Officially hung up his boots, stating his knees just aren`t up to it. Injuries absolutely ruined his career sadly

That`s a shame. I hope he has something else lined up. He used to get dog`s abuse from some fans on here despite being a very skilful footballer. Thanks for the memories, Craig, and good luck.

That`s a shame, he must be gutted, huge credit to him for being honest and not trying to eek out his contract, respect.

I keep forgetting how young he actually is, I honestly thought he was about 33!

Och that`s a real shame.
Plenty highlights for us, not least our league 1 campaign.
Clearly been struggling with injuries for a few years now, you really feel for him, even when we signed him his knees were starting to struggle.
Was hoping he would take off at Montrose -making a move to part time was huge for him, but sadly his knees decided.
Best of luck, he will (hopefully) be one of these guys we will see back at EEP as a guest.
Football can be a brutal game.

Good luck Craig in whatever you do. Enjoyed your goals and in particular the goal at Dundee. maybe BandQ cup, when young Andrew Tod passed to you and you placed a clever shot in for a goal. Nice one.

Sad to hear, but inevitable really. I hope he can stay in the game?
Good luck in the future, Craig.

Good luck Craig……
He always had this great positional awareness in the box, he knew just where to be when the ball came across the goals. The deftest of flicks & it would nestle in the corner.
Thanks for that headed goal v Falkirk away.
Ran to the near post - doubles back to the pen spot - charges into the back post & headers it under the keeper.
Queue goal celebrations that all other goal celebrations will be measured against!

He got a lot of grief at the end here but it was obvious the injuries had destroyed his legs but the brain was still there. Must be frustrating. Hope he can continue to work in football.

A talented footballer but was completely done in his last two years with us.
Sad that his career turned out this way. He seems like a popular character in the game, so could see him in a coaching role somewhere.

Good comment there, I hope in time guys like Craig, McCann, Chalmers etc would be welcomed in hospitality/ex players association etc they all did their turns for us.
I see that he has started a good sized landscaping business, so I`m glad he has the future set up-i also hope he can stay in the game at a coaching level.

Imagine some of our fans would love having Wighton doing their garden so they could stand upstairs shouting abuse from the window 😂 "Call that a patio?!"

I was sorry to hear this as I`ve always liked Craig and thought he was a great signing when we brought him from Hearts. Surely there`s a role for him in football in some capacity, if he wants ro stay in the game.

Having been part-time with Montrose for the second half of last season and stayed there this season, he may have started the landscape gardening business earlier this year. Not all footballers want to stay in football and who can blame them? It`s a very insecure career path.
