What happened to young? Is this guy that better than him? 2 professional goals to his name.
Hopefully he comes in and makes a difference but it’s a big ask for a 21 year old with 16 games to his name in the man’s game (600 minutes).
Espech as he’s only just coming back from injury.

Wow, didn’t see this one coming!
The grown up in me thinks it makes sense and he fills a huge void in the squad. The childish, petulant kid in me finds this embarrassing and wishes it not to be true, made harder by the fact that I didn’t he think he was that good for them when I saw him last season.
Proper melt down on the Falkirk twitter thread though…I like that!

Not sure what happened to Connor Young, he looked ok to me, maybe he is miles behind in training.
This is a stop gap I`m assuming until January, when hopefully Rudden will be back, we can`t rely on Kane.
This all stems from the last minute refusal for a work permit for an Italian striker, which put us on the back foot.
As for signing a Falkirk player? I don`t care, we`ve had loads of players playing for both teams, we are probably the 2 clubs most alike in Scottish football, similar sized fan base, generally about the same level etc. it`s natural for some players to have played at both clubs

No giving a toss if I get pelters on here. We need an established striker not another flipping `promising` one. Given that the 2 established ones we do have are either out long term or just as good as out, seeing as he only gets 5mins here or there.
And its nothing to do with any Falkirk connection

Eck, I`m not having a dig at the boy. Rudden came in as an established player, we`ve lost him for weeks. Kane, another established player, well we all know about him.
And to cover that, we bring in another young boy. Surely a scouting network can bring in another established player, other teams seem to be able.

We can`t bring in any loans outside of Scotland this month. The club had a deal finalised last month for a striker based in Italy but that failed to get SFA approval on deadline day.
If you bring in a free agent, they may take weeks to get up to fitness. Stewart has some (not much) championship experience and fits the attributes we need right now. We are desperate for a striker, let`s see if he can do a job for us before writing him off

In my line of work we often joke that you can have things good, quick and cheap but you can only have two.
In this case it feels like we`d all love experience, cheap, fit. Guess what? Doesn`t exist.
ETA: Barney may be young, but most of our team are and he's had the benefit of playing with a pretty experienced Falkirk team who are in a fairly enviable position.

I don`t care where he comes from. We`re doing the right thing and granting asylum to someone escaping the abject industrial waste land of Grangemouth. 😂
Seriously though, I hope he does really well for us.
As said above, I would ideally have liked more experience. I felt watching the game against Ayr the other night that it was like a bunch of aggressive but limited grown-ups vs talented kids. Ayr won out on nous and a lot of guile. They knew exactly how to manage the game and the ref.
The team could be doing with the 2025 equivalent of Martin Hardie and Kevin Rutkiewicz coming in.

I`m sure they`ll deny it, but some Pars` fans seem to have a ridiculous sense of entitlement. Here we are 4 days from the loan window closing and we are expected to replace a striker who has been generally recognised as a good signing late in the transfer window as the result of an audacious and enterprising bid - given that he had already moved earlier in the window - with a like-for-like loan. I suspect the reason no names have been suggested is that such players are extremely rare.

It`s a Football thing and not dotnet exclusive, I had a read of the Falkirk page on Facebook and incredibly their fans are equally as scathing. I`m not sure why from a Falkirk perspective, they took a punt on him and as yet with limited opportunities he`s not set the heather on fire, assuming he gets game time here they be learning more about him without any risk.
It`ll be interesting if he starts tomorrow ahead of Kane as that would be quite damning. Best of Luck Barney.

He’s a big focal point, will play similar role to Rudden. Hold the ball up and link up play while winning the odd free kick.
Going to have to give him a chance but doesn’t feel right him being on loan from Falkirk. Out of interest who was the last player we got directly from them, was it David Moss?

Stewart on from the start with McLeod on the bench. Get some height for crosses and dead balls. Don’t think A Tod is great with his head but with those two in the box and Caceres delivering set pieces/ corners then chances will come.

from the club update, 17th September:
"I am aware some fans have commented about the lack of experience in the squad. It was not our intention to have a squad as young as it is right now with an average age of 22, but players we looked to sign that would have fitted the more experienced profile either didn’t become available or we were priced out of these options"

I’m just going on facts, he’s got very little experience at this level and has been out injured so isnt match fit. We have young on the books who has at least scored plenty goals but is well put of favour now.
If he’s decent in the air, thats a big plus and energy and running once up to speed will help as tod doesnt give you much of this when playing as striker.

