Tragic news, awful for the families.
Seems the were overtaking another car, in a Lamborghini, which suffered a blow out. It will be interesting to see what sort of speed they were doing

Have a little respect ,jumping in there with what speed they were or were not doing is not the right time
RIP To both young men and sympathy to their families

How’s it not the right time? If it was some random and not a celeb that exact question would be asked.

Reports that he was driving to catch a ferry, to return to Liverpool for pre season training, as doctors had advised him against flying after minor surgery.

How desperately sad. Not because they were footballers, but because they were two young men in the prime of their lives. I feel very sad for them on a human level, but eleven more so for their families - Diogo`s wife and kids and his parents.
Is there anything worse than having to bury your own kids? It goes against nature. We can accept losing parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and even siblings, but not our children.
RIP Andre and Diogo and deepest condolences to all their relatives and friends.

British Press really showing its true colours once again - Daily Mail posting images of the car and Jotas wife outside the mortuary today after coming out.
What is wrong with these people that think this is ok to post on the same day as the tragedy?

It’s desperately sad on so many levels.
Jota racing to get the ferry after having lung exploration in hospital and advised not to fly.
Don’t even know if he or his brother was driving but what a horrific end burning to death.
I can only pray the crash rendered them unconscious immediately.
His poor newly wedded wife and children will never get over this.
It goes beyond football, it is just simply tragic.
RIP Diogo and Andre

Horrendous news & especially when reading the details. Like AAPS, I really hope they had passed before the fire - just doesn`t bear thinking about otherwise.
Such a sad incident taking 2 young men from their families, never mind their football teams.
RIP Diogo and Andre 💔

Just hit the news what I think everyone was expecting that it was looking like Jota was driving and excessively speeding.
Two lads in a Lamborghini at night, no surprise really.
Feel sorry for the family - doesn’t help that it may have been avoided by adhering to the speed limit.
Think we should all take note when on our daily travels, it’s not worth it.

Yeah that’s true and even though we know they only drove after Doctors advice not to fly to catch the ferry, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world had he missed it.
No point in speculation or blame etc as they, and they alone lost their lives.
If the Tyre blew as is believed they may still have had this happen within the speed limits.
Think 120kmh was the limit.
These cars are so close to the ground too and you must feel you’re going so fast even at 80 nevermind what they were going at that night.

The report from the Spanish Police states the car was “likely speeding” and that the area of the road they crashed on should have been drivable at faster than the speed limit. It seems like a mix of speed and lack of luck that the tyre has given way.
Either way, 2 young men lost their lives, which is the important thing in this whole tragedy.

Agree on not speculating or placing blame but disagree with the reasoning and difficult for me to make my point without speculating a little so apols in advance.
But Jota had three adorable kids and a lovely wife, it was their own lives they lost but it has affected the lives of their loved ones forever, kids growing up without a father, a wife having to bring three kids up on her own.
If (here’s the speculation) it’s proven he was speeding which let’s face it, will be the case in a Lamborghini then my sympathy towards him turns a little into anger because of the effects it’s left on his loved ones which may have been avoidable.
It may well have still happened had they been driving slower but safe to say the likelihood of it resulting in the same outcome will be lower - speed limits are there for a reason as frustrating as some of them are.
You see it all the time on work journeys, folk driving right up yer ar£e, lane hopping, firing past, just takes one accident to change many lives and can be caused by selfishness, careless driving etc but no one tends to batter an eyelid until something bad happens.
So whilst some say it isn’t the right time to talk about this whilst it’s fresh, one could argue it’s the right time as it’s the most impactful.
Being ten mins late for work or a meeting isn’t and shouldn’t be the end of the world.

Glad you`re alright. Happened to me a few years ago with the kids in the back. Managed to nurse the car onto the hard shoulder but what a bang. At first I thought the suspension had gone then got out to fine an absolutely destroyed tyre.

Yeah I`m fine mate, thanks. Was coming down from 70, so was probably about 50 or 60, but yeah the bang was loud as. Nearside passenger side, so the steering was ropey. Managed to get it round onto the quieter road, heading into Dalkeith, so didn`t cause any disruption, thankfully.

I`ve had it happen as well. Didn`t fully realise at the time but was on motorway which was thankfully quiet and not a nice experience.
Lucky a lorry was behind me driver had seen it, realised what happened and boxed in behind me with his hazzards on till i was safely on the side of the road.
That was many moons ago in a 1.2ltr Clio. Would be a different kettle of fish entirely in a RWD supercar.

Liverpool confirmed today that the No. 20 shirt will be retired across all teams in memory of Diogo Jota and the impact his life, and death, has had on the club.

I wonder if they would have permanently retired the jersey if it was a more significant number like 9 or 10? No 20 is a pretty insignificant number, but 9 or 10, they`re a big deal. Just numbers, but pretty iconic ones in the footballing universe. I reckon they would have taken it out of commission for a year, which is still very respectful.
Pointless comment I know but it is an interesting quandary 🤔.

This year was also Liverpools 20th league title win. Pretty poignant in itself I’d say.

I remember when we retired the number 4 when Norrie passed away with Mandy albeit only till the end of the season.
Have to remember there weren’t squad numbers then just 1-14 including the subs but subsequently any player wearing the number 4 jersey knew who’s shoes they were filling.
