Champions league:-
Spurs 4-7
Man City 1-5
Newcastle 3-8
Chelsea 2-8
In my mind that’s a lot of hammerings for the top tier of English football.

Arsenal and Liverpool still in there but maybe not favourites to progress to the last 4.

Liverpool on the form they produced tonight could go all the way as could Arsenal.

They obviously pull a lot of the top players however I don’t think they are as far in front of everyone else as they think they are.
I would suggest that because more clubs there have the money to rival Bayern Munich, Real Madrid etc they will attract a certain level of talent however there is only so many players good enough for Real Madrid etc so a lot of the English clubs are over paying players.
I just don’t think Aston Villa are that much better than say Atalanta

Sky sports suggesting English teams are tired, as the other teams play in weaker leagues and can afford to rest their top players, amonst this drivel was Burnley bottom of the Prem are better than more than half the other leagues , and some in Portugese top league are equivelent to mid championship teams , English media deluded.

Do "they" think they are, or is it the media constantly talking them up?
Not your average Sunday League player.

When I started the thread it was to look at the fact they had 6 teams in the champions league. That’s approximately 1/3 (30% actually) of their league, and how well they were/are performing. In my opinion losing close games is acceptable, but these are not close results, premier league team losing 7/8 goals over two games?

The tired excuse does my head in. They have the biggest depth of squads and you can sub half your team each match. They should have the least tired. Look at Liverpool with 2 top class left backs yet 1 never gets a game based on the fact he isnt the one Slot signed. Easy to rotate if they bothered. Also, with the exception of the Bundesliga, its not a huge difference.
Basically, top European teams have sussed out Pep ball - intense, quick and dribble past someone and it falls apart.

Fair to say that having Spurs and Newcastle in the "Champions League" to begin with is a little silly, even if that`s a well-worn line of argument.
As the point above says, having 30% of your league in it isn`t healthy for either competition. It is effectively a European super league in all but name.