Between Caceras, MacLeod, Tod, Gilmour, Kearney etc etc we’ll create chances and score goals. What Rudden done well was be the tip of the spear so to speak. Without Kane/Rudden we don’t really have that. The times we do need to go long it’s guaranteed to bounce right back at us. Because we can’t go long, Ayr just squeezed up tight on us and we ran out of space. Even a striker that scores minimal amount of goals but can help us move up the park would help.

“Intrigued” would be the best way to summarise my thoughts on this move. Getting the “oh he’s a Falkirk player booooo” out the way, he fits the age profile of guys we’ve been bringing in. Young, has shown promise - albeit appears to have stalled a bit (similar to Macleod, who has done well in recent weeks). In recent years a lot of the young loan signings we’ve made from other SPFL clubs have typically become permanent so I think that may factor into it. Sure he’s not scored much but we’re not really needing him to. What we need is for him to use his size and be a facilitator for the likes of Tod, Macleod and so on. A goal or two along the way certainly would help though! Got to give him the benefit of the doubt and if he scores today, much like Rudden, I’m sure it’ll be quickly forgotten who he is associated with.

"It’s called rivalry."
You don`t need to be Peter Falk in shabby raincoat to understand that aspect.
Hardly a reason for denegrating a football player before he`s even kicked a ball after transferring from another club - professionals don`t think that way, neither do managers and directors either - it`s a job/business to them.

Nobody has denigrated the player as far as I can see.

That’s the point I have been making throughout this thread…..people are raging at posters, but what they are raging about, they’re making up. Mental!

The way I would look at it is that it`s good he is prepared to come here and play. It`s 3 months for him to prove himself, and who knows, maybe we will seek to sign him FT it it works out.

I thought he struggled a bit, but being down to 10 men didn`t help him. He looks like he needs some game time, but I`m not sure we have that luxury, unfortunately. I think we are lacking a bit of guile upfront

I think you are being kind and diplomatic here indiapar! Don’t want to write a lad off after 45 mins, but going on today, he has a lot of ground to make up 😬

Not much for him to do today to be honest, won a couple of headers and chased about a bit but had no opportunity to do much else given the circumstances.
Some good balls into the box in the second half and he wasn’t there, hopefully once he’s up to speed with his teammates he’ll get on the end of these.

He stopped Ash from punting the ball up the park a couple of times. He’ll come good when we have 11 folk on the park.

We have ample amount of players with this guys ability already hidden away out of match day squads and on loans. Parent club aside, he just doesn’t match the skill set we currently require in that position.

Taylor Sutherland out on loan and who knows where Connor Young is. Early days, but does Barney really look better, or potentially better, than either of these two?

It’s not like writing off another new signing. The guy has been out injured and hasn’t had a preseason. Massive step up into full time football last season from playing for Herriot watt.
Are you saying fans should be happy with bringing someone like that in when we’re already in a position where we can’t bed in some players trying to adapt to full time football? Our main striker can’t even manage more than 45 minutes. Bleeding in another young, inexperienced player into a team lacking confidence is not what we need.

What a load of bollocks writing this guy off after 45 mins.
Brought on at half time, the team 2 down and a man down. He was fighting for scraps and didn’t have much support. He’s still a kid, hasn’t played or had a pre-season and not one single training session with the team.
A work mate is a Falkirk fan and has been raving about the guy for a couple of years.

Perfect, so we’re 10 -12 weeks away from seeing him at full fitness and ready to play 90 minutes.
Big difference raving about someone who is match ready as to being managed back to fitness in a team that’s crying out for a consistent and fit striker.

Didn’t he only sign for them in January? Thought he was poor, would rather play Young.

I was actually angry watching him today.
Nothing at all to do with his Falkirk connection either.
He stood there doing very little pointing fingers at his teammates and contributed absolutely nothing in 45 minutes.
I hope I don’t have to see him again on a Pars strip.

John Mcglynn
Barney has played his part for us,” McGlynn explained. “He’s had some game-time but not enough. He has to be playing regular football. He needs to develop and that happens by playing. We had an enquiry from Dunfermline and then it was a decision that wasn’t taken just by myself - the board also. Football-wise from me, he has to go somewhere with an expectation level and a similar level of crowd. We want him to be equally challenged. They have a good manager and that ticks a lot of boxes for us. It is a good opportunity and it is all about Barney really.”

Taylor Sutherland can’t get in the Clyde team. For me Connor Young has real potential - is he not injured though?

Nobody knows, Lennon questioned his attitude at the Dumbarton game, since then he has been in and out, in my opinion hasn’t done much, and has now disappeared.

I thought we’d re-signed Lewis McCann. But McCann was usually more effective.
Tough game to make your debut in, because 2nd half is as bad as we’ve been since Tidser and he was feeding off scraps.
Hopefully next time he plays it’ll be in a better team performance with better service.
