If something went wrong on the pitch, the manager gets the blame. So in this case, when an off field issue like this happens, the blame surely lies with the CEO? Not sure why a club like us needs a commercial manager. Cook said when he arrived he done commercial work for the clubs he worked at?

I know he was(is) a Pars fan but he certainly didn’t know the fan base in 1990
He was hoodwinked by his close pal Iain Munro and persuaded an ageing board of directors to get Jim Leishman out of the dugout.

I’ve no idea who ultimately makes the decision on the offers that are given to potential signings or what pool of players we’re looking at. The last few seasons has been a real struggle in getting quality through the door. Hopefully we have a big surprise with a few new faces tomorrow. Lennon is certainly the highest calibre manager we’ve had in a long time and to waste that. Would be criminal and negligent.
Ultimately we will find out come the first league game. Let’s just hope that my decision to buy season tickets, mainly due to Lennon signing and the hype does have us enduring the sort of football that’s been on show the last few seasons.
Hey, and you never know maybe you can win it with kids.

The role of a CEO at a club like Dunfermline should be about steadying the ship, growing the brand locally, and making sure the off-field stuff is slick and professional. Instead, we’ve got a guy who seems more interested in soundbites rather than actual delivery.
He said Erreà would be an upgrade, well if this is an upgrade, I’d hate to see a downgrade. Second season in a row we’ve completely butchered the kit launch and stock in the club shop. No stock, no clarity, no respect for the fans’ time or money. You’ve got folk desperate to buy shirts for their kids and yet again the club can’t get the basics right. It`s amateur hour.
And as for “strategic leadership”another key role of a CEO at. Football club. What`s the strategy? Because from where I’m sitting it looks like cross your fingers and hope for the best. Euro fanzone was a decent event, fair enough, but you don’t get to dine out on that forever. Day to day operations are all over the place. Hospitality has been hit and miss, supporters meetings binned as soon as we hit trouble under mcpake.
He’s supposed to be overseeing a professional setup but right now it feels like we`re being run like a pub team. If the CEO can’t even get a kit launch right one of the biggest revenue days of the summer then what is he doing?
We need more than words. We need delivery. Because fans are running out of patience fast.

It`s good to know what his role `should be` but we still don`t know what it is.
It seems all he had to do was get a kit launch right. As far as we can see that was linked to rearranging new sponsorship deals which presumably he was heavily involved in.
Meanwhile he was spearheading our recruitment drive. This could mean anything from identifying targets to deciding how much to pay players or their agents and when exactly to abandon one target in favour another.
Oh, and don`t forget to make sure we have a pitch that`s playable for the new season.
And all he was interested in was `sound bites`. Not so long ago he was accused of lacking any communication with the fans so that must be an improvement.
I wonder how many of us would like to be criticised for our performance by people who don`t know what exactly our employers have asked of us?

Wee Eck, your comments are always thought provoking and challenging where there is no clarity in a situation and I applaud your candid stance. It is excellent.
However this is an embarrassment for the club. A major launch gone wrong is shocking for any business and costs a lot of money for the business and for the customer satisfaction.
The club will only have the goodwill of its captive market customers for so long. And I think this event is possibly a last chance saloon to turn things around at the commercial level.

Actually it is the clubs fault too if this is the case. Order confirmation is required when placing an order. This should have been checked by the buying party. Was the requirement clear? Did Errea screw it up even after the order confirmation was accepted? Many questions but unfortunately the club would also have to accept responsibility in this situation also

And surely they could have stuck a prototype on a mannequin, explained the delay but still proceeded with the event and started taking pre-orders instead. Bairns are more excited to see the players and unlikely to worry about the sponsors font size.
You would think the community engagement itself would have perceived value especially just now

Errea supply the kits with the sponsor’s unbranded so not on Errea. I’ve been involved previously with St Johnstone kit supply and it’s always outsourced. DAFC use a supplier in Scotland for doing them.

How there are still people trying to defend Cook and this mess is staggering 😂 no wonder we are so brutal when folk don’t mind that the clown running the show is ballsing up everything he has control over.
The club has gone backwards in his tenure, and as others have said, the experience of going to East End these days is awful compared to 5/6 years ago when we first got back up from League One.
Wait though, will we reveal a player today to ease the worries? Will we f**k!

