 Arbroath v Ayr
Topic Originator: wee eck
Date:   Fri 1 Aug 19:39

First chance to assess this season`s opposition tonight on BBC Scotland - 7.45 pm ko.

Arbroath have ex-Pars Dow and Reilly in their starting line-up and Todorov on the bench. Ayr have Dom Thomas.

I can see already that the quality of refereeing is not going to be an upgrade on last season`s poor standard.

Arbroath have been excellent, Dow should have equalised.

How could you have dozed off widtink, "It`s one of the most exciting leagues in the whole of Europe", according to the guy with the suit at half time. And according to James Mcfadden, "Errr united are doin` fine." Think he learned his diction from Stanley Baxter, "err a perr a perrs ow`r errr",

Not watching, but really? At least that might suggest he`s interested which is more than he ever was with us. If I didn`t have enough reasons already to dislike Arbroath they sign him. Straight back down with any luck.

Awful defending for Ayr for the equaliser, letting the long ball come then not winning either battle.

From what Ive seen its been a poor game and Ayr aren’t as good as they’ve been bigged up to be.

Ayr don’t look as good as last season and Arbroath will be a match for most.

O’Brien is a good left sided centre back. Just what we need.

I wouldn`t draw too much from one game, only a couple weeks ago Ayr thumped Arbroath 4-0 at Somerset. Having said that, in the second half Ayr were turgid and Arbroath probably feel unlucky not to get 3 points. As ever most of these championship games will be very tight with momentum swings and it`ll be about taking chances when you`re on top.

Arbroath have got a few old heads in there and done well. Deserved the point of not more.

Thought Wilkie at left back was very tidy and TOB was also very good.

Leagues there to be won, ayr looked poor but I would like us to get an Oakley type in who can make the ball stick up front.

Three quality attacking signings and we`re a match for anyone.

I enjoyed not watching it if that helps.

On another note, are they not the two most seaside teams in Scottish football?

Yes for Arbroath, but I would nominate ICT in this category - you can kick a ball from whatever the Caledonian Stadium is called this week into the Moray Firth (not much of a beach admittedly, but it is part of the North Sea.)

Tam O`Brien is a decent player, we should have signed him up years ago, he would have really helped our defence. I remember saying this to his cousin and he told me he wouldn`t fancy coming here anyway because he hates us

so your happy with with mullen ( dodgy at best pre season ) Benny (bombscare and court case hanging ) and a teenager( good preseason against lesser teams ) as your central defence ?

He`s not interested in being full time. Got a decent job outside football. Arbroath gave him a 5 year deal, 2 seasons ago which is rare at this level.

Mullen `dodgy pre season` is one of the best in the league at his best. He`d be a regular in any team in the league.

John Tod has been a revelation, and to make his debut at Tynecastle and not look out of place speaks volumes. He`s earned the right to be in the starting 11.

Bene can still perform at this level too. We probably need better to make it into the playoffs tbh, but I`m not writing him off quite yet.

What more are you expecting exactly? Defence isn`t our main problem!

How good was Ryan Dow?

Maybe getting on a bit but he strolled that game. Still a great player.

Well played Dowser!
