He’s 6ft 2 and a defensive midfielder so brings much needed physical presence although was integral part of the caley team relegated 2 seasons ago.
I’m sure he’ll do a reasonable job for us, is at a good age and at least it ups the height and physicality of the team. Wonder if he was highlighted by the analytics similar to Bray?
Hopefully the more exciting signings are in the forward areas.

I like that signing. Looks a tidy bit of business. Already has some first team experience under his belt which is always a bonus at this level. Lennon clearly rates him too, went and watched him live in the flesh which, personally I love that kind of due diligence. Shows we`re not just chucking darts at a list.
Three year deal as well, which is interesting. Clearly see potential there if we’re committing for that long. Hopefully he kicks on with us.

A defensive midfielder so gotta trust Lennon on this one.
He was ICT players player of the year so that’s promising. Picked up 10 bookings last season so sounds like he’s in the Lennon mould.
Probably takes Clays place in the squad.
Marquee signing next?

Hopefully playing with Bray is going to help.
Think we have overlooked the partnership connection within the team for a while now.
Fullback + winger - Higgy + Williamson. They knew each others game & where there partner was going to be, what space they are going to run into. It’s invaluable.
I can’t think of one good partnership we have in the current squad.

Don’t know much about him and won’t pretend to.
Looks decent on his highlight reel. Inverness fans seem to be gutted to have lost him. So those are good signs.
Three year deal makes it kinda high stakes. Got to trust that Lennon knows what he is doing tho.

Must admit to not knowing him, however the feedback from Inverness fans on twitter and the comments on P&B seem to suggest he’s got something about him, and obviously he’s another with a good youth background.
Interesting to see what happens, welcome to the club!

Yeah, the length of the contract might raise a few eyebrows. Could be a bit of a risk if it doesn’t work out. But I do like the fact Lennon actually went to watch him live, it says a lot. He’s not just going off clips or stats, he’s done his due diligence.
He was a big fan of Clay, and maybe he sees Charlie as a younger, more mobile version. Could be trying to build something for the long term. Only time will tell if it pans out, but I’ve got faith in Lennon.

Watched the interview on my phone so the video was small. At that distance he looks like a younger Steven Gerrard with a Mr Robot vibe. Defensive midfielder so I`m guessing Wanyama won`t be staying on.
Does this split transfer window apply to us too?

So much for a new era signing quality players. Ross Docherty would have been a statement of intent with premier league experience yet again we opt for league 1 with potential. We’ve had countless of them these last few years.
Hope it works out but failed miserably at St Johnstone when asked to play up.

Surely, the most important factor is how much potential for improvement a player has, rather than the league he previously played in, Hunter? Some of the very top players often start out with a smaller club in a lower league before being transferred to bigger clubs playing at a higher level.

Yes he’s done it the other way so that point makes no sense. Having resigned Hamilton as a squad player and now Gilmour it doesn’t leave much space for improvement. Arguably he is a sideways step from Clay.
Read Eric Nicholson online (X) from the Courier, absolutely surprised we’ve made the move to sign him as he felt he was poor at St Johnstone and if our ambitions were to win promotion would be looking at better

Not going to comment on any players that we sign this year. Will put faith in NL and the board to get it right. Mainly, as I wont have seen many of them play much.
However, I do hope we have a good mix of experienced, higher profile players with the odd player from Champ etc.
As long as they come in and do a job, then thats all that matters.

Why do we need a `marquee first signing`? Do we hold off signing anyone else until that happens? .net loves a cliche.
There`s also a tendency to define a player by the least successful period in his career as if the possibility of improvement was non-existent. Gilmour was part of ICT`s relegated squad so probably should have been condemned to League 1 for the rest of his career but NL has seen enough of him to give him a 3-year deal. The new owners seem as keen on developing players as the previous ones. Let`s see how he does.

