Just reading that he trained with the Pars after leaving Rangers in Feb 24…….and signed for Stirling Albion !

Wonder why we never signed him then as it surely could not have been a money issue 🤷🏼‍♂️

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Maybe it was the name. One McPake too much at the time, according to many. I feared that the name would come back to haunt us last night, and it did.

We probably didn’t fancy him - prior to joining Stirling he played for 6 different clubs on loan and didn’t stand out with any of them. He played against us a couple of times for Queen’s Park and never looked half the player he has this season - the St Johnstone manager has to take huge plaudits for getting the best out of him.

Having said that he only scored last night because of an unfortunate error from our goalkeeper. Without this Bene would probably have got man of the match and no-one would have been talking about McPake.

Aye, I think he signed for Stirling Albion on a short term deal before St Johnstone took a punt on him.

Like a lot of players, It has to click at some point or not. There`s no shortage of players released from the ugly sisters (or indeed everyone) at some point you hope they find the level.

Valikari obviously thought he could improve him,I`m guessing he won`t be paid a lot.

He could end up playing in the Premiership or like Rhys Breen etc dropping down (or out) before finding the correct level, then taking it from there .

It`s as much about how are player fits into a team as individual skill as a player. I think we have a winning formula with Jefferson Caceres, Andy Todd, Chris Kane, Rudden and Rory Mcleod. There are goals in there. If JCM can get on the end of some of those corners and we can get a contribution from midfield all well and good. I think Tash needs to add goals to his game. That will improve him as a player

Was he not a Levein signing, rather than Valakari? There was an article in The Courier today about the signings Levein made for the Super Jays, apparently they are expecting to make over a million by selling them, have already pulled in a large chunk of that

Give it enough time and I think MacLeod could turn out to be our version as far as being refined by the manager.

James McPake deemed him not good enough, he was offered an amateur contract but turned it down to look elsewhere. He couldn’t find anything, was invited into Stirling (by James Creaney) to keep ticking over and signed until the end of the season to keep himself fit.

Craig Levein watched him twice in person during that time, and Jim McIntyre watched him (on St.Johnstone’s behalf) a further 3 times (from memory) because they weren’t sure either. He was then invited into for pre-season and similar to Josh Cooper with us, he had to wait a couple of months for the deal, which was rumoured to be slightly more than he was getting at Stirling (which was not a lot), but he took it to get back to full time football.

Fair play to the lad, because he spent most of last season in the stand as well, but has obviously knuckled down.
