 Bournemouth - Man Utd

How on earth VAR thought Evanilsons yellow should be changed to a red is beyond me.

You can clearly see he’s slipped and it wasn’t intentional at all.

Commentators said they were listening to the VAR conversation and not once did they mention the fact that he slipped.

Ridiculous decision.

I think it`s a mandate that the refs have to help the Sky 6 in anyway they can. They`ll probably get a softer than marshmallow penalty at some point.

I haven`t seen the incident but hasn`t `intention` been taken out of the equation now when it comes to deciding what constitutes a foul?

It was an horrendous challenge which he could have pulled out of

You can’t pull out a challenge if you slip. Completely unintentional.

I never understood why they paid 75 million for that Hjoiland kid. He`s always looked average at best and was hardly a prolific scorer when they signed him. I think they paid all that money because his surname sounds a bit like Man City`s goal scoring machine.

The officials should get the 3 match ban. Incompetent.

Unsurprising. re: Evanilson`s red., honking decision. What really irks me is the why VAR is being used. The `clear and obvious` standard is being twisted, and the VAR officials use the tools to find evidence that the on field decision `might` be correct - they don`t even try to make the correct decision.

On your point re: the Sky 6 I have a different view. I think broadcasters like to manufacture controversy to keep the `narrative` going between games. They need viewers for `Ref Watch` on Monday, `Ref`s Mic`d up` etc etc`. Controversial calls (and subsequent controversial opinions) are a great way to create interest and views. I think the controversy is more likely to be manufactured around `Sky 6` games because those teams have the most fans, so will generate the most views. I don`t think the calls necessarily have to be `for` the Big teams, they just have to involve the Big 6 . As a case in point, if anyone can tell me of big controversial call that`s gone in Arsenal`s favour this season, I`d love to hear it....the only one I can think of is a corner (from which they scored) that was wrongly awarded v Tottenham. I can think of plenty that went against them though - all of which generated a lot of noise and discussion (and therefore clicks and ad revenue)

I`m struggling to think of a rule change in my lifetime that has improved the game.

A goalkeeper on the bench maybe, but nothing else.

I think the pass back rule has improved things...that`s the only one I can think of.

I think that was the start of the downfall tbh, once they managed to get that through it just encouraged them to tinker.

I watch old games that pop up on youtube, a wee pass back to the goalie then everyone congregates on the halfway line and a nice big hoof up the park.

I really don`t think it improved the game one iota.

"What really irks me is the why VAR is being used"

VAR needs a reset. The "clear and obvious" stuff has never been implemented when it comes to offsides. Players toenail, drawing of multiple lines etc. last night 4 minutes of review even with Semi automated VAR (coming to EPL next season) to rule out arsenals equaliser. if it takes all that then the initial decision was not an "obvious" error.

Bletchley, did you not watch the Euro 92 knock out games? Denmark really took the p*** in that, passing it along the back line then back to Schmeichel who rolled it to a full back for then to start again.

It was overblown, those tactics wasted a couple of minutes at most.

The response to introduce a sweeping new law that fundamentally change the game and depecialise the role of the goalkeeper (they had to be more like outfield players) was reactionary.

Timewasting just became more prevalent in other areas of the game.

What bothers me about that one was that the decision wasn`t explained. It didn`t look like Merino was offside, but maybe a `blocker` was offside....deemed to be interfering with play.

You’re right Raymie, the tackle from Adam’s in the first half was a straight red they missed that as well