The truth is Malcolm, we don’t know mate, nobody has come out and said what the plan is and we’ve not had long enough to see a pattern to paint a picture on what the plan is. It’s just pure speculation, and I don’t think they can really be judged on what was a desperate throw of the dice in January, when they were only in place for a matter of days before the window shut.
My guess is that we’ll have a balanced squad, within that, we’ll need to retain a number of players we already have, we’ve go out and sign a few “well kent faces” and we’ll bring in a few youngsters and a few “unknowns” to supporters like us.
I posted it above, but I know nothing of this lad but I’m not going to write him off because he had an unsuccessful spell at St.Johnstone back in the day or because he’s not a marquee name. Some of the best players that I have seen play for the club, I’ve never known before they arrived, and some of the worst were (Scottish Football) household names.

Can someone tell me what a "marquee signing" is? Is it a player who`s been around a number of clubs and demands a ridiculously high salary and/or signing on fee?

One of our best signings in recent years, Kevin Nisbet had started off at Partick in the Premier League and did nothing of note, he bobbed around on loan at East Stirlingshire, Dumbarton and Ayr United without much impact.
He was basically written off as a lazy over-weight dud until the penguin saw something in him and he started banging goals in down at League 1.
Crawford thought he could do it in the championship and the rest was history.

I think the new owners have stated that they are about development. The best value from any experienced manager and a holistic analytical approach is to identify talented players, with the right attitude who are capable of further development and w
ho can be moulded into a team that you are building.
Of course you need some experience in the team but they need to be able to play at least 3/4 of the season to make a meaningful contribution to any promotion challenge.
New owners throwing lots of money at players is a thing fo muchr bigger clubs. It`s about investment in the right areas, and if youvare investing, youvwill be looking for a return on that investment over time. A two year deal for NL for me is recognition that time is needed to build a more sustainable football model with a solid foundation that is perhaps a few rungs up the ladder from the last few years approach. It takes money but also wise investment.

I have a feeling that we`ll see a mix of promising players who have potential to develop into sellable assets and established experienced players. I`m willing to wait and see how this plays out without getting into a state about every move we make. We`re building a squad not a first 11.
I predict without any inside knowledge whatsoever that our next signing will be the other end of the spectrum.

Challenge with ‘marquee signings’ is people expect big names, and let’s be blunt, any big names coming to Dunfermline, odds are they are on the decline, coming down to keep playing football, tail end of career, is their motivation still there?
Wanyama we would surely all have classed as a marquee signing.
Re Charlie, evidenced that Lennon has done his homework, admired by ICT and has that desire to play at the top level so motivation cannot be questioned.
There’s definitely argument to have more of that attitude than the other way round.
Agree with above though, think there will be a ‘marquee signing’ soon.

I always remember the likes of draper at Ross country to name one of the big solid defensive midfielders who won everything in the air and did well to protect the back 4. He’s an improvement on wanyama and hopefully an improvement on Hamilton so it’s small steps in an area where we were not absolutely murder last season.
The big improvements will hopefully be an attacking area of midfield and the wings and perhaps the full/wing backs.
He’s 26 so not quite sure on the potential side of things, could be a late developer but that’s more rare than youngsters getting those first few seasons under thier belt. Feels more like a solid signing with presence to help us in this league but we’ll need better around him to make the difference in terms of where we want to finish.

While they made an exception for Salah who was 26 at the time, Liverpool’s ex-head of data analysis indicated they had a general rule not to sign anyone over 24. He also indicated most players peak at around 27 and can then plateau and eventually decline (and for how long and how many games a season depends on how well they have looked after themselves and injuries). Younger players therefore have room to improve and maybe can be sold on profitably while the same cannot be said for older players. However when you have a great player who is older and slower/less fit they still may be able to perform such as George Best when he was at Hibs. Will be interesting to see how fit Wanyama can get because latterly there were signs of great skill and ability.

I’m not convinced that means he’s still under contract. I think it’s just poorly worded. I would find it strange that a player would sign a deal that would expire in between two transfer windows. I think his contract would’ve expired at the end of the season but the club didn’t announce it as the Bulgarian season was still ongoing until last week. Would be good to get some official confirmation though.

I agree it`s poorly worded from the club. I remember the club tried to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency basis, but the deal was blocked because it would have been completed outside the transfer window. So i would assume we wouldn`t be able to have his deal ending in October.
