothers get left behind. There a few youngsters that could come on to good things. Perhaps we need to pay them a bit more and with the promise of the premiership coming in the next couple of seasons, see them `happy` to be loaned out.

Think it will be in between, we will definitely be signing a few high profile names, but I think the longterm will be mainly analytical type signings.

I thought the owners were keen on youth development, so I think it will be a case of looking for talent to develop. I would have thought this would involve analytics as one tool of several.

If this turns out to be the approach, it will be a disaster.

If we are promoted to the premier ( part of me doesn`t want to as I think our league is a better exciting league) ... we will be mainstream for them to promote the Ai/Analytics .... so I think we may have a mini AI next season on youth to sell and more importantly for them ... pay decent bucks on the squad - AND buy/sign a few big players.
What might be exciting for us fans is if they aren`t already playing in Scotland. That would get us and the press attention and I suspect with Gamdom they want the attention.
Hence the rumour of the £300k Bulgarian striker.
Lenny is one of a only few that can handle all of that - so happy days !

I think the key is to Keep Lennon he will have a big say in who comes for sure will be a mix of experienced playing and what the owners want

Lennon being Manager and not Head Coach may change the approach slightly. He’s not going to want to manage a team of potential players, we need experienced players mixed with young ones such as Young, Bray, Mullen etc…..
I’m sure these discussions have all taken place prior to him accepting the job.

Bot of both I think.
Very excited by all this, but I`m happy enough next season ((if we stay up) consolidating a bit.
Having Lennon as manager is superb, he will counterbalance things a bit, and crucially be able to start to build a squad that eventually will get us promoted and hopefully compete in the top flight.
I think it will be hard next season, in that whatever happens there has to be a big turnaround in players , we`ve lucked out with this season having 3 other abysmal teams.
Exciting times!

Yeah, I think there will be a balance to the squad. A few big names alongside other promising players either from lower leagues in Scotland, or exotic signings like the aforementioned mysterious “300k Bulgarian”.
No way Lennon would be managing a team with a midfield of Hampson, ‘Rivaldo’ and Oakley-Boothe.
He’ll want proven players who can win him games. I think 2 or 3 youngsters in amongst experienced players will be best for their development anyway.
As an aside, happened to Hampson? Think he played 5mins up at Aberdeen then never seen again.

I think it’ll be a bit of both, I don’t think Lennon is going to put his name to a squad of untried youngsters in the way that someone like Rhys McCabe necessarily would. Lennon will want a blend of youth, which has been brought in with analytics, but blended with experience players that he knows or that people he trusts (agents, scouts etc etc) know as well.
I noticed today that Jim Goodwin has announced that Declan Gallagher & Lewis Moult won’t be getting new contracts at Dundee United. I would suspect that Lennon would like someone in the mould of Gallagher (or both) in his squad to build on for a season or two, to give his squad the solid, experienced foundation to build on and to help bring on younger players that have been identified, and the owners will understand stand this as they try and work together.

My personal opinion is that this rumour about the Bulgarian striker for £300k has been pulled from thin air and is bull$hit.
Probably came from the fact the owners own a Bulgarian team and are rebuilding in the summer.
We won’t be spending £300k on an unknown Bulgarian.

Any successful football team, or any other sport for that matter, needs balance, so I would expect a mixture of proven professionals at this level or above, coupled with some promising, younger players.

Remember that the analytics doesn`t just target youngsters , the data is there to identify what players are available to fit into the designated system agreed by the manager
Then the players that are available are scouted and deemed whether they fit into the budget that will be available to spend and indeed would fit into a squad that would work as a team, personality, temperament etc.

Maybe I`m oversimplifying but surely the analytics are used to target players who will be successful at the club, resulting in potential promotion? I`d imagine if those analytics showed up two players with similar "scores" but one is 22 and one is 32 that the 22 year old would be selected on the grounds of potential future sale value.
I imagine the analytics are more significant that the type you see in Football Manager though. They`ll potentially be identifying things that someone just watching in the stands won`t notice.

Really good podcast on the price of football recently. It was with the American majority stakeholder of Dorking. he was talking about the challenge of getting players from the states over to sign for Dorking and listed the issue behind it and I was thinking I wonder if we have come across similar under the Germans or new board. nd it wasn`t about the player unwilling to sign for Dorking.

I see Declan Gallagher is leaving Dundee Utd on a free.
Played 36 games this season and been one of there top players, wonder if Lennon would be interested in some experience with him alongside Mullen and potentially Bene.
Just noticed Scott Tiffoney and Rory MacKenzie both out of contract too.

We would need a `Designated Survivor` type arrangement where they are never all allowed to be on the same night out.

I posted this earlier in the week on here. I suspect Gallagher will be of interest to Lennon. He’s exactly the sort of player he’ll want at the back

There is certainly more than enough young talent within the reserve team who should be knocking on Lennons door during the summer, mixed with experience or is the way to go.

3 or 4 premier experienced pros. 2 or 3 wider experienced ones. And a group of hungry home grown or bought youngsters.
We will have money to pay a decent wage.
Hopefully Tobi is one of the young ones.
I would be happy to have Fogarty on another season loan deal
Clay as a solid squad player on a years deal.
In this league add a quality winger (or two ideally) and a forward with anticipation ( and pace) and with Lenny’s knowledge we will be up there or thereabouts ( top 2)
