Very passive. When Gilmour doesn`t play we really struggle to keep possession.

Never seen Ferguson play a decent game.
Him, McLean and dykes have been standouts so far for the wrong reasons.

What did Clarke learn tonight about his squad ?
That we should all be very grateful for the Nations League as we are absolutely dreadful in friendlies

What did Clarke learn tonight about his squad ?
Heehaw based on that game. Really poor tonight. Could tell it was a friendly in the run up to the of the season.

What were folk expecting in a friendly just 3 months before the tournament against a much higher-ranked team? He used 17 players and gave game time to some who needed it like Patterson, Conway, Hirst, Curtis, Ralston. Japan actually replaced all ten outfieild players in the second half.
They probably benefit as much from the time spent together in the training camp as they do from the matches.

I was there tonight and thought it was a really good game where Japan probably just edged it with their extra quality.

Watched on TV, we were awful, no drive always backwards, Patterson was poor, but always complaining about others no one to pass to.
I know it`s a friendly, but keep the team moving forward and motivated.
Not looking forward to world cup now

Not long back, that was pretty brutal. I genuinely don’t know where we are as a squad at the moment, yes we qualified for the World Cup, but despite results being excellent, performances have been generally poor.

Clarke not impressed by the booing at the end of the game, maybe try fringe players , different formation , same old .

Why did Scott Bain not start today, Steve Clarke is going to struggle to get the vital opening game win with this team selection. A few other positions should have had fresh faces in them from the start. We got worn down by a team that stuck to the script, the look on the Japan managers face at the end showed it all for what it was.

Some of the criticism is rather strange. He did play fringe players like Conway (on the left rather than through the middle), Patterson, Ralston, Curtis, Hirst. Gunn has hardly played a first-team game all season so probably benefited from the game time.
I doubt the starting XI will also start the tournament. It was an opportunity to try things. The Japanese manager changed all ten outfield players in the second half.

Massive overreaction to a glorified bounce game. God knows why folk pay top dollar for friendlies. Madness

Japan are a good side, who have beaten Brazil in the last few years and just thrashed China 7-0. They have a lot of quality.
I`m not that fussed about the result, but am a bit apprehensive about how weak we are in certain areas (GK, RB, CB in particular).
Different kind of test coming up against Ivory Coast who will be much stronger physically than Japan.

Da_no_1 I think the main 2 reasons is you’ll have your people that it will be there first time seeing Scotland after a string of sold out games and then on the other side you have all the Scotland supporters club members that need to go to the game to get the loyalty points up to go to away games and euros/World cups

Spot on, and to do that, you’re paying a decent sum of money to do so.

Had a ticket but decided to go to Liverpool, for the BVB v Liverpool legends game. Fantastic weekend in Liverpool, what a brilliant place. Think I made the right choice, looking at the comments.

Results from these matches mean nothing. Performance from these matches mean nothing. These matches are just for getting the squad ready for the World Cup.
I don’t know what folk are expecting? A full blooded die for a 50/50 challenge type of thing or would they prefer they do what they need to do to prepare for the summer?

It`ll be interesting to see how Japan cope in their friendly with England. I think their defence may be vulnerable if subjected to more pressure than we were able to apply. On the other hand their quick, skilful forward players will create problems for any team.
