Bord linked with stake in SheffUtd..and now SheffWed and Derby
Topic Originator: GJS93
Date:   Sun 4 May 11:33

from the Sun:

SHEFFIELD UNITED are turning to an Anglo-American AI talent spotting company to find new players — and that will mean the axe for top scouts

The Blades are now under American ownership, who plan to run all targets through the databanks and computerised systems of a super-spy company.

Insiders reveal Las Vegas-based, London-born James Bord is the middleman involved in finding players, hopefully for the Premier League next season.

Bord made a fortune as a poker player before shifting his focus to the computer world, where his companies and ideas have thrived in several fields.

Blades boss Chris Wilder signed several players for the promotion push and most were found by the old-fashioned way.

However, the Yank owners are convinced that the new methods are the Blades’ future.

And insiders reveal that a couple of January signings were also double-checked for approval by this outfit.

United also brought in a couple of young players from abroad in discoveries made by a San Francisco company called shortcircuit.science.

Both Bord and business partner Evan Sofer are also the new owners of Scottish club Dunfermline through a company they set up called Park Bench.

Links have already been forged between United and the Pars, with the two clubs pushing through a loan deal for Blades midfielder Owen Hampson.
If United make the Prem via the play-offs they will be relying heavily on finding the next signings by their new analytic allies.

In the meantime, their own scouts could be reduced or made redundant as a result.

Bord’s relationship with United could also grow.

He wants to have a stake in an English club and they are firmly in his sights.

He already has an interest in Spanish side Cordoba and an outfit in Bulgaria, too.

Too many eggs on the basket. His main focus should be us. Don`t know what happened with Hampson. He`s highly thought of but didn`t get a sniff near our first team.

Good luck to the guy, I don’t have any issue with it. He’s a serious business man trying to build a bigger business. As long as there’s investment and no major mismanagement, and he leaves us in a better position than he found us, I’m happy.

Not bothered by this at all, sounds like it`s a very small stake in order for United to get access to Short Circuit.

probably more good for us than not. Could be the start of a proper partnership that might mean regular friendlies against a decent side instead of the usual guff we end up playing. Could also give us first dibs on some of their loan players, which would be a big bonus.

Can’t see many downsides, really. Worth keeping an eye on how it develops.

c'mon the pars

I don`t think that matters, Al. They play in different unconnected leagues, so the fortunes of one club can`t affect the other.

I’m thinking yes. It wasn’t too long ago that Mike Ashley was involved in a club each side of the border

There will only be an issue if both teams qualify for europe, Nottingham forest have this issue as one of their owners is involved with olympiacos and they stepped down from their active role at Forest.

But let`s not get too far ahead of ourselves....

Bord now linked with Sheffield Wednesday.

"Sheffield Wednesday are currently the subject of three bids, with the hope that a new owner at Hillsborough can be found early in the new year.

Daily Mail Sport revealed that a US consortium made up of two previously opposing groups led by US billionaire John McEvoy and former Plymouth suitors the Storch family, has now merged, while ex-Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley and a group involving Dunfermline Athletic co-owner James Bord are also in the running.

With a price tag of around £30m, the Owls will not necessarily go to the highest bidder.

While the role of administrators Begbies Traynor is to secure the most money for creditors, they also need to be sure that a preferred candidate will pass the EFL’s Owners and Directors Test, and the two may not go hand in hand."

also Derby:
Multiple names have been reported to hold an interest in purchasing Derby County, including James Bord and Mike Ashley.

According to journalist Alan Nixon via Patreon, the duo are both keen on taking over the Rams.

Bord made his millions as a professional poker player, before founding Short Circuit Science, a firm which specialises in sports data analytics, alongside medical prescription technology and climate adoption analysis. He has worked with Sheffield United following their takeover by COH Sports, as part of their AI-driven recruitment model.

Think about the fact he’s never even attended a game at East End. He’s in London fairly regularly so I’d say pretty telling he’s not been here. We’re a purchase for his company to try and make a club work through analytics I think then well be moved on. No idea when.

Aye, Bord has 100% attended a couple of games.

Apparently questions were raised re the ability to fund the purchase and whether he would pass the English fit and proper test, which does raise a few red flags.

That would have been the Falkirk away game….I am unaware of him attending a game at EEP.

Isn`t James Bord the co-owner with Evan Sofer who has visited EEP, including on a match day? Bord also talks regularly to NL. I`m not sure what the issue is here.

Free bar before the game and gifting goals on the pitch, away fans must love east end!

I’m suspicious of any loans we get from the championship after yeboah and rivaldo last year. If we only had Jeffy for a years loan you would be querying whether it was a worthwhile move at this point.
