 Departing Players - Appreciation
Topic Originator: DBA
Date:   Fri 9 May 13:55

Think it`s worthwhile paying tribute to some of the players departing the club this month, with a wee look back at their time at the club.

First up, Aaron Comrie. 212 appearances with 8 goals. Only 5 players have played more games for us since the turn of the century (Mason, Wilson, Thomson, Crawford, Cardle). He`s rarely had a bad game, and started every game hes been fit for since December 23. His most memorable goal was in the 4-1 win v Raith in Feb-21. He only picked up 10 yellow cards in that time, plus 1 red.

Joe Chalmers. Leaves with the unwanted statistic that, since the turn of the century, he`s played the most games of an outfield player without scoring a goal. 0 in 125 appearance. Closest behind him is Aaron Labonte on 90. He did get 23 assists in his time, being an important part of the League 1 winning season.

Craig Wighton. Leaves the club with a record of 35 goals in 119 appearance, 1 goal short of Ryan Wallace in the same number of games. Of the 119 games, he only lasted 90 mins in 31 of them, and has spent 2 separate loan spells away from the club in his 4.5 years with the Pars. Scored a double on his debut against Alloa in Feb-21 and got his last Pars goal in a 1-1 draw with Arbroath in Dec-23.

Rhys Breen. Played 63 times for the club, chipping in with 5 goals - his last in the 2-0 win v Falkirk in March 23. Made his full debut next to Vytas Gaspuitis in a 4-2 defeat at Arbroath, and didn`t fully cement a place in the team until he was alongside Bene in League 1.

Michael O`Halloran. Made 39 appearances with 1 goal in his 2 years at the club. He was an unused sub more times that he started (22 v 21). His only goal came in a 3-1 victory against Morton in Sept-23.

For the other permanent departures, David Wotherspoon player 37, scored once. Craig Clay played 20 times with no goals and Omar Taylor-Clarke only made 3 appearances, with his only start being his debut in the 2-0 Challenge Cup defeat to Livingston.

I wish all the players the very best in wherever they end up, as long as they`re below the Pars!

Good luck to all of them. Sometimes, for whatever reason, things just don`t work out the way everyone hoped they would.

Have to admit that I have very few complaints about the release list other than Aaron Comrie. There have been a few speculations about his departure but, regardless, he has been a fantastic servant to the club and should really have been in line to be club captain.

It’s a shame that on a thread about APPRECIATING the players, the first comment about Joe Chalmers is a negative, highlighting how he hasn’t scored. A bit tasteless and didn’t need mentioning imo considering all his other contributions.

Did Chalmers not score one goal in the league cup? Could have sworn he scored against Edinburgh City?

We didn`t play Edinburgh City in the League Cup. We played them in the Scottish Cup when Mebude and Todd scored the goals.

Not this season. I’m sure we played them last season (or season before) and won comfortably with Chalmers scoring

Ross, I`ve had a look and our LC group in 2023/24 included Raith, Annan, Killie and Albion Rovers. In 22/23 it was East Fife, Buckie, Ross County and Alloa. I don`t think Joe scored in any of these games. It`s been mentioned quite often that he had never scored for the Pars.

Pars won 2-1, Raymie, and our goals were scored by Taylor Sutherland and Todorov.

Special shout for Comrie for his consistency over the years. Also for Wighton who was top scorer in the League One title campaign and Chalmers who had most assists that season.

Personally I think Comrie was worth a new contract, but if we’re going to be playing with wing backs then we maybe need someone better going forward.

Best of luck to all the players released and hope they get new clubs sorted quickly.

Good luck to all, the first 3 in particular, plenty good moments too, always had a soft spot for Chalmers, I like a player with a sweet foot

Aaron should get a good Championship team I think, the other 2 I would imagine it`s now a decent part time now, I forgot how many goals Wighton scored! Again, he`s suffered with injury.

Rhys Breen, his career has been dominated by injuries, and I see that at Annan, he hasn`t been in the squad, so assume that`s continued, football can be brutal, he`s a nice lad, and when he played was decent.

I think Chalmers scored in the penalty shoot-out in the League Cup at Stark`s Park in the first game of the 2023/24 season.

Comrie has been a very good player for us. Solid and dependable. Joe Chalmers has also been a great player for the club, would have been better in a better team but never hid, always looking for the ball. The young lads at the club really looked up to him as being a fantastic example of what they needed to do every day in training to be a good pro

Comrie was decent but we all know he’s away to a team. That’s all…Honestly who would anyone say well done to anyone of those players?

Some of them were key players when we won League 1. And none of the leaving players could be accused of lack of effort, even if quality was lacking.

Maybe don`t live so relentlessly in your negativity and look beyond the disaster of the season just finished.

Yep some of them were key players playing in league 1 and given extended contracts to play in the Chsmpionship..maybe they should have worked harder in training etc!
Appreciation thread for all those players who did nothing… bye bye.

If we had a good season then I would like to wish all the players going well done but after 2 seasons of rubbish and they know it then all the best. No need for a thread like this!

Whether you thought the players were good enough or not, they`ve had to put up with some amount of chaos this season in terms of management and ownership which isn`t easy in any business.

Our season is done, they secured our status when it looked bleak a couple months ago. I didn`t see any signs that they weren`t giving it 100%, it just didn`t work out, let`s thank them for their efforts and move on to the next chapter.

Call me what you want but a pars player appreciation thread where 14 players or more have been released is not to appreciate! It’s been brutal for the past 2 seasons and some of those players just didn’t look interested.

I don`t understand how you feel it`s OK for you to have a pop at players who can`t respond but, if anyone criticises you, you play the victim card and ask Admin to stop folk bullying you! It`s a bit childish is it not?
