Robertson looks as good as Easton tbh……Seven years younger too. Worth a shot surely?

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Maybe keep our powder dry with him.

Maybe shouldn`t be mentioning powder and shots when talking about him tho.

A player has a couple of good games for a lower league club and we should be signing him and yet the squad that won the League 1 title for us and only lost one game had `found their level` and should have been ditched ASAP?

The whole squad? I don’t think you can legitimately make that claim.

Players have, as long as I’ve watched football, continually shown themselves to be capable of playing at higher levels. Not every player obviously but I think we see evidence of it every single season.

just because robertson is from lower league team doesnt mean hes not good enough for championship look at john winker watson came from hong kong rangers was signed for £50 and 2 meals at cafe he could score in any league scored 2 v celtic in league cup early in his career so could be good player for team

Not him being from lower leagues that would be concerning, if your looking up his cup goals, maybe look up why he left linfield as well.

No real 100% reason officially given for John Robertson leaving Linfield online that I can find, but it seems he was 4 months into a 2 year full time contract which he agreed to end by mutual consent.

Certainly a lot of rumours flying about at the time. Plenty of innuendo about Line-field, white lines, Peruvian Marching Powder, etc

The main point is, some people in this forum have children, jobs, families etc, so there is no need for petty squabbling, i usually only argue if the opinion is just drivel, we all just need to grow up imo

Me included lol, i first joined trying to be a troll as a daft teenager thinking it was funny, i have matured and realised i just want to talk about the club i love, we all want the same thing, we just need to band together, like a happy family :)

Ok I`ll bite, from the 22/23 squad , 10 are still with us and have been in the bottom half of the championship twice , apart from Josh Edwards , all the rest that left have moved on the lesser clubs , just saying .

JR would be a gamble. On the plus side he’s scored some goals against championship opponents (us and wee team) but can he step up that far and do it consistently over a season? Who knows. Then there is his extra curricular activities to consider. Overall I’d probably pass on him if we had the opportunity to bring in someone who’s done it at this level instead.

Thats exactly what he did.
He pointed out that players doing well and looking good in lower divisions dont always make it at championship level, as was very well shown by our title winning squad.

A perfectly normal comment deserving a less paranoid response.

Looked like he is/was a fair bit off being fully fit unless he`s just got that naturally stocky build.

Here we go again. Second thread in a row completely off the rails and, shock horror, it’s wee Eck right slap bang in the middle of it. The guy’s turned the place into a total sideshow with his constant barrage of random “quotes” that barely relate to anything being discussed all just to try and score some daft wee points. Every time there’s even a half decent point raised in he waddles with the usual nonsense and suddenly we’re a mile away from the original topic.

Totally agree with that. Kane offers something we’re badly lacking without him in someone who can take the ball in and bring others into play. That physical presence is vital in this league. That said, Connor Young could be that guy. You’d imagine it’s now or never for the lad. He’s got the raw ability, decent finisher, and if he can stay fit and get a consistent run we might see him getting us the goals we have lacked previously.

Big season ahead for him, he needs to deliver. He’ll need service, of course, and hopefully the midfield can give him that. He looked lively in spells last season but was hampered with the injury at Ayr.

EK did look well structured and are no mugs at all. Won’t be many teams going there and getting an easy 3 points and they seem ambitious to get to the championship going by Simon Ferry. As for Raith, here`s hoping they have a stinker and we get the better of them in our head to head fixtures. Would love to go up, but even if we’re in the Championship next season and they are too, you’d take that for the derby days alone. Nothing better than getting one over on that lot.

c'mon the pars

I was hoping Steven Fletcher was going to be the cover for Kane but he never materialised despite somebody telling us he was on the way to Bulgaria to join our training camp. Time-wasters on a fitba` forum seem to be inevitable unfortunately.

Another post that’s absolutely nothing to do with the thread shocker.

Your performance today’s been like Raith Rovers against EK (just to keep the thread on topic) started poorly and somehow managed to get worse as it went on. At least they had the decency to pack it in after 95 minutes what’s your excuse?

Young and Cooper certainly have the instinct, and I felt that if we didn`t extend Cooper`s contact would have been an opportunity missed, I`m sure they will kick on, but yes we do need more experience up front as well , like wee Eck was hoping it was Fletcher, I guess pre season people just post anything.

Clearly no one is "in the know" now, and I kind of like that we sign guys with no one leaking.

Can’t agree about the pen. It was minimum contact but he unbalanced the player and he couldn’t get his shot off. It may be soft but it’s a pen.

I spoke about Robertson on another thread before all this kicked off and thought it might be worth us having a look at him if we hadn`t already done so. Reason being he plays out wide, seems to have pace and a bit of an eye for goal, the sort of player we have been badly missing in the last few seasons.
We could be doing with signing one or two players who could get bums off seats. If the reasons for him leaving Linfield are as suggested though best to give him a wide berth.
