By today`s referee.😱 🙄
It`s been a long time since I witnessed such an inept and clueless showing from the man with the whistle, in stark contrast to our boys who performed so well for 80 mins.

Unfortunately refereeing is just incredibly poor at the moment, we saw it last Friday with the clown who didn`t send Stevenson off and we saw another display of inconsistency today

Scottish refs have been declining for years, and are at their worst now I think Ive seen. There’s a reason no Scots are called up to big tournaments and only Beaton refs in Europe now.

The refs. we get at East End Park try so hard not to be swayed by the crowd that they deliberately verge towards the opposition. That definitely seemed to be the case today. And add to that a measure of incompetence and we get a very bad deal.

It`s not just Scotland! Some utterly brutal refereeing (guess what, in favour of big clubs) in England today.
Chelsea get given 2 incredibly generous goal deciding calls, and Burnley have a goal disallowed at Old Trafford where the graphic seems to show he was onside.
Compounded by a very soft penalty to Man Utd right at the death.

Nick Walsh is one of them referees that thinks he rules the planet immediately when he gets on a football field. A sufferer of small man syndrome that’s for sure.
Putting his poor performance down to the fact he’s probably raging about not getting the Old Firm game tmrw.

Had an atrocious game. The worst I`ve seen in a very long time.
Charlie Gilmour deserves some special credit for playing so long and avoiding a second yellow from the buffoon.
Why can`t creeping up the park at throw ins be stopped? The position the ball goes out of play seems clear and it would take really minimal effort to stamp out.

Just give the linesman a spray-can to mark where the throw-in is to be taken from. In the half where there is no linesman the referee should mark the spot. Failure to take the throw-in from the marked spot to be a foul throw.
TBH this would mean fewer quick throw-ins, so might slow the game down a bit, but it would stop behaviour such as that of Ross County today.

The two linesmen yesterday were a complete waste of a jersey. There were two decisions that happened right in front of them, and they made no call until the referee did, only then did they raise their flags. If that’s the case, they should be removed, as they serve no purpose.

I know for a fact that some refs instruct their assistants to limit themselves to raising their flags only for throw ins and offside. I have a friend who has run the line in both the Championship and Premiership. It wouldn`t surprise me if Walsh came into that category.

But even for throw ins, he waited for the referee to give the decision before signaling. A total waste of a wage.

In "modern" times when officials are using comms the flag is pretty much "decorative" only. The decisions are made and signalled by referee largely before a flag signal is made.
Ball played forward... attacker in offside position... AR "waiting/waiting/waiting" as soon as he touches the ball the whistle goes as he is then active and flag will go up. Decision is made and officials aligned before signal is made to the crowd. Similarly free kicks etc close to officials. "push in the back" ref will wait few seconds to see if there is any advantage or attack building and if nothing its brough back, assistant referee unlikley to flag.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRi0DI6Eo0dzHo7aEPPKuAViDn2uBQ4pz will give good insight on how the commuications go obviously without the additional VAR officials at this level.

and the guy thats meant to do Saturday`s game is worse

Refs will always be poor in Scotland until we employ full time refs like England.

I`m trying to think of the appropriate word to describe tonight`s referee. Perverse and Obtuse come to mind. One of those refs who get themselves in a hole and just keep digging. We were up against it before he sent Mullen off. But that just sealed the deal. Maybe he has a personality trait that enjoys winding up the home fans, or maybe he just has an arrogant, exhibitionist streak that reckons he`s the most important person on show. Either way he made himself the major talking point, booked 7? and sent 2 off. Hopefully someone will take a close look at his performance and relegated him to refereeing water polo. He`d probably get the horses drowned.(old joke). Never felt so indignant about a refereeing performance for ages. They should arrest him and get him to fund a course of therapy for 4,000 Dunfermline fans. That`s it I`m finished, I`m away to my bed.

Awful refereeing. Some managers seem to tell their players to take full advantage of the moment by surrounding the ref with ott reactions. If they are in front they will waste time, from the goalie who, yesterday blatantly ignored the refs instructions, to throw ins not to mention stealing yards. This constant behavior seems to wear refs down who pretend they are going to add extra minutes rather than take decisive action.
I actually thought the ref started ok by playing on early in the first half when he allowed us to have a break forward rather than blow for a foul. But that didnt last long.
Not way was that a sending off. I doubt if the ref even it because of the Ayr player s who were in way.

Referees generally aren`t enforcing any cards when players surround them, which baffles me. If that`s the way it is, then our players need to wise up and start getting in their face to draw cards on the other team.
I felt in the derby if the players had surrounded the ref after the Stevenson elbow he would`ve seen red. I don`t agree with doing it that way, but unfortunately it`s part of the game now. For years we`ve seen Brian Graham, Dylan Easton etc constantly muttering away with the referee generally without consequence.

He was bullied from the start by Ayr`s number 2 & 15, when Terrel went down when hit in the face they were all over him like a rash.
No action by the ref and so it continued, the Scott Brown rulebook on the dark arts!

Was that when the referee stopped play and restarted with a drop ball to Ayr in the first half ?
I reckon they had a case for complaint - there was no foul and the ball went to an Ayr player in an advantageous position to continue.
Had it been a Pars outfield player that went down I suspect play would have been allowed to proceed ?

I don`t know what the answer is to poor refereeing. We were told VAR would improve things but now there seems to be as much controversy as ever over questionable decisions. The availability of multiple replays, whether in actual time or slow motion or from various angles, doesn`t seem to help because ultimately the final decision is subjective. Is there any chance that football matches could be refereed by AI?

The play acting by the Ayr player to get JCM sent off is disgusting. He goes down `normally`, then realising it`s JCM has a delayed reaction pretending he was caught shin high.
The lino and the ref fell for it.
I reckon he should be done for simulation.

not sure many would complain on friday at "injustice" if tods free kick nestled in the top corner when the St Johnstone captain was booked for a "foul" on Mullen when he clearly won the ball with an excellent tackle. Even with VAR last nights decison couldnt/wouldnt be reviewed as it was a 2nd yellow card.

It didn’t go out of play - that’s why the Ayr players protested at the stoppage.

This the same captain that tried to win a penalty by diving and avoided a booking and also avoided a card for leaving something on Caceres with a late challenge? 🤔
