 Special One sacked again

Fenerbache President, Ali Koc, explained why the split with Mourinho became inevitable after their Champions League play-off defeat to Benfica.

“It was a bitter separation. We had great chemistry, his accomplishments are evident, and just being able to bring him here was a great achievement.

“It was difficult to part with someone I was friends with. We knew the coach would play defensively, but at the end of the season, we had discussed the need to take more of an initiative.

“The elimination to Benfica wasn’t so much the problem as the way we were eliminated. It made me feel last season’s approach would continue.

“We parted with Mourinho because we believed this team would be playing better football at this point. This kind of football might work in Europe, but in Turkey, we have to crush most opponents, not struggle to take the lead.”

Mourinho is a dinosaur who doesn’t want to adapt to new formations and tactics.
He won’t care as he’ll get other jobs and big payoffs.
His whole philosophy is still based on his success with Chelsea which if you remember was incredibly boring but effective at that point in history.
Most big clubs are more attack minded these days with all the new rules and VAR etc.

In fairness he finished 2nd with Man Utd. How Man Utd wish they could have that kind of `failure` now.

Why would anyone hire him and expect a different style of play? That`s baffling to me. If you hire him, you get the same soulless defence first football every other team he managed played. Baffling stuff 🤔

Can`t argue with that, Kozma, but if you use trophies won as your yardstick, he counts as one of the all-time post WW2 greats.

You can`t keep a good man down according to BBC Sport -

`Jose Mourinho is close to replacing Bruno Lage as Benfica manager after he was sacked following Tuesday`s Champions League defeat against Qarabag.

The Portuguese club threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against their Azerbaijani opponents at Estadio da Luz.

Benfica president Rui Costa said they intend to have a new manager in place by Saturday, but would not be drawn on speculation that Mourinho is their preferred option.

BBC Sport has been told Mourinho is in talks about to returning to work in Portugal, 21 years after he left for Chelsea.`

It`s incredible that a manager who`s been sacked so many times, and made more in pay offs than a Euromillions winner, is still in such high demand. I know he`s won an impressive number of trophies but most of these were a long time ago.

Manager of Fernebahce, happens to play Benfica in Champions League, gets themselves knocked out then sacked.

Gets himself a nice pay day and still gets Champions League football with Benfica.

Sounds like the Special One has nailed it.

heard that earlier wee eck.

8 league titles in first 10 years as manager and none in the last 9 years. 2 trophies in the last decade certainly seems like a "yesterdays man"

He’s caught the mediocre Man U bug 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think what’s happened is he wasn’t successful enough at Man U and isn’t getting the top jobs since then. He’s getting big clubs but not quite the most successful at that time.
