The difference in quality between Livingston and Partick tonight is staggering. Livingston lightyears better, and they should be 4 or 5 up. Should be an absolute humping, and I`d be worried whoever is 11th in Premiership playing this team. Selfishly, two teams coming down, especially Ross County, would be disastrous for our changes of winning the title.

Maybe the extra games they had to play are taking their toll on Thistle.

Would much rather Livi stay in this league, whoever comes down will throw money at it.
I think Livi won`t have the budget next season, the parachute money will be gone (even though it`s a `mystery` how they fund themselves)

Livi are about to be taken over by Americans so would assume they’d have a decent budget.

Best scenario for me is that St Johnstone go straight down and Livi beat Dundee in a play off. Chances are only Ross County go down leaving us with them and Livi - 2 teams with nae fans and plenty money to field competitive teams. McDiarmid and Dens are also more enticing away games particularly if you live up north like myself.

I am pleased Livi won last night, on a football level they deserved to win . If the proposed new owners come in for them , things could change re the size of their support.

I think they will always have a relatively small support. Remember when Leishman guided them to 4th in the Premier League.
They had a decent home support but nothing spectacular and still a crap away one.

Not a fan when people say teams bring absolutely nothing to Scottish Football, as it’s just not correct.
Player Development - Hamilton in particular has had a well respected youth academy which has produced good talent in the likes of James McCarthy & James McCarthur.
Both clubs offer affordable access to professional football for fans and folk that are priced out of bigger club games. Hamilton are penalised by their location really and that those reside there or thereabouts align to the OF, there’s very little they can do that would make a material impact on that.
Livingston regularly punch above their wait and show that clubs with modest budgets can rise to the top flight, which provides motivation and inspiration for lower league clubs.
Fanbase is only one factor and multiple others should be considered. We have a rather big Fanbase but the team has done pretty much naff all the last couple of seasons.

Watching that game last night it was hard to understand how we managed to pick up 7 points in our four league games against Livi, more than against any other team. In fact, arguably our two best results, the 3-0 home win over them and the 4-1 win at Firhill, were achieved against these two teams. It`s a funny old game right enough.

I only caught 20 mins of the second half - and that possibly wasn’t indicative of the full game - but the standard of play at times, especially PT, was poor for two teams aspiring to the top tier.
The SPL side should be good enough to stay up - maybe ?

Berry - I eluded to Fanbase in my post above. To clarify - I have nothing against clubs with smaller fanbases, ours is small in comparison to a lot of clubs and credit to those fans who follow their teams. However, in terms of matchday experience, the number of travelling fans Livi and Ross County bring to EEP is very low resulting in a poor atmosphere. I`d rather see the east stand with 7-800 away fans in it than 3000 empty seats.

Livi hadn`t played since 2 May but that was Thistle`s third game since then and it showed. I think their squad is being stretched with guys playing who aren`t 100% fit, playing out of position, etc. I can`t see Ashcroft being fit for the second leg either so I would expect Livi to get through. They have a lot of experience in their ranks and I would expect them to give any of the Premiership sides a decent challenge.

This is why I like the format of the playoffs, Livingston have a clear advantage going into their tie, merited by the position they ended the season with. Partick have more to do because they finished a little lower, think it’s fair to be honest.
Got to earn your right to be in the PL so I’m not too bothered by the Prem team only getting the one tie.

I wasn`t suggesting the format of the play-offs was unfair but simply stating a fact, although you would have to question the spectacle of a relatively `fresh` team playing two legs against a relatively tired one. Maybe the runners-up in the Championship should just go straight in against the second-bottom side in the Premiership?

Livingston have been punching above their
weight for years. How do they do it? They
have very small support. In reality, they are
a lowland league team, yet they have been
between the Premiership and the Championship
for years.

If Livi were to go up they would need to have a grass pitch in place for the following season. Interesting to see how that would effect them in the long run.

Ross County on a dreadful run at the moment, think it`s 7 defeats on the spin, but would still fancy them against either team (assuming they finish 11th)
The gulf betweem them and Raith over the two games last season was huge. Thought it would be much closer.

I don`t watch much Premiership football but when I do see it I`m struck with how much more athletic, quick and alert the players generally are compared with players in the Championship.

I genuinely can`t remember JL being at Livi and being so successful. No idea why my brain locked up that memory.
He was more successful with them than he was with us. He took them through all the leagues to 3rd in the Premier league and eufa cup football.
That`s really pickled my head.

We want Livi to stay down. 2 clubs with parachute payments would hinder any potential promotion push. Especially Ross County with their trove of treasures.
