 ParsTV Streaming Issue

Apologies everyone, we thought that we had nailed the problem with the blacking out by replacing the capture card... But to no avail! I think the recent update to Vmix has broken something in the streaming software so I will continue with some troubleshooting this week.

Saturdays match at home we will move back to using the desktop PC rather than the laptop which has an older version of Vmix so we can make sure there is no interruption this coming weekend. I hope to have this sorted for the next away match, thanks for bearing with us!

Frankly, the excuses week after week are getting tiresome. Get it sorted!

No excuses, trying to be transparent about the issue and stating a fix period. I`m sorry this isn`t good enough for you but please bear in mind we are volunteers working with limited resources and headcount.

Cheers, best to keep transparent - if it helps, the sound was muddy- commentary was decent, but the crowd noise just sounded muddy/non existent.

Apart from that, it just dropped a couple of times, that`s pretty rare (from Malta)

Thanks for that Neil, we are aware of the background audio issue... We actually think there is an issue with the new camera but we are knackered by the fact that if we send it in for repair we potentially have no stream at all, it`s a fine balancing act at the moment. Might have to look at something alternative for background audio in the meantime.

Cheers for the feedback, that`s really helpful!

I am all for transparency, but we have had transparency for years. This is not a new phenomenon. What I find irritating is that fresh problems keep cropping up. It is hard enough to watch the Pars these days without the uncertainty of screen freezes, sound problems, or blackouts.

I appreciate the effort you all make to broadcast from windy gantries at Cappielow, or Arbroath, or Dingwall on a cold, wintry evening, but these days we pay quite a chunk of money for the streaming service and with that should come an expectation of an uninterrupted stream.

New PC
New Laptop
New Camera
New Microphones (twice)
New Gigabit internet
New software licence for broadcasting

Nothing is infallible, we have an issue with a brand new camera that we are dealing with. We thought we had an issue with our capture card... I bought a new one out of my own pocket, and it`s not that. We will continue to investigate this issue and always do our best to get a flawless stream out, we are as disappointed as you when we have little glitches like this but we deal with it quickly and make sure you get as good a stream as we can get out.

Get a proper service team in to get the tech issues sorted, and have a service as good as the Rovers and Falkirk .

Been saying it for ages, we need to get the whole set up audited by an outside consultant and find out what we need. It’s ok trotting the volunteer bit out all the time, no one is blaming the volunteers, but the club make good money from this and should invest in it so that customers get what they pay for.

And that’s the problem dd. The lack of investment.

Is it a lack of investment?

Not sure what the subscription numbers are and costs but surely that plays a massive part within the service.

C'mon Ye Pars!

I`ve been tuning into Pars TV for years and watched some matches in very odd circumstances and isolated locations around the world, for which I`m eternally grateful.

Back in the day I was just delighted to have any coverage at all. I was genuinely thrilled when elements were added to the coverage like having the score on screen and getting instant replays. It felt somewhat miraculous.

I won`t ever criticise team members who are volunteering. It must be really demoralising when you`re putting in hours and expertise (and money) and getting slagged off at the same time.

However, I think we`ve reached the point where there`s a bit of a mismatch in expectations. The annual fee for Pars TV is not insignificant. I`ve never bothered to add up how much I`ve paid since the service started, but it`s probably a decent chunk by now.

I have no idea how much of the money goes to the club or to other clubs or the SPFL or to running costs. I don`t think the team should be providing the service without getting paid though. I also think that there are elements of a professional service that should be expected, given the experience that the team have over many years.

I don`t think it`s unreasonable for hardware and software to be fully tested in advance. I don`t think it`s unreasonable for back up hardware to be available in case things break. I also don`t think it`s unreasonable to be able to verify the availability of an away feed in the days leading up to a fixture.

Maybe the service needs to cost more? Maybe the club needs to put money into it or take less money out of it? Maybe there needs to be a wider group of willing volunteers?

I don`t have the answers, but perhaps some kind of review of the service during the close season would make sense to allow for a "glitch free" Pars TV from next season onwards?

What really pees me off is the ire shown to the ParsTV crew who are doing their best with the hardware available to them and as you can see sometimes using their own money!

I don’t care how many times the term volunteers is “trotted out” ~ you’re directing your ire at the WRONG PEOPLE.

We have a billionaire at the helm and a member of ParsTV has to buy a piece of hardware himself. Think about it.

And btw “glitch-free” doesn’t exist. Even professionals make mistakes with streaming and live coverage.

Surely a question to be aimed at David Cook for his next update? Will parstv get some real help?

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone having a go at the volunteers, ever. Sure there’s frustration at the relatability issues and the kit issues, but not the volunteers.

How does James Bord stream the matches in Las Vegas, if not via Pars TV? He must be aware of the issues surely?

I don’t think anyone is having a go at the volunteers here. I think most folk appreciate the time and effort they put in week after week. Without them, a lot of fans wouldn’t see anything at all. That’s not really up for debate.
But at the same time, when supporters are paying what we’re paying per game, it’s completely fair to expect a certain standard. If you’re paying for a service and you feel like you’re getting the same issues season after season with buffering, poor audio, missed goals or whatever it may be then people are well within their rights to raise it. That’s not an attack on individuals, it’s feedback on the product.

The frustration isn’t about commitment, it’s about consistency and quality. Pars TV has been running for a good few years now and, from the outside looking in, the overall standard doesn’t seem to have moved on much. You’d expect that over time there would be upgrades, investment, or at least noticeable improvement. While I understand there is upgrads, there doesn`t seem to be much improvement to the product.

I’d imagine Pars TV are in dialogue with the club. If so, then supporter complaints shouldn’t be brushed off as they’re actually useful. They give weight to the argument that things could and should be improved. An independent company coming in to assess the setup wouldn’t be some dig at the volunteers. If anything, it would support them. It would highlight what equipment or infrastructure needs upgraded and take the pressure off the same people firefighting the same issues.

When you look at other clubs in the league Rovers, Falkirk, Arbroath to name a few, they seem to manage a more reliable and enjoyable product more than ours.

Nobody is expecting Sky Sports production levels, but when other teams at the same level can provide a stable, decent quality stream, it’s fair to ask why we’re still struggling with the same recurring problems.Maybe there are technical limitations at certain grounds. Maybe it’s budget. Maybe it’s staffing. Most of us don’t know the ins and outs of broadcasting agreements or SPFL rules or technology limitations. But that’s kind of the point that fans don’t need to know the internal mechanics. They just see what they’re paying for and judge it on that basis.

Could a league wide agreement where home teams provide the stream be feesable? I’ve no idea how workable that is, but it’s the sort of solution that’s at least worth discussing. If one setup works better at a ground than another, why not standardise it?
At the end of the day, everyone wants the same thing right? a reliable, watchable stream that feels worth the money. The volunteers deserve credit and I don`t think anyone chalkenges that. Constructive criticism isn’t disrespect to volunteers it’s part of trying to make ParsTV better.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Not sure Bord is a billionaire, Buffy! But right with your comments. The team are going above and beyond.

However, I do take the point that regulars are making that the service should be better. That`s where the board needs to look at reinvesting those subs into the service. As has been suggested, look at who is producing a good, consistent feed and look into their approach.
