I wonder why last ditch, dangerous tackles like the one by Micky Van de Ven on Alexander Isak, which broke his leg, passes the scrutiny of VAR. The fact that Isak scored surely doesn`t negate the fact that the tackle was out of control and career threatening. As a former striker myself ( at amateur and junior level ) it seemed to be quite acceptable for an outpaced defender to take a free swipe after a scoring shot had been dispatched but surely now in the "best league in the world" VAR should have brought the referee`s attention to it. Seems like a case where retrospective punishment should apply to Van de Ven.

Theres some quirk in the interpretation of the rules that defenders trying to block a shot is a `free hit`... It`s been happening as long as I can remember. In other parts of the pitch it`s a `late tackle` and often a yellow, but in the penalty area it`s fine. Apparently.
I`m not up for retrospective punishment on van de ven though. The outcome of a dangerous tackle shouldn`t mean it gets treated differently, unless its particularly egregious, which van de vens wasn`t.

bit strange you spend £100mil+ on a guy and have him get up and walk off the pitch with a broken leg

What’s strange about it? 🤔
Defenders should be given retrospective bans if a reckless tackle puts a player out for months on end. Shouldn’t be given a free pass to do it the next week.

Reminded me of shocking challenge Pickford had on van dyk a few years ago nothing happened as the ball had gone out for a goal kick
If isak hadn’t scored would’ve been penalty and at least a yellow if not red card
