Why are we still in this situation with goalkeepers?
We’ve struggled for a goalie for 5 years now.
Peter Grant brought in Mehmet who quickly had to be dropped because he was dropping clangers. The Welsh goalie coach guy, Williams? Had to step in. Then he went and the young polish guy (Jacob something) came in.
Then we were down in the seaside league, Mehmet was under little pressure and not tested much, fine, but then in a fit of lunacy Mcpake hands Mehmet a contract extension.
Back up to championship and Mehmet returns to form, costing us goals all over the camp. More loan goalies (Dundee guy and Tobi) are brought in as sticking plasters because Mehmet is still struggling and the Germans won’t spend 50p. Is what it is.
But then finally last summer with a bit of investment floating about you’d assume we will finally solve the problem and sign a competent and proven goalie, but no, we loan in a very green goalie from rangers and pick up another young guy from down south to add in with Mehmet. All three play and never make the number one jersey their own. All cost us soft goals.
Why are we still here?! Why was this never fixed?! The goalie blunders have cost us 15 points this season by my count. We’d be so much better off had we just brought one good goalie in. It’s really got me p155ed off. Of all the areas of the team that needed a bit of money spent this would have been the one that would have improved us most in terms of points on the board. Can someone make sense of this for me please? I don’t believe for a minute Lennon was happy with the goalie situation.

There are 10 players in front of our keeper……blame the keeper or blame the manager for his line up?

Hoolie, we played quite well today, but we gave away 3 goals for nothing. So yes, I will absolutely blame the goalies for that. There are other games this season where awful goalkeeping has cost us a point or more. It needs fixed in the summer.

I agree to a certain point Hoolie , yes there are 10 in front of them and I have tried to give my view on this
Our keepers have had a good few howlers this season ,
And it has cost us many points , it`s not easy being a keeper one mistake it`s a goal ! up front you miss a chance it`s hardly talked about but missing a chance can change the outcome of a game as much as a boob by the Goalie , but the bigger picture is we need to stop giving teams a goal or two of a start , because we all know we aint coming back from this ,

The two goalkeeping errors cost us the game in reality. I`d park the refereeing performances and change the narrative. Its becoming a distraction. Bottom line is we need to focus on turning around the performances to winning games.

I don`t like criticising keepers too much but the recruitment in the summer was definitely poor. Munn was brought in to be our #1 and already he`s dropped down to league two to get a game.

I wasn`t there today so I don`t know how egregious the errors were but I thought the manager was pretty harsh on Terrell when saying he`s not been able to rely on our keepers.
He`s made a mistake but he`s a young keeper learning his trade. He`s been rewarded for good form with a new deal just last week and during this week we could have been 3 down before Morton scored, had it not been for him.
The keepers maybe aren`t the level we need right now but the manager should be looking at why these shots are coming in and why we aren`t creating and taking chances at the other end.

I think Lennon’s public statements today were out of order about our goalkeepers.
Even his old boss Martin O’Neil didn’t do that with Schmeichael after Thursday.
These things should be private and behind closed doors.
To highlight one goalkeeper nevermind two in one interiew is bad enough for public viewing and isn’t going to make them full of confidence going forward.

I’m not holding out too much hope for a loan goalie, we might get one in but if we do, it’s going to be 3rd or 4th choice goalie from an SPL team… won’t exactly be the next Marco Ruitenbeek.

I can’t argue with that.
There will be joiners/posties/plumbers playing in the junior leagues this weekend that wouldn’t have conceded any of the first three goals today.

Yeah Hudza, I’ve no idea what that was about, he’s not earned it in my opinion. He’d been dropped and then came back in for one game against Kelty in which he had little to do really, then got handed a two year contract extension. Perhaps he has been good in training but I don’t know. Within a week he’s cost us an absolute howler.
The summer transfer window can’t come quick enough.

Why? If he`s playing for East Fife, he`s leaking goals like a sieve.
We`ve just returned an U21 keeper, a decent lad, but miles off the pace so far.if we are to sign a keeper, it has to be someone with more experience.

Billy is a fine goalkeeper. Yes he had that howler yesterday but that’s what coaching is all about to get rid of these things.
One of our favourite goalies Ian Westwater wouldn’t have lasted 3 months if he was judged by today’s standards.
Sometimes standing by a player with obvious potential is worth far more than reactionary measures.

Not a fan of billy at all. He’s let other soft goals in as well, not as bad as yesterday’s but he’s not the standard we need to compete at the top of this division.

You have to have a good spine in the team meaning 2CB/2CM and 2 Strikers.. Build the rest round that core with solid wing backs/ wingers on either side.
A decent GK doesn’t need to do much apart from the basics if he has players in front of him.

I was at Ayr when he air swiped a clearance due to a bump on the pitch and the ball went in.
I won’t mention the Clyde game lol
But you know what?
Pars fans forgave the occasional howler because he saved us so many times.

I still like Billy Terrell - Yes he made a bad decision to come out which led to the first goal. However, as India has said, he is young and he will learn from that. The problem with keepers is everyone remembers a mistake.
He has made a number of good saves and his coming out as sweeper keeper to clear the danger has been good at many other times. While his kicking doesn`t have the accuracy that Tobi had, he still gets us forward quickly. I like the way he is always looking to release the ball quickly to get us going and is not frightened to come out for the ball.

I also thought Lennon`s criticism of the keepers was a bit too severe. Terrell made a poor mistake for the 1st goal, but Kearney could have just dealt with the ball himself. Terrell kept the score down against Morton and gave us a chance to get a point. Mehmet made a poor mistake for the 3rd no doubt about it. The second goal was just badly defended by the whole team, and came from Gilmour giving away a needless free-kick - exactly what you need to avoid against a strong, physical side like Arbroath.
I like Terrell, happy he has signed on for a another season. Mehmet`s provided some decent and some less decent service for us, the end of his contract is the time to move on. Certainly a new keeper will be needed next season, ideally with some first team experience.

Lennon was I would assume completely frustrated with the performance of both our goalkeepers which led to him criticising them in the media.
I have been to every game this season and no goalie playing for the opposition has handed us goals like the two on Saturday and the one mehmet let in against airdrie. But Lennon should have addressed the goalie issue by signing one at the start of the window so he has to take some responsibility.

No one better than Mehmet???? I would think there might have been a few that could deal with the one against Airdrie and the one on Saturday. In addition the second on Saturday was all day long a goalie taking charge and being ready to take a couple of steps forward to claim the ball instead of hugging his line.
In anticipation of someone saying who could we get that’s what managers, scouts etc are paid to do.

Terrell came for the ball on Saturday but Kearney was awful powder puff. You defend first and get clattered if required in that situation don`t back out. You know your keeper likes to come out and sweep you have to be expecting him coming and make a judgement to deal with it at times.

Mehmet should never have been given a contract extension at the time - our own fault, knew he was littered with errors.
Our Goalkeeping coach needs to be put under a lot of scrutiny as well - what is he actually doing with these guys.

Yeah and it was an honest mistake too.
Once his brain says “commit” there is no way back.
The one thing that struck me about Neil Lennon publicly shaming both of them is that the boss of Celtic, his “gaffer’ did the opposite after the Stuttgart defeat.
He focused on the positives.
I get Neil is reactionary in his character but he needs to be humble after the fact too and maybe publicly apologise.
