 Wrexham, what now.

They`ve had 3 promotions in a row due to being very lucky with them A-list owner, but the English Championship is a different beast. It`s full of top teams with massive fan bases and is arguably the hardest league to gain promotion. It`s usually the teams with the parachute payment that go back up (apart from Luton lol).

Deadpool is minted but not that minted, and the Sunny guy has but a fraction of Deadpool`s wealth.

They are going to need further investment from elsewhere. They`ve spent a lot on wages but have been very savvy by not paying big transfer fees.

Now the owners have to accept it highly unlikely that it will be 4 promotions in a row. This season will be about staying up but even that task will need a massive turnaround in the squad. I think they have a decent chance of signing Jamie Vardy but they`ll need more than that. It could take 4 or 5 transfer windows to get a squad capable of promotion.

I reckon to eventually go up to the land of dreams they`ll need investment that is more than the parachute payment for as long as it takes to get promotion, which may never happen. At some point they`ll probably have to change managers.

If they don`t go up within 3 - 5 years I reckon that Deadpool will say `enough enough` as he`s not a bottomless pit of money.

Thoughts?

Magpies fan.
Mens tennis fan.
Alternative rock fan.
Not a fan of much else.

Think you`d be surprised how much Ryan Reynolds is worth. He sold a stake in a mobile phone business for over 300 million dollars five years ago. He also has significant investments in other tech businesses which are valued in the billions.

Wrexham are also running close to self sustainability as well I think. Pretty sure they put out a figures update the other month saying they wad repaid the directors and were running off their income via normal revenue and not additional investment. Amazon must have given them a decent sum for their documentaries and they sell out most weeks.

What the owners have done is incredible to create interest in them and boost their revenues by hitting markets that most League 1 & 2 clubs could only dream of. Pretty incredible fear to be fair and yeah Reynolds is worth a lot more than folk think.

This isn’t another Gretna, put it that way.

Wrexham remind me a bit of Kelty. Will only get so far then will struggle and will eventually drop back as attendances can’t support the investment in the team required and the owners don’t want a mid ranking team in the championship as it might not be as interesting for the Documentary etc.

They have done well and have a good manager who hasn’t been been afraid to sideline players who have done really well for them in the lower leagues but can’t cut it at the higher level such as mullins. Something we didn’t do when we came up.

Would be great to see them do well but they will need to invest a lot more money now, this will be interesting to see if they are prepared to drop like £3-5m on a single player to get the right quality in to compete in the top of the league, they need to spend more this summer than they have spent in all previous seasons combined.

There is no PSR in Leagues One and Two down south but there is in the Championship and Premier League, so in a way the wealth or otherwise of their owners doesn`t matter so much.

Had the pleasure of driving Rob McElhenny, some of his MLB Baseball pals from Philadelphia and the documentary producer, on a Scottish golf tour not long after Wrexham’s promotion from League 2 this time last year. Had a few one to one chats with him and, between him and Ryan Reynolds, there is no shortage of wealth to invest. The expectation was to strongly consolidate in League 1 so promotion first time will, I think, be a big bonus putting them ahead of their planned progress. It was clear that Wrexham, not just the football club, had “got under his skin”. Hopefully we will experience something similar with James Bord.

Besides the fact they’re sponsored by two Hollywood actors, they’ve also attracted a lot of massive sponsors that will be bringing a bucket load of money to the club. Let’s not forget that Bournemouth were able to get to the Premier League with a small stadium too.

Being a Welsh club in England, I’d love to see them going from strength to strength. It’s nice to see the fans who’ve followed Wrexham through thick and thin all their days finally see glory.

I think we should have a friendly with Wrexham in the pre season.

Stockport`s rise has been a lot more impressive than Wrexham`s IMO. Hope they can get ovet the line in then playoffs.