Probably not given the club advertised it and it was expected to happen only be to called off the day before. There is people that have taken holidays to take their kids today. If it was our first **** up then the pile on as you call it may not have happened. We haven’t been great for a few years and for some the lack of signings means any mistake the club make will be highlighted. As a club we do ourself no favours.

So `those in the know` can`t agree among themselves who is responsible for getting the size of the sponsor`s name right on the kit! Well, the good news must be that we have a sponsor, which some were doubting.
I`ll continue to take everything that`s posted on here with a pinch of salt, especially from those who claim to have inside knowledge. I certainly won`t be screaming for somebody`s head to roll on the strength of it.
As for the CEO`s successes? Again it`s difficult without detailed knowledge but he must have been heavily involved in the sale of the club from the Germans to James Bord & co and it seems he was quite influential in bringing Neil Lennon to the club, according to NL himself. I think he got credit for the Euros Fanzone last year but that may have been a team effort like a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

You say we don’t know what his role is, but then go on to list about five things he was apparently doing. Sounds like you’ve got a pretty good idea of what his remit actually is.
The kit launch was a shambles. No excuses there. We’ve had enough of these PR own goals that it`s no longer just bad luck, it’s a trend. Cook talked a good game about Erreà, and now we’ve ended up worse off than we were with Joma. Fans are right to be angry about that.
But let’s not pretend the CEO’s sitting at his desk stitching shirts and packing boxes. The commercial team failed here, and if Cook’s running that show, then yeah, he also owns that mistake.
Recruitment? it’s the scouting team’s job to identify targets. But if Cook’s job is to make deals happen and we’ve barely signed anyone, then that’s where questions need asked. Either we’re going for players we can’t afford or we’ve not been decisive enough—either way, the squad is worse than last year at the moment.
That’s what leadership is. You get credit when it works, you take flak when it doesn’t. He doesn`t really have a lot of credit in the bank.
Wasn`t it funny how those fan meetings disappeared once the heat got turned up. Communication improved for five minutes when things were rosy and we won league 1. They soon vanished as soon as results dipped. Fans aren’t daft we notice.
End of the day, he’s the CEO. It is his watch. If it all falls apart under his leadership, then he has to answer for it. That`s just the gig.

They’ll manufacture the kit but why would they be responsible for printing another companies logo onto their Errea made tops.

Having met David cook a couple of times I generally find him quite a decent chap but he’s set some lofty expectations on the direction of the club and sporting performance, if those aren’t met, the buck stops with him.
He has to be commended for any part he played in getting Lennon into the club. The best manager we have had for a long time, but Lennon needs better players and if they don’t arrive soon then we will struggle again. Questions will continue to be asked about recruitment as competitive games begin next week. Hopeful for a turnaround but if this season goes badly then I feel it might be Cooks last.

I can only really view Cook from what I’ve seen (which is very little to nothing) and from what I’ve heard, none of which has really been positive.
I’m not convinced he had a lot to do with Lennon coming on board, in Cooks statements each time he’s referenced it wasn’t doable without Bord. Lennon has said as much as well.
Sounds like Bord did all the heavy lifting and Cook probably did a facilitating role, the type that draft an agenda, make sure all attendees make the meeting and take the minutes…

So Bord had no part in Tidser`s appointment? In that case he must have been really annoyed when the club released a video interview with DC made after the appointment in which he stated that, although Tidser was on the initial short list of candidates drawn up, his credentials were subsequently confirmed by data analysis prepared by JB`s software.
After his appointment NL said -
“I more or less agreed things with the owner towards the end of the season,” he explained. “Obviously, there was negotiations going on with the contract and that, but he was true to his word and I’ve been true to my word, so we’ve got a good relationship, which is really important. And obviously, the people around the club, David’s obviously important in that aspect. We know there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, that’s a real challenge for me and one that I’m looking forward to.”
As I say, you just can`t believe anything from people claiming to know what goes on behind the scenes.

Admittedly you’d think being the CEO is someone who’s obviously important.

Strange coming from you who said he was little more than a secretary.

