Doesn`t say much for Rodgers packing it in when the going gets tough. Maybe he just liked it when they were rolling over the minnows of world football every week. But come off it, surely Ange`s a busted flush. Wouldn`t have him at Dunfermline for 2 grand a year.

Really can`t stand Rodgers, he`s been given masses of money in his time at Celtic and has wasted a load of it. Coming out and publicly trashing your board and ownership is almost never going to end well.
The Dermot Desmond statement is remarkable, to come out and say that about a manager after they`ve "resigned" is something you rarely see

Dermot Desmond statement in full
published at 22:24 GMT
22:24 GMT
Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation as manager of Celtic Football Club.
I want to acknowledge Brendan’s contribution across his two spells as Manager, during which he helped deliver success that forms part of the club’s modern history. However, I must also express my deep disappointment at the way the past several months have unfolded.
When we brought Brendan back to Celtic two years ago, it was done with complete trust and belief in his ability to lead the club into a new era of sustained success. Unfortunately, his conduct and communication in recent months have not reflected that trust.
In June, both Michael Nicholson and I expressed to Brendan that we were keen to offer him a contract extension, to reaffirm the club’s full backing and long-term commitment to him. He said he would need to think about it and revert. Yet in subsequent press conferences, Brendan implied that the club had made no commitment to offer him a contract. That was simply untrue.
We met with Brendan regularly, including in December last year and at the start of the summer, with regular dialogue in between, to discuss and agree our collective strategy, priorities, and approach. Every player signed and every player sold during his tenure was done so with Brendan’s full knowledge, approval, and endorsement. Any insinuation otherwise is absolutely false.
His later public statements about transfers and club operations came entirely out of the blue. At no point prior to those remarks had he raised any such concerns with me, Michael, or any member of the Board or executive team. In reality, he was given final say over all football matters and was consistently backed in the recruitment process — including record investment in players he personally identified and approved.
When his comments were made publicly, I sought to address them directly. Brendan and I met for over three hours at his home in Scotland to discuss the issue. Despite ample opportunity, he was unable to identify a single instance where the club had obstructed or failed to support him. The facts did not match his public narrative.
Regrettably, his words and actions since then have been divisive, misleading, and self-serving. They have contributed to a toxic atmosphere around the club and fuelled hostility towards members of the executive team and the Board. Some of the abuse directed at them, and at their families, has been entirely unwarranted and unacceptable.
Every member of the Board and executive team is deeply passionate about Celtic and acts at all times with professionalism, integrity, and a shared desire for success. What has failed recently was not due to our structure or model, but to one individual’s desire for self-preservation at the expense of others.
Celtic’s structure — where the manager oversees football, the Chief Executive manages operations, and the Board provides oversight — has served the club with great success for more than two decades. We all share the same ambition: to ensure Celtic’s continued success domestically and to achieve further progress in Europe. Every pound generated by the club is reinvested towards those goals and the continuous improvement of Celtic Football Club.
Celtic is greater than any one person. Our focus now is on restoring harmony, strengthening the squad, and continuing to build a club worthy of its values, traditions, and supporters.

So, i think there has been £££ to spend after all.
Rodgers hasn`t committed so they said nope we aren`t letting you spend big if you only have <12 months left on contract.
He`s smart enough and very media savvy to spin that back 180 on the board and who then get all the flack and protests about not backing the manager. He then plays young boys as additional ✌🏻 to the board to highlight lack of depth & quality knowing they`ll get it even tighter from the fans then final straw he resigns.
Also surprised at O`Neill going back, even temporarily. Massive legacy to risk tarnishing; the days of them attracting EPL players in their prime like he could first time round are long gone, plus he seems to be a lot less successfull since John Robertson took a step back.

Martin O’Neil is a smart choice and a really good man manager.
As much as I would like some team to break the stranglehold over Celtic and Rangers I’m not as sure Hearts are as good as they think they are.
A couple of defeats would see their confidence fall away and you have someone at Celtic who is a master at mind games.
Could be an interesting couple of months.

It was a matter of time before they sacked him or he left. The board obviously had enough of something as that’s quite a statement.
I don’t think O’Neill will be permanent. I’m hoping they aren’t interested in NL tbh.

Think for me it shows how bad things are with John Kennedy leaving.
He turned down the chance to go with Brendan to Leicester and Ange to Spurs to stay at the club.
I`m probably more in Brendan`s corner even more so after Dermot`s statement absolutely two footing him and launching him under the biggest bus possible.
`Now stop shouting at me and Michael Nicholson` essentially

There is a real lack of class in that statement to a manager who has been one of their most successful managers for every competition they enter. I have no idea what the board’s long term objective is here except to save themselves. If what they are saying is true why did they not have the balls to correct the narrative when it was happening or sack the manager for gross misconduct. The board are allowed to speak to the press also to correct these matters. It is interesting to whose harmony the board are referring to. I would suspect the harmony is in the favour of the investors. It will be an interesting tenure for the next transfer market opening, because if what they say is true then Celtic will be splashing the cash…..
Rodgers would be best placed to watch this unravel as I expect Rangers now to beat Celtic in their upcoming fixture then the meltdown starts.

Didn`t see that coming, but with the benefit of hindsight, it`s not surprising. Celtic have been very poor by their own standards. A remarkable statement by DD. Very different from what Rodgers has been implying.
If Martin O`Neil doesn`t want the job on a permanent basis, I think Celtic will try and bring Ange back. I can`t see them asking Lennon back for a third spell.....
Not your average Sunday League player.

I do, as it doesn’t solve any problems. He only alludes to bringing back harmony, but that is a goal rather than a deliverable. The main issue is that he doesn’t address what solutions he will make for the apparent disharmony. Namely the lack of quality signings. He alludes to the process but doesn’t claim anything went wrong.
Humility in the face of such vociferous opposition on the board may have been a better way to get the fans onside.
I don’t agree or care for the supporters, board or Rodgers. I just think the handling of the whole situation is poor from a business perspective.
From a neutral fans perspective, I couldn’t be happier. The arrogance of both ends of the old firm that if they are not sweeping all before them in Scottish football is something to behold, but never unexpected. So let’s get the popcorn out and watch on. There could be trouble on Sunday!

The unrest started in the stands, from their entitled fans, to whom not qualifying for the CL and losing a couple of games in the league is so alien that they spat the dummy out quickly. I`ve heard a fan on talksport this morning talking about the club being " on it`s knees" ??? Winning the league year after year isn`t good enough.

Disgraceful and classless statement by the biggest shareholder ( not the owner ). I think the lawyers will be poring over that right now.

many many many things wrong. Coconut for the person who can find the last time Desmond named himself on a released statement. How is someone in a non-executive position allowed to release such a statement? Why does the CEO need to email a non executive director to authorise an additional £200k spend on a transfer? If "every penny" is reinvested in the club why is there the guts of £100m in the bank and £23mil paid in corporation tax?
official Minutes from a fan meeting just 2 weeks ago catagorically denies any disharmony yet this suggests the polar opposite.
