Great news. Not only the extension in itself (well done Josh), but the message it sends to the whole squad... do well and be recognised for it.

What a great reward for hard work, persistence and self-belief! I think we`ve got to give James McPake credit for giving the lad a chance and persuading him to hang around when the German owners froze the budget and put his initial deal on ice.
The Courier also mentions the link with Mason Munn with the caveat - `However, it is understood the 19-year-old is one of a number the Pars have on a list of options.’

Half agree wee eck, cooper was a benchwarmer for Stirling the season before he joined us so a no brainer for him to hang around for a chance at full time football.
Hopefully he’s in for a big breakthrough season though, so it’s worked out well for all concerned. Here’s hoping he continues to develop.

He only made 18 appearances under McPake out of 31 since signing. He hardly a proper run to build any kind of momentum. Only managed 3 goals in that time, but since McPake left, he`s added another 4 already. Lennon’s backed him, given him a proper chance, and he’s repaid that faith with a good bit of form. That’s down to Cooper proving himself when given the chance.
c'mon the pars

One thing I don`t like about this forum is the way people are branded `hero` or `villain` with no allowance for nuance. It`s highly likely that Josh Cooper wouldn`t even be at our club if it wasn`t for James McPake. Credit is due to NL for seeing his potential too and fitting him into the way he wants his team to play.

The key thing with Josh Cooper is the level of improvement. It tells you many things from his inherent willingness to improve and general commitment. The management team clearly believes he is worth the investment.

I was thinking that after the Dumbarton game about McPake wee eck. To be honest, the signing was a bit underwhelming for me at the time as he was seen as a ‘super sub’ at Stirling who were relegated to league two. McPake obviously saw potential and after a full preseason under Lennon he is showing he is more than capable. Hopefully that will continue into the league. It’s a positive move giving him an extension. If he keeps playing like this he could have a decent career.

Often course McPake should take some praise, at the end of the day he could see the potential Cooper had and thought he was worth the chance, and persuaded him to hang around with no wages for 3 months.
ANYWAY, the real praise must go to Josh Cooper, who has worked his ass off to get into this position and he rightly deserves it. Delight for him and delighted to have him here for a few more years yet.

Good example to any young player. I`ve seen guys getting released by clubs and they just seem to give up. He`s came in, worked without a contract to try and earn a deal. This season, physically he looks a lot bigger and stronger, he must have put the work in at the gym

Great news! The lad works hard on and off the pitch. the fact he turned down offers to keep training with us last year with no guarantee of a deal speaks volumes.
Did he just sign a 1 year deal in the summer? Or was that a auto extension to his contract?

It didn`t really register with me yesterday that he`d effectively been given a 3-year deal. That`s quite a vote of confidence. Doesn`t it exceed NL`s contract?

We like handing out these long contracts, ended up stuck with Wighton and O Halloran last season and Mehmet this season.

On COWS ... great interview ... gallous ... love his Tidser quote
Josh Cooper’s journey to this point has been far from straightforward. This time last year, he was without a club deal, but his determination and work ethic have paid dividends. “I was saying that to my family, I didn’t have a deal last year. Then I came in, felt I was decent under McPake, showed good signs, and then Tidser, just whatever happened there? Then the gaffer came in again, new deal, and straight away another new deal. So, I’m delighted.”

3 goals = 3 years. As it should have been in first instance. Always looked like scoring in the few minutes he was offered. Always said to my mate , he’ll get a chance when he came on.

About sums it up for me as well.
Clear talent wasted for a whole season near enough.

I bet we get more value out of Josh Cooper over the 3 year deal, than the Rovers get out of Easton in the same time frame