He has to be commended for any part he played in getting Lennon into the club. The best manager we have had for a long time
Based on what, exactly? Results were crap & we scored twice (?) in 7 games. Mcpake would have achieved what Lennon did.
Then there’s the hype regarding his apparent pull to get players in based on working for him, going well so far isn’t it? If we don’t sign several players to go straight into the staring 11 very quickly, looking at our squad.. we’ll be kicking about the bottom of the league again by Christmas. Lennon has yet to earn any praise whatsoever.

Lennon had a disaster in his first game. We then only scored 2 goals in the next 5 games, but only conceded 1. By the end of that, we had taken 8 points and were safe from relegation.
The Morton game was a dead rubber, although we apparently played ok after the bad start - and the terrible penalty decision.
So, he deserves some praise. It wasn`t great viewing, but he did a decent job based on the mess he inherited. Tidser`s last game was just about as bad as I can remember seeing and we were 100% going down at that point.
McPake, from memory, managed 15 points from 19 games. The league cup was spectacularly bad prior to that. I don`t think there is any evidence to suggest that McPake would have achieved what Lennon did.

It’s not really, being a CEO in any company is an important role so David Cook as a person is in an important position.
That’s different from me thinking he’s any good at it.

The last time this club was anywhere close to being well run was when it was fan owned.
Were we not promised that private investment was essential and would improve our situation?
Also, the Chief Executive is ultimately responsible for more or less everything at the club.
Anything that they are not directly responsible for is something where they are responsible for the recruitment, or retention, of the person who is. They usually line manage senior staff who are in charge of departments.
The CEO at my work would take responsibility if I screwed up, despite him not knowing how to do my job or recruiting me, my boss, my boss`s boss or even my boss`s boss`s boss. He is ultimately responsible for the whole shebang.
The enemy travels by private jet, not by dinghy.

Apparently the strip delay is something to do with the size of the sponsor on the strip being wrong.
Not club fault on this occassion but Errea.

See if Cook was doing a good job, this thread and these arguments wouldn’t exist.
They have continued for over a year now. That says it all.
Cook Out.

The following was a quote from Cook on the Club Update on 9th May:
"With many players departing, we will, of course, be making significant changes to the playing personnel ahead of the new season. It has been frustrating that we haven’t been able to mount a promotion challenge over the past two seasons and that is something we are keen to address. It is going to be a big summer, and we will be doing everything in our power to get recruitment right to make sure we deliver the results we all crave.
Alongside the busy summer in the transfer market..."
We`re now 2 months down the line, a week out from our first competitive game, and we`ve signed an 18 year old and a player from League 1.
The chairman set these expectations for fans by saying we were in for a busy summer. It`s been nothing like it.
They may well be working hard in the background, but it`s no surprise that frustrations are only getting bigger when Cook himself set us up for that.

The CEO is answerable to the board and they are the best judges of whether he is doing the job they charged him with. Everything else is just speculation.
I must say it`s a bit rich somebody as dogmatic as NMCmassive accusing another poster of `always posting the exact same opinions`!
You do though. That’s why I think there’s a fair to middling chance you’re the same person and also a small to fair chance you’re David Cook. I mean just look at everything you’ve wrote about him, it’s exactly what Dave cook in disguise would write

DBA raises a good point. David Cook raised expectations high, he must now do whatever it takes to meet them.
An old phrase I live by running my own business is “under promise and over deliver”, I’m sure Mr Cook has heard that before.

and then in June he said....
"We would all like to sign players early to give as long as possible to settle into the club. But at times, we have to be patient and diligent to ensure that we sign the right ones not just the easy ones.
Right now, we are exploring domestic and international markets. We are embracing the video and data led recruitment tools that Short Circuit bring to the table as well as traditional scouting methods in markets close to home. We are making progress in some areas that we have identified and hopefully more signings will be forthcoming over the next couple of weeks."
the first part should have been said in May alongside what was said.
July`s "update" will presumably be coming soon.....i predict still trying to sign "quality", wont sign anyone just for the sake of it and more patience is required with a reminder that the window has 2 months left to go.

You`re like kids at Christmas who don`t understand how market forces work and affect what presents they want.
NMCm, I`m totally confused now. Are you saying I`m THREE different people?

Stop acting like this is a fan created problem - other clubs have been very active so far.

Exactly what David Cook would say. Absolute superiority complex.
Imagine thinking nobody else understands “market forces” while still failing on providing the one thing the club needs-a competitive first team squad
